Make a Plan

• “Proper planning provides peak performance!” (KISS)– Plans should include mitigation plans for sheltering in place or a contingency plan

to evacuate primary location & an evacuation plan (Bugging-Out).– Who will be involved? Family & friends, elderly, medical or special needs persons,

pets, etc.?– What kind of supply kits & equipment needed?– All the what if scenarios should be looked at! – A communications plan for all those involved.

• Keeping informed as to the abilities & plans of any & all authorities! • A flow of information in & out to every member of your disaster team!

– Contingency plans when a disaster hits away from your base of operations or sheltering.

– Length of prepared supplies at primary & secondary locations.• Special note several kinds of supplies will be needed.• Rotate supplies.

– Portability of prepared supplies & personnel.– All involved must learn & practice your plan(s)!

• Make it fun, especially for children & spouse!• Don’t forget special pet needs especially if relocating.

School & Work Plans

• Unfortunately we don’t get to pick where & when natural disasters occur & affect us.

• Build small 1day BOB’s for every member of your family. Kids may only need bare minimums. (a small flashlight, cell phone, granola/power bar, list of key emergency phone numbers)

Evacuation Routes

• During disasters many roads, bridges & tunnels will be closed by local government or by situation. Therefore:– Always think of safety first;

– If you are to evacuate from a danger zone, do it prior to the event;

– Know your evacuation routes

– Know your problem areas – flood zones, poor drainage areas, fire zones, etc.;

– Make a detail evacuation plan with contingencies;

– Develop or know safe zones for emergency evacuation & egress situations;

– Develop plans to rescue & evacuate friends & family if needed;

– Use family & friends as possible secondary locations if they are in safer zones.
