LEDs, or light emitting diodes, provide flexible and very energy efficient lighting. Made of semi-conductors, LEDs convert almost all energy into light unlike previous technologies that lose energy via heat. This efficiency comes with a long lifetime and so reduced maintenance costs. LEDs can also be controlled easily and so, for example, can be dimmed well.

Technological advances mean that today’s LEDs give good quality light and good colour rendering.
