Gathering Everybody Hurts R.E.M

When your day is long and the night is yours alone; When you're sure you've had enough of this life, hang on;

Don't let yourself go 'cause everybody cries; And everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong; Now it's time to sing along; When your day is night alone Hold on; If you feel like letting go Hold on;

If you think you've had too much of life, hang on

Everybody hurts; Take comfort in your friends; Everybody hurts; Don't throw your hand; If you feel like you're alone No, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life; The days and nights are long When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes; Everybody cries; So hold on, hold on; Everybody hurts

The Prophet Complains and The Lord Responds Habakkuk ~ Easy to Read Version

LORD, I continue to ask for help. When will you listen to me? I cried to you about the violence, but you did nothing! 3 People are stealing things and hurting others. They are arguing and fighting. Why do you make me look at these terrible things? I will stand

like a guard and watch. I will wait to see what the LORD will say to me. I will wait and learn how God answers my questions.

The LORD answered me, “Write down what I show you. Write it clearly on a sign so that the message will be easy to read. This message is about a special time in the future.

This message is about the end, and it will come true. Just be patient and wait for it. That time will come; it will not be late. This message cannot help those who refuse to

listen to it, but those who are good will live because they believe it.

*Hymn How Can I Keep From Singing Robert Lowery

~ The refrain is on the next page ~

Epistle Lesson II Timothy 4:1-5 Common English Bible

4 I’m giving you this commission in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is coming to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearance and his kingdom. 2 Preach the word. Be ready to do it whether it is convenient or inconvenient. Correct, confront, and encourage with patience and instruction. 3 There will come a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. They will collect teachers who say what they want to hear because they are self-centered. 4 They will turn their back on the truth and turn to myths. 5 But you must keep control of yourself in all circumstances. Endure suffering, do the work of a preacher of the good news, and carry out your service fully.

Gospel Lesson Luke 18:1-8 Common English Bible

18 Jesus was telling them a parable about their need to pray continuously and not to be discouraged. 2 He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people. 3 In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him, asking, ‘Give me justice in this case against my adversary.’ 4 For a while he refused but finally said to himself, I don’t fear God or respect people, 5 but I will give this widow justice because she keeps bothering me. Otherwise, there will be no end to her coming here and embarrassing me.” 6 The Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 Won’t God provide justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he be slow to help them? 8 I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Human One comes, will he find faithfulness on earth?”

L: The Word of God for the people of God P: Thanks be to God!

Response Christ Has No Body Now But Yours Steve Warner based on the words of Teresa of Avila

Refrain: Christ has no body now but yours; No hands, but yours; Here on this earth yours is the work, To serve with the joy of compassion

No hands but yours to heal the wounded world; No hands but yours to soothe all its suffering, No touch but yours to bind the broken; Hope of the people of God.

No eyes but yours to see as Christ would see; To find the lost, To gaze with compassion; No eyes but yours to glimpse the holy joy of the city of God.

No feet but yours to journey with the poor to walk this world with mercy and justice. Yours are the steps to build a lasting peace for the children of God.

Through every gift, give back to those in need; As Christ has blessed so now be his blessing;

With every gift a benediction be to the people of God.

The Giving, Presentation and *Blessing of our Gifts

L: We give thanks for all that God has given us. P: May God bless all that we offer: our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service.

*Passing of the Peace L: The Lord be with you! P: And also with you! Greet one another with signs of peace.

*Song of Fellowship God Is Still Speaking Marty Haugen

Prayers of the People ~ Silent Prayer ~ Sharing Requests ~ Pastoral Prayer ~ Lord’s Prayer

Response Take, O Take Me As I Am John Bell

Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the

Kingdom, And the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
