PVH Piston Pumps

High flow, high performance pumps for industrial and mobile applications

Introduction:

PVH high flow, high performance pumps are a family of variable displacement, inline piston units that incorporate

the proven design, quality manufacturing techniques and operating features of other Vickers piston pumps, but in a

smaller, lighter package.

The PVH series has been specially designed to meet the 250 bar (3625 psi) continuous duty performance

requirements of new generation equipment designs. These are efficient, reliable pumps, with a selection of optional

controls for maximum operational flexibility. Designed specifically for strenuous application, they provide the

productivity gains and controllability improvements desired in earthmoving, construction, machine tool, plastics,

and all other energy-conscious markets. As with all Vickers products, these pumps have been fully laboratory

tested and field proven.

PVH Series Benefit:

Versatile design includes single pumps, thru-drive arrangements, and a variety of drive shaft and control options

that will adapt to any application and provide the most cost effective installation.

Proven components designed into a heavy duty, compact housing to provide 250 bar (3625 psi) continuous

operating performance, and 280 bar (4050 psi) operating performance in a load sensing system. This design assures

long life at the higher performance levels required of today’s power-dense machinery.

Compact and lightweight designed to reduce the application weight, and provide better access for installation and

servicing. Service kits developed for the most critical rotating and control components to simplify and assure

successful pump servicing. Quiet designs available for noise-sensitive industrial applications, reducing sound levels

further to provide a more acceptable environment. Design for maximum efficiency in any type of application. A

variety of compensators provide the most effective system control, and the 95%-plus volumetric efficiency means

more flow, and more input energy, is directed to the work and not into heat and waste. Heavy duty bearings and

shafts result in minimum internal deflections and wear, providing for longer life and maximum uptime.

Vickers PVH pumps are designed to provide the highest levels of system performance with noise levels within

OSHA requirements. The standard models exhibit low sound levels across a wide range of operating speeds and

pressures to accommodate the conditions necessary for high performance mobile vehicles. In addition, the quieter

QI models provide even lower sound levels at typical in-plant conditions.

Sound is generated by a variety of factors associated with the system, machine, and environment.

EATON Vickers PVQ Piston Pump

PVQ piston pumps are in-line, variable displacement units and are available in nine sizes. Displacement is variedby

means of pressure and/or flow compensator controls. An impressive assortment of control options offers maximum

operating flexibility. PVQs operate at quietness levels that meet today’s demanding industrial conditions. The

sound level of each unit approaches or is below that of the electric motor driving it. Sound is reduced by a patented

timing arrangement that also produces low pressure “pulses” in the outlet flow. This leads to reduced tendencies for

noise in systems using PVQs. The PVQ series is capable of operating with many types of hydraulic fluid. Water-

content and phosphate ester fluids can be accommodated, in addition to the typical petroleum based and synthetic

fluids.

Many PVQ pumps are available in a thru-drive configuration to accommodate a multitude of application and

installation requirements. Thru-drive models can be coupled to various types and sizes of fixed and variable

displacement pumps, resulting in a compact and versatile package. Such a package offers lower installed cost by

reducing the installation size and by requiring only one mounting pad on the prime mover. Quiet PVQs have

excellent operating characteristics, and the pumps many control and mounting options allow choosing the optimum

model for any application. Additionally, PVQs possess the same durability and long life characteristics expected of

the best industrial products in today’s marketplace.

Vickers MFB and MVB Hydraulic Piston motor

Model: MFB5UY21, MFB10UY31, MFB20UY10, MFB29UY10, MFB45UY10

These motors are of axial piston, fixed or variable displacement, inline design. The units can be operated in either

direction of rotation. Flow direction is as indicated. MFB motors are variable horsepower – horsepower being

approximately proportional to rpm with a given constant operating pressure. Service may be continuous,

intermittent, continuous reversing, or stalled without damage when properly protected by a relief valve. Output

speeds are dependent on input flow. Speed ranges of at least 36:1 are possible at the maximum torque rating by

varying flow to the motor. Vickers fixed displacement inline piston motors offer a choice of five torque ratings,

speed from 100 to 3600 r/min and pressures to 210 bar (3000 psi). Reversible shaft rotation and flange or foot

mountings are available.

