Fire has always fascinated people, for when we see the light of the fire and hear the crackle of the flames, we feel at home and in touch with our innermost nature. It is a simple pleasure which satisfies our basic human instincts in a quite fundamental way.
This fascination is reflected in all wood-burning stoves from HWAM. Our stoves are the result of more than 35 years’ experience, and their stylish, quiet exteriors embrace a burning passion for design, innovation, quality, and attention to detail.
For we insist on setting new standards for user friendliness, design, finish, and performance. Simply because we always want the best – an aim which requires a significant commitment! Warmest regards,

All modern wood burning stoves provide adequate, efficient combustion. Unfortunately not all stove owners take the time to discover or understand how to operate their wood burning stoves to the optimum.
Sketches 1 and 2 show the difference between combustion as it occurs when firing with and without HWAM automatic™ combustion optimisation.

Brilliant solutions are often simple little details which nevertheless make a huge difference in our everyday lives. And HWAM’s patented automatic system is no exception to this rule. It consists of a small spring which automatically regulates the supply of air to the combustion. A strikingly simple, yet ingeniously brilliant function which offers numerous automagic benefits – both for you and for the environment.
Simple, convenient operationAutomagic because you do not have to worry about manually regulating the air supply. The automatic system optimises the combustion for you, completely ... well, automatically. All you need to do is to light up the stove and enjoy the flames and the heat to the full. And when you add more firewood, the system will automatically readjust the stove to achieve the optimum combustion. Couldn’t be easier.
Easier cleaningAutomagic because the optimised consumption results in cleaner smoke, reducing the amount of ashes and soot. This translates into easier cleaning – of both the chimney and the stove itself. In addition, the combustion chamber is designed with a unique window rinsing system which serves to prevent the glass pane from sooting up. This way you can always enjoy an optimum view of the flames with a minimum amount of cleaning. Couldn’t be more convenient.
More energy, better economyAutomagic because the automatic system squeezes out extra energy from the firewood. The improved energy efficiency has been documented on several occa-sions, and you can expect improvements of 20-30% compared to conventional wood-burning stoves. In short, you get much more heating for your money with a HWAM. Couldn’t be more economical.
Minimum strain on the environmentAutomagic because you can light up your stove with a green conscience, as the cleaner consumption reduces the strain on the environment to a minimum. Both in the form of a reduced consumption of resources, but also in the form of less smoke and particles.HWAM uses the Nordic environmental certification, the Swan Label. In doing so, we remain committed to improving the efficiency of our stoves, while at the same time reducing their impact on the environment. Couldn’t be more environmental.
Tested and documentedAutomagic because HWAM’s patented automatic system has been tested and docu-mented in numerous studies performed by test centres all over Europe. At the same time, and over the last 20 years, we have regularly received positive feedback telling us about the pleasant surprise it has been for our customers to switch from a conventional wood-burning stove to an automagic HWAM. Couldn’t be safer.

This small and very spacious insert is ideal for small rooms. Even though the insert takes up very little space, the width of its combustion chamber is an impressive 34,5 cm. The square glass pane serves as an elegant frame for the flames and the lifting door makes the insert both modern and functional.
A master stroke of design brought to you by the successful design duo Strand + Hvass. Here you’ll find stylish and functional design of the utmost intelligence.I 30 Series
The large glass pane can be opened upwards in a single, ele-gant sliding motion, and in spite of its size, it can be opened with just one hand. Not only is it user-friendly and pleasing to the eye, but the motion also creates a partial vacuum that minimises the risk of ash escaping into the room.
With the glass pane up, there is unobstructed access to the deep combustion chamber, where the firewood lies safely and stably in place. If the glass pane is in need of a quick cleaning, it can be removed with a simple snap, tilted out and cleaned without any hassle.
The HWAM I 30 Series consists of three inserts.

The large glass pane elegantly – but discretely – provides the perfect frame for the dancing flames. The HWAM I 30/55 is for the design-minded buyer who wants only the best, all the way down to the smallest detail. The pane opens in a smooth, upward motion when the insert is to be lit, and fire-wood can be added easily. The insert’s width also means that the HWAM I 30/55 can hold larger pieces of firewood.

