Welcome to Hunting Report 8 of the 2017 Season We are really delighted to report on some more great hunts In August we hunted some

more amazing plains game and one of our good friends and clients added a rhino to his

list

We are sad that our hunting season is slowly coming to an end but we are excited to start

planning for the 2018 Show Season We really look forward to letting all of you know when

and where we will be

We look forward to welcoming a few more hunters in the next couple of months

We were happy to celebrate PH Janneman and Suzanne in the offices birthdays inSeptember on the 16th and 12th respectively Happy birthday guys

Suzanne also got a massive surprise for her birthday when her boyfriend nowfiance Brian proposed to her Congratulations May your wonderful journey befilled with love and happiness

Cater Family Safari We were very pleased to welcome our good friend Paul Cater back to South Africa Paul

brought with his girlfriend Teresa Pauls daughter and son Haylee and Colton also

joined as did Teresas mother Margie and her sons Justin and Brandon with Justins

wife Jackie

Pauls main aim on this safari was a rhino and he ended up taking down a really

magnificent one Paul is a great conservationist and responsible hunter We would like to



congratulate him on taking this spectacular trophy - what a fantastic achievement

Rhino owners offer their old bulls to trophy hunters when they canrsquot breedanymore The amounts of dollars earned from this are used to protect thehabitats of the rhinos and other wildlife as well the money really helps inmanagement plans for rhinos so that the owners can buy new bulls and cowsso that they can breed A very big part of the money goes towards anti-poaching The trophy hunter is the unsung hero of rhino conservation Theeffort from conservationists and hunters is a huge success story on how tomanage endangered animals

Paul additionally shot a beautiful springbuck grand slam of Kalahari white copper and

black

Paul added to his dangerous seven by also taking down a massive croc



Paul in addition shot common springbuck Kalahari springbuck and a beautiful Hartmanns

zebra Well done on all of these great trophies Paul You are truly an outstanding hunter

Pauls lovely girlfriend Teresa had a great time hunting a whole bunch of animals with us

Teresa got a beautiful sable and roan



Teresa also took down two springbuck white and black as well as a gemsbuck at sunset

We last saw Pauls daughter Haylee when she was 8 years old It was amazing to see

Haylee again and to witness what a great woman she has grown into Haylee shot an

ostrich and spent time visiting with Lindie and Margie We were very touched to see a

message that Haylee posted on her Facebook page

I remember the first time I went to Africa I was 8 and seeing a whole other worldthan the one I knew This new world seemed so different from my home it wasbigger wilder and freeing I could never put my finger on it but I knew it made me

experience a feeling a never knew Something that you dont feel here in the states Iremember finding out we were going to make this trip almost 2 years ago and myheart was so full I had been dreaming of going back everyday for the past 15 yearsI would be back in this beautiful place back to that feeling I will admit I was nervous Nervous that going back wouldnt be the same Thatmaybe my 8 year old perception and memories were exaggerations and fantasiesBut I was also eager to see how my 23 year old self would see this world Would thatfeeling still be there The past 10 days have been beyond words I played with elephants zip linedthrough a beautiful gorge gazed the big hole learned the history of Kimberlyexplored different tribes contributed to wildlife conservation played with lion cubswatched herds run across plains absorbed every sunset conquered my fear ofhunting celebrated my dads birthday drank lots of wine ate some crazy things(including a worm) found a love for malva pudding grew closer to my family madenew friends and enjoyed the company of old friends And I felt the feeling Lindie told me Africa will heal your soul and she was right That is the best wayanyone could put that feeling into words I only wish everyone could experience it at-least once in their life These memories I will cherish for the rest of my life Playing back all the smiles andlaughs we all shared the stories we would all come back with at the end of the daytalk about the congratulations hugs and toasts the bonds that grew A big thank-you to everyone who made this trip possible And most importantly Paul Cater I love you

Pauls son Colton an avid hunter also took advantage of the family trip to Africa and took

down a few great trophies Coltons haul included a common springbuck blue wildebeest

blesbuck and red hartebeest



Colton also shot a really nice black wildebeest impala and a baboon



Congratulations on all of these outstanding trophies Colton - your dad must be very proud

of you

It was also great to hunt with Justin Teresas son and his wife Jackie They used a 30-06

with custom loaded 180 grain AccuBond ammunition from Superior for all of their shots