High Efficiency

Overall operating efficiency can be as high as 93% and volumetric efficiency as high as 97%, depending on motor

size, pressure, speed, fluid viscosity, and temperature. High speeds, pressures and efficiencies give Vickers inline

piston motors power density. The result is high performance in a compact package that requires minimum

installation space. Rotation can be reversed simply by reversing the direction of flow through the motor ports.

Minimum speed can vary between 50 and 100 r/min, depend upon motor size and characteristics of the drive load.

Vickers piston motors are designed to meet the specifications shown in the “Ratings” section of this catalog. To

ensure maximum performance in conjunction with your specific application, consult your Vickers sales

representative if you’re: Pressure requirements are above 100 bar (1500 psi). Speed is above 1800 r/min rating.

Speed is below minimum recommended speed of 100 r/min. System requires fire resistant or other fluids.

Operating temperature is not within the range of 38 to 66 C (100 to 150 F). With proper application and fluid

consideration, a greater temperature range is permissible. Oil viscosities at operation condition are not within 100

to 250 SUS. Application requires an indirect drive. Oil viscosity at start-up is in excess of 1000 SUS mounting

attitude is other than horizontal.

Sauer PV Axial Piston Pumps

Axial piston variable displacement pumps, Series 20, are of swash plate’s construction with variable flow

capability suitable for hydrostatic transmission with closed loop circuit.

Axial piston variable displacement pumps, Series 20, are well-engineered and easy to

handle. The full-length shaft with a high efficient tapered roller bearing arrangement offers a

high loading capacity for external radial forces. Additional pumps can be built on. The hydro-

mechanical servo displacement control maintains the selected swash plate position and

hence pumps displacement. Upon release of the control handle, the swash plate

automatically returns to the null position and the flow becomes zero.

High case pressures can be archived without leakage even at the lowest temperature by

using suitable shaft seals. The servo valve arrangement offers the facility to incorporate

function regulators and remote control system. Axial piston units are designed for easy

servicing, complete dismantling and reassembly can be carried out standard hand tools, and

all components or sub-assemblies are replaceable.

Axial pistons fixed displacement motors, Series 20, are of swash plate construction with preset displacement, and

are intending for closed circuit operation. The output speed is proportional to the flow rate of the input fluid. The

output torque is proportional to the differential between high and low pressure sides of the fluid circuit. The

direction of motor (output) shaft rotation depends upon which port the fluid enters the motor.

Axial piston unit of bent axis design with fixed displacement, for use as either pump or motor in hydrostatic drives,

The fixed displacement plug-in motor A2FE is equipped with a standard axial tapered piston rotary group of bent

axis design. Hydrostatic plug-in motors are intended primarily for installation in mechanical gearboxes, e.g. track

drive gear boxes.

T6C T6D T6E Series are fixed displacement and balanced type single Denison hydraulic vane pumps. The

pump is designed for higher operating pressure and greater flow at the same housing size.

With a balanced pin-vane design, outlet pressure is continuously applied only to the pin. The pin provides

the steady light force against the vane. Top and bottom areas of the vane are subject to the same pressure,

EATON Vickers VQ VQH Hydraulic Vane Pump

Features

•Eaton Vickers V and VQ series are fixed displacement and balanced type vane pumps. Available in both 12

vanes, designs for industrial. Applications with quiet operating and 10 vanes design for mobile application with

higher pressure and wider strange of speed. They are widely used in hydraulic systems for machine-tools, presses,

die casting machine, engineering, plastic injection moulding and other machineries.

•The inlet or outlet ports can be rotated through increments of 90°in relation to each other, providing application

EATON Vickers V10 & V20 Power Steering Vane Pump

Features

•EATON Vickers 10 and V20 series are fixed displacement and balanced type vane pumps. With compact sizes,

they are available in single pumps and double pumps for both industrial and mobile application.

•The vane design with self compensation for wear and clearances makes volumetric efficiency of pump nearly

constant over the service life. (the vanes always adjust its orbit to contact with the cam ring, even though wear

occurs between the cam ring and vane tips)

•The vane pump is not damaged at low speed and high pressure operation because pumping action does not start

until the speed is high enough for the vane to throw out. With hydraulically balanced design, the bearing is

externally loaded only. Therefore, the pump requires minimized maintenance with long service life.

•The inlet or outlet ports can be rotated through increments of 90o in relation to each other, providing application

flexibility and easy installation.