Made in Denmark“To travel is to live”, as the Danish fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen once wrote. And visitors may well think in terms of fairytales when coming to Denmark for the first time. With its green, undulating landscape, Denmark is one of the oldest kingdoms in the world. Denmark is a small country, a pioneering society. And, like Hans Christian Andersen, Danes have felt an urge to travel into the world outside to trade, seek learning and inspiration since the dawn of time, and always with typical humility to other, bigger nations all over the world that it now exports its products to.
Denmark’s raw materials are creativity and innovation, and first-class Danish craftsmanship has made Denmark well known far beyond its borders. This creativity and innovation is reflected in the works of some of its fa-mous natives: the paintings of Asger Jorn, the fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen, dogma films by Lars von Trier, architecture such as the Sydney Opera House by Jørn Utzon and La Grande Arche in Paris by Otto von Speckelsen. To these can be added such products as LEGO children’s building blocks and Bang & Olufsen’s stylish audio and TV systems.
Denmark also takes the lead in the development of alternative sources of energy that include electric cars, solar and geothermal heating and, most significantly today, wind turbines and the biofuel industry, which includes the combustion of wood.
Denmark has a long-standing tradition for furniture design and applied art. Danish furniture design and craftsmanship are known throughout the world for high quality and timeless functionality.
Danish design and style are minimalist and characterised by beautiful, aesthetic forms and thoroughly thought-out details that make life easier for the user.
HWAM Made in DenmarkWood-burning stoves from HWAM A/S exemplify clas-sic Danish products. Danish design, Danish creativity and Danish craftsmanship.
HWAM stoves are designed by recognised Danish ar-chitects and furniture designers. They have made sure that our products have the right proportions and are easy on the eye. Their expressions are simple, elegant and timeless and they fit harmoniously into classic and modern homes alike. Close collaboration between de-signers and HWAM A/S has resulted in the development of the unique, delightful details that put HWAM stoves into a class of their own.
HWAM stoves are made in Denmark as there can be no compromising on quality. Danish engineers design and prepare the products for the manufacturing pro-cess on the basis of HWAM’s 35 years of experience. All vital components are manufactured at a high-tech production plant in Hørning, Denmark. The products are manually assembled and finished before they are packed and shipped to customers, who are ensured a five-year warranty on their new HWAM stoves.
Danish design, Danish technology and Danish crafts-manship. Danish throughout!

3600
HWAM 3610 is elegant thanks to its simplicity. It is a flexible stove which can be hung on the wall or placed on a 7-cm plinth practically anywhere in your home.
HWAM 3610 with plinth, black
The simple, beautiful HWAM style is easily recognisable in this new series of wood-burning stoves, the HWAM 3600 Series. The large, arched glass pane is accompanied by glass on either side. The dancing flames can be enjoyed from several angles, allowing the fire to intensify its presence in the room. The side panes of glass add a light touch to the overall appearance of the stove and put fewer limitations on its position in your home.
The HWAM 3600 Series has great heating capacity. The com-bustion chamber is developed using state-of-the-art combus-
tion technology, and both primary and secondary air is added together with a third air supply being introduced to wash over the glass, ensuring it remains clear; all controlled by the HWAM automaticTM.
A combustion air system can easily be connected to these wood-burnings stoves so that the combustion will not depend on the air in the room. Furthermore, HWAM 3650 allows for heat storage in the heat storage compartment above the combustion chamber.

