description

Five million viewers tuned in to The Style Network for Giuliana DePandi and Bill Rancic’s fairy tale wedding in Italy, as the passions, tears, and champagne flowed. But what happened once the honeymoon was over? After all, she’s been stationed in Los Angeles as one of E! Entertainment’s most popular personalities, and he’s kept his home in Chicago, where this handsome winner of The Apprentice has been busy running an empire of his own. How, we’ve wondered, is this marriage really working out? With all the funny, frank, and characteristically down-to-earth personality that fans of their hit reality show, Giuliana & Bill, have come to adore, this glamorous couple takes you behind the scenes of their real-life marriage. Like all newlyweds, they’ve faced the big issues that wedlock manages to invite, including money (to merge or not?), household chores (she’s disorganized, he’s a neat freak), arguments (without staying mad), and trying to have a baby (it’s not as easy as they thought!). Sharing their newfound and sometimes hard-won insights, they offer suggestions on such topics as communication, giving and receiving support, trust and jealousy, quality time, friends and in-laws, fighting fair, and sex and romance.A must-read for newly married couples, or those about to take the plunge, or anyone who wants to know the secrets of everlasting love, I Do, Now What? is an upbeat real-world resource for the most ambitious journey of a couple’s life: marriage!

starting as far back as our first date The result is a bond builton a foundation of shared values that allow our marriage tothrive

Call us old- fashioned but wersquove learned that tried- and- true basics similar to what our grandparents looked to forguidance are what work in todayrsquos world too For instancewersquore kind to each other have fun and laugh a lot Wersquovelearned how to diffuse tension before fights become explosiveand we lean on friends family and God for support when weneed to call in backup We also know how to forgive and for-get We do our best to trust each other try not to tell whitelies and deal with money and housework issues in a way thatfeels fair We have delicious sex as often as we can We try newand different things to keep our relationship fresh and wehonor our commitment every single day We talk (but not toomuch) about what matters in between and wersquove come to dis-cover that marriage isnrsquot about ldquoworkrdquo as the saying goes butldquoeffortrdquo As a result our marriage is healthier today than whenwe first said ldquoI dordquo

When we first met we had no idea we were in for such a whirl-wind romance As would soon become a running theme in ourrelationship this initial encounter was full of ridiculousness

Giuliana I first fell hard for Bill when he won The Apprenticethough we didnrsquot officially meet until two years later when Irsquodoverheard in the E News newsroom that we were shooting aninterview with him He was doing charity work in Santa Mon-ica for the Boys and Girls Club which offers positive pro-grams and services to underprivileged kids and we wanted tocover the details to support the cause My assignment man-ager Maureen was about to give the story away to a junior re-porter but I immediately elbowed my way to the front of theline I knew from watching Bill on TV that he was a catch andI wanted a shot at this hottie with a body

ldquoWhoa whoa whoa whoa whoardquo I said to MaureenldquoWhatrsquos this about a shoot with Bill Rancicrdquo Maureen gaveme all the details and said that she didnrsquot ask me to cover theevent because I was busy anchoring at the time and the inter-view was an afterhours gig forty minutes from the studioldquoWell I do want to get involved in more charity workrdquo I toldher She threw me a knowing smirk (I later found out that shealso had a crush on Bill) and then gave me the assignment Iran to the bathroom to touch up my makeup

Just before leaving for the interview I did some quick in-vestigative research on Bill by Googling three words ldquoBillRancic girlfriendrdquo You better believe I did but not only forthe reason you think Sure I wanted to know if Bill was avail-able for my own single girl purposes but if yoursquove ever seenmy interviews I love to get personal with my subjects andthe more intimate the questions the more memorable theQampA

As I clicked the ldquoSearchrdquo button I secretly hoped that noth-ing would pop up about Billrsquos love life but something did A fewgossip blogs reported that hersquod been dating a producer in NewYork City for the past few months This seriously bummed meout since my motivation for doing the interview wasnrsquot entirelyprofessional But with an hour before the shoot it was too lateto squirm out of the assignment so when I finally sat downwith Bill I remember copping an attitude with my tone andbody language My arms were crossed and my voice soundedindifferent even though all I could think was ldquoDamn this guyis gorgeousrdquo After a series of questions about boys girls andclubs I prepared to dash the hopes of single women like meDonald Trump had just had a son and seemed very settled andcontent with his beautiful wife Melania so it seemed like theperfect segue to get my viewers the scoop on Bill and that chickin NYC

ldquoSo are you going to settle down soon with your girl-friendrdquo I asked him while simultaneously planning how to

