Introduction

This Manual will assist you in the Installation, Operation and Maintenance of the Kevrek Crane. The Manual does not replace any government regulations, safety codes or insurance requirements.

DO NOT modify the Crane with anything other then genuine Kevrek spare parts. If in doubt, please contact your nearest Kevrek Dealer. NEVER alter or modify any Kevrek Safety Device. All Kevrek Safety Devices must be inspected, tested and maintained in proper working condition.

The owner of the Kevrek Crane is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Crane in the safest working condition. Kevrek recommend that a complete service is carried out by a qualified Kevrek Service Agent, after first 6 months of operation and thereafter every 12 months. Failure to do so could result in the warranty to be void.

The Warranty on the Kevrek Crane will be void on any part of the unit that has be subjected to misuse due to overloading, abuse, lack of maintenance, incorrect operation or unauthorized modifications.

Safety Instructions

READ AND UNDERSTAND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS CRANE

* Ensure vehicle is on secure ground and vehicle parking brake is engaged prior to operating Crane.

* NEVER operate the Crane on unlevel ground (up to 5° incline)

* NEVER operate the Crane without the Stabiliser Leg or Leg`s in position on firm ground.

If ground below Stabiliser Leg is not firm, place wooden or steel planks under leg to stop leg from sinking into the ground under weight.

* The Stabiliser Leg must not be adjusted while load is supported by the Crane.

* NEVER stand under a load when suspended from the Crane.

* When driving vehicle always ensure Crane is in the folded transport position.

* NEVER drive with load suspended from Crane, or with Boom extended.

* NEVER modify the Crane in any way.

* NEVER use the Crane for pulling or towing the load.

* ALWAYS ensure load is lifted clear of ground before attempting to slew.

* NEVER drag load along ground by slew mechanism.

* NEVER operate the Crane under or near overhead Electrical Wires.

* Observe the Load Chart affixed to both sides of the Crane and NEVER exceed or overload the Crane.

The Kevrek Load chart must be kept in a clean and legible manner at all times.

* NEVER position yourself between vehicle and suspended load.

* NEVER continue operating the unit with low vehicle battery power supply, low DC Power Pack, oil level or with worn or faulty components.

* ALWAYS use genuine Kevrek spare parts as failure to do so could cause warranty to be void

* Consult your Kevrek dealer for repair or maintenance work required.

Operating Instructions

READ AND UNDERSTAND OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS CRANE

1. Ensure vehicle is on secure ground and vehicle parking brake is engaged

2. Remove Manual Stabiliser Leg from Transport Mount and insert into Underbody Mount.

3. Lower leg onto firm ground via pin adjustment and final screw down adjustment.

4. Turn Battery Isolator Key clockwise to the ON position.

Your Kevrek Crane is now powered ready for work.

5. Operate Lever in-line with function required.

The Hydraulic Control Lever Console at the base of the Crane is labelled for each function.

When activating the required Valve Lever on the Control Console the first 5° of Lever movement serves to start the Motor of the Electric Power Pack. All progressive Lever movement from this point will result in a progressively faster hydraulic movement.

6. Where Boom Extension function is not Hydraulic, i.e. Manual Pinned, ensure the Boom is pinned at the correct length prior to lifting load.

NOTE: NEVER adjust Manual Boom while load is suspended.

7. Where the slewing function is not Hydraulic, i.e.-Manual Crank, place the Crank Handle in the Slew Housing at the base of the Crane and crank manually clockwise or counter clockwise as desired.

8. If you do not know the weight of your load, pick it up from the shortest reach possible and NEVER extend with the possibility of overloading the Crane.

9. On completion of loading, return Crane into correct transport position.

10. Turn Battery Isolator Key anti clockwise to the OFF position.

11. Raise Stabiliser Leg and replace in Transport Mount.

Operating InstructionsHydraulic Boom Sequence

When operating a Kevrek Crane ALWAYS use the shortest possible Boom Extension, however, when it is necessary to extend the Crane Booms to obtain longer reach, do so by always using the largest Boom section then the next largest and so on in logical sequence as shown below.

Cranes fitted with Dual Hydraulic Extension Booms, have Sequencing Valves present, however, if in the course of operation the Boom starts to operate out of sequence then return the Crane to your local Kevrek Dealer to have the appropriate adjustments made.