Heat storage is a phenomenon known from the large mass stoves where heat is stored in the stones sur-rounding the combustion chamber. Heat storage in a wood-burning stove is the combination of the wood-burning stove’s ability to quickly and comfortably distri-bute the convection heat and the thermal mass stove’s ability to store the heat.
As something entirely new, the HWAM 3500 Series and HWAM 3650 are designed with a heat storage com-partment. The compartment can be filled with a large amount of soapstone. Soapstone has a special ability to store heat from the wood-burning stove, which will then slowly be emitted into the room, even long after the fire has died. This way the advantages of the con-vection heat of the wood-burning stove and the heat storage of the mass stove can be enjoyed at the same time - enveloped in the stylish HWAM design.
While the wood-burning stove is burning, the soapstone in the heat storage compartment will be heated up. Once the fire in the combustion chamber has died, the soapstone will continue emitting the stored heat into the room. Tests show that soapstone in the small heat storage compartment will keep warm for up to 10 hours, whereas soapstone in the large storage com-partment will keep warm for up to 14 hours after the last stoking.
As an extra feature, the HWAM 3500 Series and HWAM 3650 have a knob which regulates the convection air to the heat storage compartment. When the convection damper is closed, the heat stored in the soapstone will be retained in the heat storage compartment for as long as possible; once the damper is opened, the heat will be distributed to the room as quickly as possible.

3500
The multi-functional HWAM 3500 Series has a discreet stylish appearance and offers numerous possibilities. Choose the design that matches your home: tall or low, matt or shiny, steel or stone. All the little details are concealed in the design, and the elegant lifting door makes the wood-burning stove very user-friendly.
The HWAM 3500 Series comprises environmentally-friendly wood-burning stoves with low particle emission and a high degree of efficiency. All air to the combustion
chamber is controlled by the HWAM automaticTM, which ensures optimum combustion. A combustion air system can be connected to the stove, either from the rear or through the bottom of the stove; this way, the combus-tion will not depend on the air in the room.
As an option, heat-storing soapstone may be placed in the heat compartment, allowing part of the heat to be let out continuously during the hours after the fire has died.

Combustion air systemNo oxygen, no fire. It’s that simple. That is why a constant flow of air to the wood-burning stove is needed to create clean and effective combustion in your new HWAM. But today’s homes must be both energy efficient and environmentally friendly, and they are therefore very well-insulated. This makes good sense, but it can be a problem when it comes to your wood-burning stove having a sufficient amount of air – which is important for building a proper fire. Especially if a heat recovery system is installed, which mechanically replaces the home’s indoor air. You can, of course, just open a window, but who wants to do that on a cold winter day just to let the wood-burning stove get a bit of air?
We at HWAM have naturally given some thought to the matter. The solution lies in a combustion air system, which ensures a constant flow of air to the wood-burning stove. HWAM’s combustion air system creates air circulation that is almost completely impermeable. Air needed for the fire inside the wood-burning stove is sucked in from above via a pipe that leads outside through the wall. When the fire is burning, air flows further up through the chimney, thereby closing the air circulation cycle. The advantage of this system lies in the fact that the wood-burning stove does not ’steal’ its own warmth to keep the flames going. In this way, you avoid unnecessary heat loss and gain a more energy-efficient wood-burning stove. The system consists of a casing that seals in the stove’s automatic system, as well as the necessary pipe work for the ground installation.
The system can be installed in several different ways. Houses with basements can run the pipe through the floor and via the basement to the outside. Of course, the easiest method is to run the pipe through the outside wall against which the stove is positioned. If you are building a new house or renovating, HWAM recommends constructing a pipe system already in the initial phase, which will ensure a sufficient amount of external air for combustion in your new wood-burning stove.
You can, of course, consult with your local HWAM dealer for further information on the available options.