I nearly swallowed my Trident We both laughed nerv-ously since we werenrsquot sure what would come next I couldnrsquottell whether Bill wanted to woo our TV audience or me but it really didnrsquot matter We ended up hanging out for an houronce the cameras were off and we just couldnrsquot stop talkingWe covered everything that matteredmdash our families ourhometowns our exercise habits you name it And at the endof the conversation I thought OK that was fun But I guessthis isnrsquot going anywhere since hersquos not asking me out I toldBill I needed to leave but as I walked to my car I heard himcall my name ldquoGiulianardquo he yelled and I thought Ah- haHere it comes Hersquos going to ask me to grab a beer But when Iturned around he hit me with an unusual request ldquoWant togo for a run sometimerdquo

Now I donrsquot know how they do it in the Midwest butwhen the women of Los Angeles go out with a handsomestranger for the first time we prefer dim lighting alcoholhigh heels and plenty of makeup Why would I ever want tomeet Bill at ten am wearing unflattering spandex a cleanface and my hair in a ponytail

ldquoOr we could grab drinks or dinnerrdquo I suggestedldquoThat would be great toordquo Bill said So we exchanged num-bers went out the next week and by the third date we beganplanning our future together ldquoSo what are you doing in twomonthsrdquo wersquod ask each other during marathon phone callslate at night ldquoI have a trip to New Zealandrdquo Bill would sayldquoMaybe if wersquore still together yoursquoll comerdquo And then Irsquod say

ldquoOK Well I have a premiere in New York in three months somaybe if wersquore still together yoursquoll come with me to thatrdquo

For me it was love at first interviewmdash though I can say fora fact that I fell for Bill while watching him every week on TheApprentice Bill never tuned- in to E News because he doesnrsquotcare who Gerard Butler is banging from week to week but Iliked having the advantage I was already impressed with Billrsquoscharacter from the way he won Trumprsquos competition with ut-most class Actually a lot of what I needed to know about myfuture husband I learned from watching The Apprentice Forinstance Bill didnrsquot backstab and he was intelligent funnyand business- savvy on that show He also looked hot in a two- piece suit Billrsquos too sensible to say that he fell in love with meat first sight but hersquoll be the first to admit that what turned hishead was that I made him laugh and seemed very authenticlike him Those were important qualities to Bill

From that point on our long- distance relationship managedto move at breakneck speedmdash everywhere we should say butin the bedroom Since we lived in two different cities (Bill inChicago and Giuliana in LA) we were careful to build inti-macy and anticipation slowly since establishing a relationshipbased on shared values was our biggest priority even backthen We didnrsquot even kiss until our third date and we didnrsquottake things further if you know what we mean until severalmonths later We were intent on pacing our relationship andwere respectful of each otherrsquos timelines and hesitations Weonly took steps forward when it felt right and maybe a littleserendipitous including the first time we said ldquoI love yourdquo

Eight months after we met I repeated those same threewords to her when I asked her to marry me while flying overChicago in a private helicopter and then nine months laterwhen we were joined as husband and wife in Capri ninemonths later Long- distance dating and marriage have cer-tainly had its challenges but I wouldnrsquot trade the course ofour relationship for the world

Cut to today and we feel more deeply in love than when wefirst met mostly because our passion is joined by a sense a se-curity and calm that reminds us that ldquohomerdquo is where we areA big part of our dynamic too is our shared desire to lead aldquonormalrdquo life even if our long- distance and public relation-ship seems unconventional When you live among crazy enter-tainment types the way we do we count our blessings everyday that we found each other Itrsquos rare to meet and thenmarry someone who shares our traditional values and down- to- earth priorities in Hollywood Bad plane food and expen-sive phone bills are the price wersquore happy to pay to have eachother

As Bill likes to say ldquoMarriage is the one choice that willimpact every decision yoursquoll make for the rest of your liferdquoAnd so far hersquos been right each day reminds us that we madethe right choice because knowing each other makes us better

What does all this mean to you In the following pages yoursquollread about the experiences wersquove had and the lessons wersquovelearned that influence and make up the amazing marriage wehave today Wersquove broken this book down by some of the big-ger themes that have always run throughout our relationshipmdash such as money honesty commitment communication and so onmdash so you can zero- in on the ideas yoursquore most interested inWe even talk about food and gift- giving here since they play afun role in creating memories but can also cause couplesstress And just so we donrsquot sound like wersquore talking entirelyout our tush wersquove grounded some of our thoughts in re-search about happy unions We hope the end result paints aclear amusing and helpful picture of what our loving mar-riage looks like

As Bill likes to say ldquoMarriage is the one choice that willimpact every decision yoursquoll make for the rest of your liferdquoAnd so far hersquos been right each day reminds us that we madethe right choice because knowing each other makes us better

starting as far back as our first date The result is a bond builton a foundation of shared values that allow our marriage tothrive