The stalking was a great thrill We learned a lot from each stalk rather it be the animals

track or the direction the dirt was pushed or if they were running or walking I was very

impressed at the knowledge our PH had and he was not hesitant to educate us on

everything that was going on

Justin took down a really great gemsbuck springbuck blue wildebeest and black

wildebeest



Justin also hunted a blesbuck bushbuck impala and zebra



Justins wife Jackie also took down some great animals including a red hartebeest

impala and a really beautiful waterbuck



Last but not least we were very happy to welcome Teresas other son Brandon to Africa

for a great hunt Brandon also took down a host of different plains game including

springbuck red hartebeest and impala

Brandon also shot blesbuck blue wildebeest gemsbuck and warthog





Margie and Haylee spent some time with Lindie visiting the town of Kimberley playing with

lion cubs and ziplining through the beautiful Waterberg mountains The whole family went

to the Elephant sanctuary

Leslie and Salls Safari We were very pleased to meet Claude Leslie from Florida in 2016 at the DSC show in

Dallas After a few months of correspondence Claude let us know that he and his son

Travis would be coming over to hunt with us We were thrilled when Claude let us know

that his friends Mike and Georgia Salls would also be joining Mike and Georgia are the

owners of Weather Rock Ranch in Robert Lee Texas

The hunters all took down some really great plains game and Georgia even fulfilled a

lifelong dream of taking a serval



Claude and Travis were on the hunt for plains game and the father and son duo did some

absolutely outstanding hunting

Claude hunted a beautiful kudu duiker and zebra

Claude additionally took down an impala a warthog and a springbuck



Travis similarly also shot kudu duiker and zebra Travis kudu is a real beauty and is

going to look fantastic in his trophy room at home



Travis also took an impala warthog and 2 springbuck



Mike and Georgia run Weather Rock Ranch in Texas where they do a lot of hunting for

Trophy Whitetails Rio Grande Turkeys and Exotics We were really honoured they picked

Somerby to hunt with being outfitters themselves

Mike hunted some regular plains game including impala gemsbuck and springbuck

Mike also took down an absolutely splendid kudu and a zebra




Georgia hunted some great plains game as well as a magnificent sable and a serval and

jackal

The smaller plains game that Georgia hunted consisted of a springbuck blesbuck and



bushbuck

Georgia took down this beautiful sable as well



The hunters did some night hunting where Georgia hunted a pesky jackal and after moving

on to the Mpumalanga province she took down an elusive serval Congratulations on

these great trophies Mike and Georgia

Schroeder 50th Anniversary Safari We were honoured to welcome our good friend Ray Schroeder and his wife Cindy for a

safari to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Ray and Cindys friendsNorval and

Linda Spielman were also celebrating this milestone and the two couples brought over five

more couples to mark this momentous occasion Mike and Linda Peterson Tom and

Marlene Simpson Bob and Cheryl Saathoff Daryl and Pam Veatch and Rick and Elaine

Toland

The couples did some hunting and a lot of sight-seeing They first visited the Western

Cape before moving on to the Limpopo They also took a sight-seeing trip to the Kruger

National Park and the Petersons and Simpsons even went on to visit Zimbabwe Botswana

and Namibia



The whole group at the Crocodile Bridge Gate at the Kruger National Park

The couples did a whole bunch of different activities The men hunted a few animals each

and also did some sight seeing with their wives

Ray hunted a beautiful gemsbuck red hartebeest and black wildebeest



Bob hunted a majestic Eastern Cape Kudu a gemsbuck and a gorgeous nyala

Mike kept it short and sweet hunting an impala and a blesbuck



Tom also hunted an Eastern Cape kudu as well as a lovely gemsbuck

Rick took down an impala blesbuck and a warthog



Daryl did some cull hunting and Norval shot a really nice kudu Pam also shot a beautiful

gemsbuck



The ladies took some great day trips visiting the elephant sanctuary ostrich farm and the

beautiful little coastal town of Mossel Bay They also visited Cango Wildlife a farm focused

on conservation of endangered species where they saw cheetahs leopards lions bats

snakes and even a foreign wallaby At the ostrich farm while feeding the ostriches one of

the sneaky birds snatched Cheryls sunglasses right off of her face Ostriches have a

fondness for anything shiny



The Petersons and the Simpsons took a day off to visit the vineyard and do a wine tasting

with Lindie

After wrapping up the Western Cape portion of their safari the entire group went for a

sight-seeing tour in the Kruger National Park where they were lucky enough to spot the

entire Big 5 As any South African or experienced tourist can tell you not every visitor to

the park is so fortunate