1. Raise Main Boom of Crane and Pin Sheave Block Assembly to end of Boom.

2. Run Winch Rope out past Sheave Block Assembly and lay Rope into Sheave Rollers.

3. Install Rope Retaining Pin.

4. Winch Rope must now be lowered down to enable Crane Boom to be extended to required length.

The Hydraulic Winch has a maximum lift capacity of 500kg constant line pull, this should be observed when operating the Winch at full Crane Boom Extension.

5. When operating Winch ensure Crane load capacity stated on both sides of Main Boom is not exceeded.

6. If weight of load being lifted is not known, first take up rope slack with Winch, then test lift with main boom cylinder. If Main Boom Cylinder will not lift weight, DO NOT proceed to winch as this will overload the Crane. If this occurs retract Extension Booms until the Main Boom Lift Cylinder will lift the weight, then winching can proceed.

7. Before slewing Crane, ensure load is clear off ground.

8. On completion of loading, remove Sheave Block, retract Winch Rope and return Crane into the transport position.

Maintenance and Care

As the owner of a Kevrek Crane, you can expect it to continue operating safely and reliably for many years. This statement and our warranty however presupposes that the crane will be subjected to regular inspection and preventative and service maintenance.

The objective of periodic inspection is to ensure the serviceability and safe operation of the crane. Recording of information will provide a history of the crane’s condition from the inspection reports, maintenance and any repairs carried out in accordance with Kevrek’s recommendations and proceeding. A record of the quarterly inspections and annual servicing is required and relevant information originating from each inspection and service..

It is recommended that a Complete service is carried out by a qualified Kevrek service agent after the first 6 months of operation and thereafter every 12 months.

Weekly Inspection

* Check oil level in Hydraulic Oil Tank.

* Check Battery Isolator Key is functional.

* Check Valve and Microswitches. Start Electric Motor when lever is moved and stop Motor when lever is returned to neutral.

* Check the rest of the Crane for damage.

* Repair immediately any component on the Crane that is damaged.

Inspection and Maintenance Every 3 Months

* Remove Console Cover and inspect Slew Worm for excessive wear or movement. Replace or tighten as necessary, clean off old grease and apply fresh grease.

* Check Valve Lead Seal is in place.

* Check Hose Connections under Valve and tighten if necessary.

* Check and tighten Hydraulic Connections around Power Pack and around Crane, Leg and Slew Motor.

* Check Safety Latch on hook and general condition of other lifting tackle that is used.

* Check all Notices, Load Chart Stickers and Valve Lever Stickers are in place and legible.

* Check Mounting Bolts and structural integrity of Mounting Frame.

* Carry out visual inspection of structural parts to detect any cracks or deformation.

* Inspect nylon wear buttons between Boom sections for excessive wear and replace if necessary.

* Check oil level in Hydraulic Oil Tank.

* Lubricate contact areas and the top and Bottom of the Booms with heavy, good quality grease.

* Put Crane through full capacity Load Test and listen for any suspicious noises or excessive play in pivot points.

Hydraulic Oil Maintenance

The oil level in the Power Pack of your Kevrek Crane should be checked with the Crane in the fully folded position and should be at the level indicated in the diagram.

Hydraulic oil should be changed every 12 months. Use only fresh High Quality 46 WEIGHT Hydraulic Oil.

Remove Power Pack front cover every six months to inspect Motor Brushes. Install new Brushes if necessary and re-install front cover securely.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

Trouble Shooting

Crane will operate but Hydraulic action is slow and jerky:

* Check oil in Power Pack oil tank - top up if necessary.

* Check oil tank for contamination and possible contaminants in Control Valve or Load Holding Valves.

* Drain complete Hydraulic system.

* After reassembly be sure to bleed all Hydraulic functions free of air.

* Check Suction Filter is clean.

Isolator Key Is on but Crane will not run:

* Check Emergency Stop is not pushed in.

* Check 5amp in-line Fuse in Harness running from Valve Console down to Electric Power Pack Solenoid - replace if necessary.

* Check Isolator Switch for correct operation - replace if faulty.

* Check for faulty Motor Solenoid or Electric Motor Brushes - replace if necessary.

* Check Emergency Stop N/C Contact Block

Crane will not support Full Permissible Load, without slowly lowering down:

* Load Holding Valve is possibly blocked with contaminants or in need of adjustment. Contact your nearest Kevrek agent for this service.

Crane will not lift allowable load:

* Pressure Relief Valve on Electric Power Pack or Control Valve requires adjustment. Contact your nearest Kevrek agent for this service.

Crane Motor will not stop working when the Levers or Switches are not activated:

* The DC Motor Solenoid is stuck, closed or the Mircoswitch/Microswitch Actuator is faulty. - Replace the faulty part.

