Dual-Angle TeethRefer to Figure 2-1 & Figure 2-2:The Auger is shipped with teeth mounted at 40 degrees(see Figure 2-1). If you are experiencing difficulty inpenetrating the soil, they can be turned over andmounted at 50 degrees (see Figure 2-2) for a moreaggressive bite. Be sure to tighten all mounting hardwareto the proper torque when securing teeth to the Auger.

Auger Teeth Mounted at 40 DegreesFigure 2-1

Auger Teeth Mounted at 50 DegreesFigure 2-2

Operating Instructions1. Roll tilt arms to carry the auger low to the ground

while traveling between drilling positions.

2. Position the Skid Steer/Tractor on the upside of thehill when drilling a hole. This will greatly improve itsbalance and down force.

3. Experiment with auger speeds before digging.Increase Skid Steer/Tractor engine speed toincrease auger speed and decrease engine speed toreduce auger speed. Run at higher auger speedswhen digging in soft and/or sandy soils and at lowerauger speeds when digging in hard, rocky or frozensoils. Normal auger speed is 85 to rpm. Neverexceed 90 rpm or the equipment can becomedamaged.

25598

25598

IMPORTANT: Operate one loader function at atime. Operating two or more functions at a time(loader arms, tilt arms, engine speed and loaderpositioning) can lead to damaged equipment.

6/28/11

4. Maker sure auger rotation is stopped and then lowerauger point to the ground.

5. With engine running at a slow speed, start augerturning clockwise. Increase engine speed to desireddigging speed.

6. Periodically adjust the machine’s position to keep theauger and hole vertical.

7. Apply down pressure to assist penetration into theground. If auger speed slows or stops, back off downpressure. Excessive down pressure can stall theauger.

8. After penetrating the ground approximately 24", stopauger rotation and raise it up to remove soil anddebris from the hole. Lower auger back down tocontinue digging. Repeat this procedure until hole isat its final depth.

9. If auger has screwed itself into the soil or hits a largeobstruction and becomes stalled, then reverse augerrotation only enough to free it. Once free, continuenormal digging operations by lowering the augerdown slowly. If the auger does not penetrate theobstruction, raise auger out of the hole and removeobstruction by other means or dig a new hole nearby.

10. Allow auger to turn several revolutions at the finaldepth and then stop auger rotation.

11. Raise auger up out of the hole and roll tilt arms into alow carry position. Be careful to watch out for people, obstructions and uneven terrain when moving fromone digging site to the next.

IMPORTANT: Avoid side pressure on the auger. This can damage auger and drive components.

IMPORTANT: Always stop auger from rotatingbefore raising it out of the hole. This will keep theauger from wobbling with an unbalanced dirt load.

IMPORTANT: Do not reverse auger rotation whenraising it up. This will dump soil back into the hole.

IMPORTANT: Disengage power immediately ifauger becomes stalled while digging. Some SkidSteer’s have a hydraulic relief valve to protectequipment. The valve will open in a stalled situationand allow oil to bypass the hydraulic motor. Checkyour Skid Steer Operator’s Manual to see if yourloader is equipped with a hydraulic relief valve.

NOTE: It is best to leave drilling through hard rockto premium high pressure drilling equipment or otherrock excavation methods.

Section 2: Operating ProceduresTable of Contents

General OperationBy now you should have thoroughly read your Operator’sManual, properly installed your Post Hole Digger ontoyour Skid Steer or Tractor and performed your pre-startand operational running checklist. If you plan to dig holesimmediately, you should have also contacted your localutility companies to make sure it is safe to dig where youplan to work. If you haven’t done all of the things justdescribed above, please stop and do them now. This is amust for your safety and the safety of others.

Now that you are properly briefed, your SAC35 Post HoleDigger is properly installed, and you have the properdigging authorization from the utility companies, it’s timeto transport to the work site. With auger point aboveground, rotate tilt arms until auger is horizontal and thenlower loader arms to a low carrying position. Make sureauger does not come in contact with the ground whiletransporting. If you have an extensive distance to travel, you may want to secure the auger with ropes, slings, orchains to prevent swinging and potential damage intransport. Select a safe speed and transport to yourdigging site in such a manor that faster moving vehiclescan pass you safely. A slow moving vehicle sign shouldbe employed if you are using a public road or right-of way.Always comply with all federal, state and local laws.

Once you have safely arrived at your digging site, position your Skid Steer/Tractor so that the auger isdirectly over the spot where you want to dig a hole. Ifprovided, make sure your operator protective shield orsafety door is securely in place. Lower Skid Steer/Tractorarms and auger to a point where the auger clears theground by approximately 12". Do not operate the Augerwhen the auger is more than 12" above ground level orthe auger could bind or swing erratically causing injury tothe operator and damage to the equipment.

With the engine at idle engage the hydraulic circuit andraise engine rpm to operate between 10 and 25 GPMhydraulic flow to a point where the auger is turning at aspeed of approximately 85 to 90 rpm. Do not operate theauger at speeds over 90 rpm or damage to the Post HoleDigger and Skid Steer/Tractor could result. Using theloader arm controls, lower the auger into the ground untilthe desired depth is achieved and then raise the spinningauger back up to remove extraneous soil. Once the holeis completed, disengage hydraulic drive circuit, raiseauger tip approximately 12" above ground, and moveaway from hole.

If an obstacle is encountered that stalls the auger whiledigging, reverse auger rotation and lift up to clear theobstacle.

The Skid Steer cannot be moved while the auger isdigging a hole. Damage to the gearbox or auger canresult if Skid Steer moves while auger is in the hole.

12 Model SAC35 Hydraulic Post Hole Digger 317-188M

Before dismounting your Skid Steer/Tractor; you mustalways set the park brake, lower your loaders arms andattachment to the ground, turn off the machine andremove the ignition key. If you must park on a hillside youshould always chock the Skid Steer/Tractor wheels for anextra measure of safety.

With a little practice and experience you should becomevery good at operating your Land Pride SAC35 SeriesPost Hole Digger.
