One of the most important measures to prevent the spread of infection in dental care is to adhere to basic hygiene routines. These should be practiced by all dental personnel during examinations and treatments.

Wear a white protective coat over work clothes when leaving clinical work

Your work clothes

• Work clothes are only to be worn in the workplace• Work clothes should be changed daily or more frequently if required• A headscarf/surgical cap is provided by the clinic and changed daily• You must wear short-sleeves

Remember!Artificial nails may not be used.

Hand hygiene• Your hands and forearms should be free of rings, bracelets, watches, jewellery, plasters, bandages, dressings and joint supports• The nails should be short and clean and free of any synthetic materials such as fake nails and nail polish• Hands and forearms should be disinfected before and after patient-related work• Hair should be tied back, and beards should be trimmed and tidy

Wear the right protective equipment according to the picture

Eye protection visor Face mask Apron Protective gloves

Please note! Never wear your face mask under your mouth or chin.

Hand hygiene Hands should be washed with liquid soap and water if they feel or are visibly dirty

• Dispense 2-4mls of the provided hand disinfectant• Massage the agent into your hands, wrists and lower forearms,

do not forget your finger and thumb tips• Allow to air dry

Areas to disinfectIn case of splashes or spills, surfaces should be immediately wiped with alcohol-based disinfectants that have an effect on both bacteria and viruses

If you are responsible for the spill then you are responsible for disinfecting the area

Always use gloves to protect hands againstcoarse soiling and chemical agents

Remember! Take care of your hands. Moisturise them in the morning and evening with hand creme.

Staff should hang protective robes on hooks in the hall, students should place them in the student booths