(Until the part can be replaced, turn the Crane on and off by using the Isolation Switch).

Installation Instructions

FAILURE TO ADHERE TO AUSTRALIAN STANDARD MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS, CAN RESULT IN EQUIPMENT FAILURE AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY.

When fitting a Kevrek Crane, make note of the underfloor cross support locations. When correctly fitted, the Mounting Frame sits in the cavity between the Main Load Bearer and the Floor Plate between 2 Cross Bearers and butts up to the Side Combing Rail.

1. Disconnect vehicle battery supply in preparation for welding.

2. Fit Mounting Frame under floor of vehicle allowing at least 250mm from vehicle head board to center of the Mounting Frame.

3. Jack Mounting Frame hard up under vehicle floor plate and pull hard against vehicle Side Combing Rail.

4. Mounting Frame can now be welded to Side Combing Rail to Main Load Bearer to Cross Bearers and to Underfloor Plate to ensure frame is rigidly mounted.

5. Eight 14mm holes can now be drilled through the vehicle floor plate using pre-drilled Mounting Frame holes as a guide.

6. The slotted hole can now be drilled or gas cut to allow Hydraulic and Electric lines to go from Control Console to Electric Power Pack.

Where possible, slotted hole should be lined with Pinch Mold or Split Water Hose to stop abrasion on the lines.

7. Mount Crane on the top of the floor and fasten through Mounting Frame then through Motor Mounting Frame using bolts supplied with kit.

ImportantIf a Kevrek Winch is to be fitted, you will need to allow 400mm from either the Cab Rack or the Toolbox to the center of the Mount Frame. Failure to do this will cause the Winch to hit when the Boom is in the horizontal position.

8. Feed Hydraulic Hoses through slotted hole in Floor Plate.

9. Fit Electric Power Pack up to Motor Mounting Base under vehicle body.

10. Connect Hydraulic Hoses hanging through slot in Vehicle Floor Plate. The large Elbow Fitting to Large Nipple on near side of Power Pack and the small Elbow Fitting to Small Nipple on far side of Power Pack.

11. Connect Electrical Harness from Control Console through vehicle floor, to Motor Starter Solenoid shown in Diagram below.

12. Weld or bolt Battery Isolator (supplied in kit) under Vehicle Floor Plate or in a convenient location on the vehicle.

13. Mount Switch close enough so that the cable can be connected to the Large Lug on the near side of the Electric Motor Starter Solenoid.

14. Find a suitable place in the engine bay, as close as possible to the battery to mount the 250amp Fuse Holder.

15. Connect Cable supplied from the positive Battery Terminal to the 250amp Fuse

16. Run insulated Battery Cable from the 250amp Fuse along vehicle chassis to spare Terminal on Battery Isolator Key.

CAUTION: DO NOT CONNECT TO BATTERY POLE YET

NOTE: Cable length is supplied to accommodate for a majority of vehicle types and fitting positions and therefore may prove to be over length. If this is the case, simply run the cable along chassis, Past Power Pack and loop back to make connection, using zip ties to fasten to chassis as often as needed.

17. Ensure that the vehicle body is properly grounded to chassis so that a suitable earth is obtained for Electric Power Pack.

18. Reconnect all vehicle Electrical Wires to original positions.

19. Connect Insulated Cable to positive terminal on Vehicle Battery.

20. Double check that when battery connections were tightened, lugs did not swing down to touch and possibly earth on the body or chassis parts nearby.

21. Double check and tighten all Crane Mounting Bolts.

22. Check Power Pack oil level.

This Crane has been factory run and pressure tested, therefore hydraulic system is fully primed, however unit may need to be run through a complete cycle before lifting weight due to refitting of hoses.

Slew Stop Adjustment

All Kevrek Cranes fitted with a Manual Control Valve come standard with Dual Slew Stop to prevent the Boom from travelling over the operators position. If the Crane has a Cable or Radio Remote then the procedure below may be applicable.

TO ADJUST THE POSITIONING OF THE SLEW STOP

1. Remove Plastic Control Cover.

2. Remove adjustable Slew Stop Bolt and replace in 1 of 4 positions.

3. Where the rotation stop position was changed by more than 90°, the exit direction of the Hydraulic Hoses from the Base may have to be redirected from left to right hand exit according to Slew Stop adjustments made.

4. Reinstall Plastic Control Cover.

5. Test Crane slew rotation to ensure all adjustments made were correct.
