TRAUM AM BACHE.
Marchen vom Mummelsee im Schwarzwalde,
Im Mummelsee, im dunkeln see
Da bliih'n der Lilien viele,
Sie wiegen sich, sie biegen sich,
Dem losen Wind zum Spiele;
Als wie zu einem Krauze;
Uud schweben leis umher im Kreis,
Gesichter weiss, Gevrander weiss,
Bis ihie bleichen Wangen
Mit zarter Rb'the prangen.
Vom langeu Bart umwallt,
Und eine Donnerstimme schallt,
Dass im Gebirg' es Aviederhallt:
"Zuriick in eure WogenIhr Lilien ungezogen!"
Da stockt der Tanz_ die Madchen schrein
Und werden immer bias; er:
'"Der Vater ruft! puh! Morgenluft!
Zuriick in das Gewasser!
Die Nebel steigen aus dem Thai
Es dammert schon der Morgenstralil
Und Lilien schwanken wieder
Im Wasser auf und nieder.

THE LAMENT.
MOTTO. If thou deeni'st nie false of heart,
Dooiu'd as thus - as thus to part
Reckless what may be my fate,
The world to me is desolate;
Created things henceforth will be,
A mirror'd wilderness to me.
What has passed to me will seem
The false fond yision of a dream;
And those sweet Elysian hours,
Whose perfume was the breath of flowers,
Though by thee remembered not,
Ne'er can be by me forgot.