•With optional flow control and priority valve covers, the pump can be used in more applications. The flow control

cover can limit the flow to the primary circuit at the required flow rate, while diverts remaining flow to the tank. The

priority valve cover maintains a constant flow to the primary circuit, while diverts remaining flow to the secondary

circuit. Each cover comes with a relief valve to limits the maximum pressure of the primary circuit.

•Interchangeable with original Vickers pump of the same model.

Handling

•For maximum service life, the pump should be protected from contamination. Filtering fluid before filling and during

operation to maintain or exceed ISO cleanliness code 17/14. Replaceable elements should be changed as filter

supplier instructions.

•The drive shaft must align with the power source shaft. Avoiding shaft end thrust and applications that impose

radial loading.

•The start-up procedures should be as follows:

- Check the rotation of power source to match the rotation of pump.

- Check inlet and outlet ports to assure all connections are properly installed and check all mounting bolts and

flanges to assure all are tight and properly aligned.

- Fill pump with fluid through the outlet port if the pump is mounted above the fluid level. The spline shaft models

also need to be lubricated with an anti-fretting grease or similar lubricant.

- Place all controls in the neutral position so the pump is unloaded during initial start-up.

- Prime the pump within a few second when the pump is started.

- Bleed off entrapped air from outlet circuit until a steady output flow is observed.

CW stands for clockwise, right-hand rotation. CCW stands for counter-clockwise, left-hand rotation.

START-UP CHECK-UP:

Check that the assembly of the power unit is correct: The distance between the suction pipe & the return lines in the

tank should be at its maximum. A bevel on both suction & return lines is recommended to increase the surface and

so lower the velocity. We suggest a 45° minimum angle.

Velocities: inlet 0,5 < x < 1,9 m/s (1,64 < x < 6,23 ft per sec.) : return x < 6 m/s (x < 19,7 ft per sec.) : Always

insure that all return and suction lines are under the oil level to avoid forming aeration or vortex effect. This should

be done under the most critical situation (all cylinders extended for example). Straight and short pipes are the best.

Start-up : The tank has been filled up with a clean fluid in proper conditions. Flushing the system with an external

pump prior to the start-up is good. To allow a good priming of the pump, the air should be bled off.

START-UP INSTRUCTIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS

the first valve on the circuit should be open to tank. Air bleed off valves are available on the market place. It is

possible to bleed off the air by creating a leak in the P port of the pump.

SHAFT & COUPLING DATA

DENISON Hydraulics supplies the T6 series keyed shaft pumps with high strength heat-treated keys. Therefore,

when installing or replacing these pumps, the heat treated keys must be used in order to ensure maximum life in the

application. If the key is replaced, it must be a heat-treated key between 27 and 34 R.C hardness. The corners of the

keys must be chamfered by 0,76 mm to 1,02 mm (0.03 to 0.04) at 45° to clear the radii in the key way. The

alignment of keyed shafts must be within tolerances given for splined shafts here above.

RECOMMENDED FLUIDS

Petroleum based anti-wear R & O fluids. These fluids are the recommended fluids for pumps & motors. Maximum

catalog ratings and performance data are based on operation with these fluids. These fluids are covered by

DENISON Hydraulics HF-0 and HF-2 specifications.

ACCEPTABLE ALTERNATE FLUIDS:

The use of fluids other than petroleum based anti-wear R & O fluids requires that the maximum ratings of the umps

will be reduced. In some cases the minimum replenishment pressures must be increased. Consult specific sections

for more details

VISCOSITY (for Industrial)

Max. (cold start, low speed & pressure) 860 cSt - 3900 SUS

Max. (full speed & pressure) 108 cSt - 500 SUS

Optimum (max. life) 30 cSt - 140 SUS

VISCOSITY INDEX: 90 min. Higher values extend the range of operating temperatures.

TEMPERATURES: The usual limitation factor of temperature (low or high) comes from the obtained viscosity.

The seals are sometimes the limit: standard seals range from -30° C to 90° C (-9.4° F to 194° F).

WATER CONTAMINATION IN THE FLUID

Maximum acceptable content of water:

0,10 % for mineral base fluids.

0,05 % for synthetic fluids, crankcase oils, biodegradable fluids.

If the amount of water is higher, then it should be drained off the circuit.
