Editorial

OH WOW. We finally did it. End of week 7, the last week. Yay. Whoo. It’s so close I can taste it, but it’s not going to be that easy, I have two massive as-signments taunting me this week, god damn, just thinking about them makes my head hurt and my toes itchy.

Then exam weeks for most, I wish you the best of luck and remember to hide cheat sheets in every orifice you have.

Next session is going to be huge, as I have quite a few things in the works, but you will have to wait and see what they are so make sure you pick up the first edition next session.

Remember to submit stuff dur-ing the break so we can make the first edition back a big one.

I’d also like to take this time to Welcome our new Rivcoll SRC President, Hannah Milnes, who is taking over from Jack Bar-wick.

Goodluck Hannah, hope no one stabs you in the back.

If you don’t know who she is, she is the lovely lady on the this weeks front cover.

Enjoy the break, be safe and I’ll see you all out front of the Hun-gappa stand next session.

Hi there!

My name is Hannah and I have recently been elected to be your new Rivcoll SRC President! I am super excit-ed to take on this role, and cannot wait to get started.

First off, a little about my-self: I’m a second year Ra-diography student, I live down in good ol’ Nappy Alley, my hometown is Al-stonville (North Coast of NSW) and I have an un-healthy passion for apple juice.

I would just like to say a quick thank you to Jack Barwick, our previous Riv-coll President for his sup-port throughout this presi-dential change. I hope I can do you proud :)

During my term as Presi-dent I aim to help out as many people as I possibly can, and to help this Uni-versity become a happier, fun-filled place! I put it to you, the CSU Wagga Wag-ga student body, to come forward and suggest ways in which we can improve our campus.

A New EraI would like you all to know that I am a very approach-able person, and I would be so happy for you to come to me with suggestions, or just post them on the Riv-coll Facebook page, (add us as a friend, just search Rivcoll SRC)! I really would like to explore more ways, in which we can spruce up this campus, so please, suggest away.

Anytime you feel like you need some help, do not hesitate to come to the Riv-coll office, located in build-ing 20 right next to Eat @ 20. Even if you just want some space or a place to relax you are more than welcome. Again, I am so thankful for this opportunity and with the help and support of my Rivcoll team I am looking forward to seeing the re-sults of our efforts. So ex-cited to meet you all, (I fre-quent Friday unwind and Wednesday night events so you can probably catch me there).

Yours truly,

-Hannah Milnes.President, Rivcoll [email protected]

versity and also includes the opportunity to apply for a one-off large grant.

Two Examples of 2012 Successful Sustainability Projects

Student Application: Students from the Kerr Sustainability Cottage (KSC), community produce gardens, at the

Albury-Wodonga campus were successful in securing a $5,000 grant last year to assist in purchasing tools for the produce gardens and to further promote its initiatives and increase

community involvement.

Staff Application: Dr Bill Anscombe, of the School of Humanities and Social Science, applied for a grant to fund ‘cultural change through carbon offsets’. The project aimed to pro-socially model environmen-tally responsible global citizenship through carbon offsetting the international travel of a CSU

Social Work facilitated two week study abroad program. The project promoted sustainability in higher education and engaged staff and students through a commitment to environmentally

responsible citizenship at the local and global levels.

CSU Reddies Rugby Club Vs Ag College

Weekend Wrap Another week down and another successful week for the reddies with 2 out of the three grades that travelled to Tumut getting up over the home team! Third grade’s match, whilst it was only played as an exhibition was entertaining and great to see alot of Tumut old boys and even ex-reddies playing. Seconds and firsts got up in games that could be described as battles.

A very physical game that was highlighted by some of the biggest hits of the year…too bad the biggest one was on Ranga. Brent Merrit and Mitch Fealy both crossed for

two tries a piece finishing some classy backline moves and strong ball-running. Busby crossed for his own 5 pointer after beating 6 Tumut blokes from 40 out. After a slow

start and the boys being down by 8 points to start the game, the mighty Redmen finally clicked into gear and had a handy lead by halftime.

A long and grinding second half saw the scoring dry up and Tumut cross the line late for a nice try. Highlight of the game was no doubt Ryan Ranga Towely Ribs Prior bombing a certain try after dropping a chest past from Punter and getting cut in half by a 50kg winger. Last reports have come in saying that Rangie is still on the ground in Tumut

gasping for breath. Plenty to work on for Coota this week, but some big performances from Sterlo, Buzz, Merro, Pete and Barnes put the boys in good stead.

FIRST GRADE: REDDIES 33 Def. Tumut 15

SECONDS: REDDIES 14 Def. Tumut 10In possibly the most aggressive game any of the boys have ever seen, the Redmen

defended for about 95% of the game. Defending including tackling, ducking, weaving and not throwing any punches, but copping plenty of them. Steak Smith’s face was ten-derised in a way that would make any butcher proud, Bowie was proudly the third man

in (didn’t throw a punch, possibly copped a few and promptly red carded), Sutty attacked old mate’s kidneys and was the subject of mistaken identity to receive his second yel-low card of the season. Not much else happened unfortunately. Tries to Rebel and Jas early on, with Hermes’ boot being the game decider. Gotta love super 2s. Big games

from Richo (biggest hit of the game), Quinny, Marty Jones and Fridge gave us the win.

Weekend Wrap

THIRSTY THIRDS: Tumut (A FEW) Def. REDDIES (NOT AS MUCH)

Exhibition match that didn’t mean any points for the competition. Just as well because the Tumut old boys put on an exhibition and the Reddies had no match for their strong running and passing game. Strong games from Smugster, new recruit Brad and Connor

gave the Thirds some hope; but there is plenty to work on ahead of a big test against the only team from Hay this weekend.

The Redchicks are enjoying their first season of Southern Inland Women’s 7’s Rugby. The girls have put up some strong wins already this season and are enjoying the atmo-sphere both on and off the field. New players are always welcome and can email Coach

Andy at [email protected] if you’re keen for a run!

REDCHICKS

If anyone is keen for a game or a bit of social fun visit: http://reds.rugbynet.com.au/ for more information and come join in.

Here’s to this weekend against Coota!