Environmental awareness
You can light up a HWAM stove with a clear conscience. For burning wood is a CO2-neutral process, which means that no additional CO2 is given off to the global circulation. The CO2 captured in the wood is simply released again, so the wood gives off the same amount of CO2 as if it were decomposing on the forest floor.
Therefore a HWAM stove is gentle on the environment. Many years of development work have made these sto-ves extremely efficient, enabling them to utilise nearly all the energy in the wood. The smoke coming out of the chimney consists mainly of water vapours, resulting in a minimum strain on the environment – unlike heating from oil, gas or coal.
Several of HWAM’s stoves bear the Swan Label, the Nordic stamp of environmental approval. The Swan La-bel makes it easy and fast to find environment-friendly products. In order to be eligible for the Swan Label, sto-ves must utilise fuel with great efficiency, among other things, and must comply with rigorous limits on local air pollution and emissions of dangerous substances such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.
We remain committed to making our stoves even more efficient and environmentally friendly. This im-plies, i.e., that our stoves meet the rigorous Norwegian environmental standards on minimising the amount of hazardous particles and gasses, which are among the most restrictive in Europe. It also implies that with a HWAM stove you will get a heating source with a very high level of efficiency, which in turn gives you more environmentally friendly heating for your money.
HWAM’s wood-burning stoves are subjected to com-prehensive testing to determine their performance in different conditions and at different temperatures and combustion speeds. The purpose is to ensure that the stoves comply with our rigorous environmental demands in any situation – imaginable as well as uni-maginable.
However, the biggest environmental risk comes from improper firing in the stove. But we have got a solu-tion for that, too, as it is very easy to achieve optimum combustion with a HWAM. All you need to do is to use the right amount of dry firewood, and the pa-tented automatic system will guarantee a constantly optimised air supply and combustion. Easy and con-venient – and more importantly: gentle on the envi- ronment. After all, it does imply a certain obligation to say: HWAM – intelligent heat.

Pinewood
Soft wood sort which catches fire very easily and is therefore highly suitable for lighting up the stove. Pinewood burns with a tremendous bright flame, leaving only few embers. The same is true of spruce.
Pinewood makes good kind-ling but burns quickly.
Beechwood
Hard wood sort which also requires a high temperature to catch fire. But it will reward your patience with a lovely warmth and lots of embers to create a nice and cosy atmosphere. Further-more, beechwood burns for a long time, which makes it ideal for those long, cold winter days.
Beech is an ideal firewood.
Oakwood
Hard wood sort which requires a high tempera-ture before it catches fire. But once the fire catches, it is well worth the effort. A lovely warmth will spread throughout the room, ac-companied by a pleasant view of the glowing em-bers and a most satisfying crackle of the fire.
Oak has a long burning and ember time.
Most sorts of wood serve excellently as firewood. There are, however, variations between the different sorts, for instance in terms of price and calorie value. But it is key for the wood to have a max. humidity of approx. 20% – i.e. to be almost completely dry (min. storage time 2 winters), before you light it up. This will ensure a clean combustion with clear flames and prevent chimney soot and pollution from the stove.
Birchwood
Soft wood sort which catches fire easily and warms well. It burns silently, developing less smoke and embers than other sorts of wood. On the other hand, it burns with spectacular flames and an absolutely wonderful scent. The same is true of lime and chestnut.
Birch is best suited for kind-ling and relighting.

Ash Clean System™
Unique Door System
HWAM A/S is a company that develops constantly, due to which there may occur changes in the product specifications found in this catalouge. With reservations for misprints. 29-0521
All HWAM stoves designed by the Strand + Hvass duo and the HWAM 3400 and HWAM 3500 series designed by architect Anders C. Fasterholt are equipped with an exclusive lifting door.
The door is constructed so that it opens and closes with a steady, balanced vertical movement. When closing, the door glides silently into position and completely seals the opening.
The system confirms HWAM’s high technological and innovative level.
When it is opened, the vertical gliding movement of the lift-lower door minimises turbulence in the combustion chamber so that ash is not whirled up and blown into the room. Convenient for you as it reduces the need for cleaning around the stove.
Rotating PlinthThe rotating plinth is available as an accessory for the following stoves with top flue outlet: HWAM 3410, HWAM 3420, HWAM 3430, HWAM 3440, HWAM Beethoven, HWAM Vivaldi, HWAM Ravel and HWAM Mozart.
The wood-burning stove is placed on a rotating plinth, and a ring is mounted between the stove and smoke pipe. It is now possible and easy to rotate your woodburning stove.
When it is time to clean your wood-burning stove, ash must be effectively removed. The HWAM 3320 and HWAM 4410 wood-burning stoves offer the solution, as each model is equipped with the patented HWAM Ash Clean System™. The system is discretely concealed behind the door, and it ensures easier cleaning due to its completely closed system.
The HWAM Ash Clean System™ causes ash to fall into the closed ash pan, after which it can be easily vacuumed out with a HWAM Ash Vac.
