Yuva, an NGO association from Panaji organised a cleaning drive at the Fonte Phoenix (Mala Spring), Panaji, on the

occasion of World Heritage Day which was also a part of the on-going Swacch Bharat–Nitoll Goem Programme.

Over 25 members of Yuva, along with personnel of the fire services and labourers carried out the clean-ing of the ancient spring which is an architectural tourist attraction with its underground tunnels. For many years this spring had not been attended to and garbage had piled up making it an eye-sore and a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects, spreading ill-

nesses. Even the source of the fresh water spring was on the verge of diminishing due to silting.

The members of the drive cleared the source area as well as the path-way for water to flow to the outlet. MLA of Panaji, Sidharth Kuncalien-kar was present at the cleanup pro-gramme and inspected the spring along with advisors of Yuva, Mihir Agshikar and Ashok Patil.
