Meet new people Boost job prospects
Feel useful Time for a change?
Make a difference Be part of something
Improve your health Gain skills, experience
and wellbeing and training
How old do I have to be? Most opportunities are aimed at over 18’s. Contact us or go to: www.volunteeringkirklees.org.uk for information for under-18s.
What can I offer? Time, enthusiasm and skills. Everyone has something to offer (even if you don’t think you have). And it’s also good to think about what you’d like to get out of being a volunteer.
How Volunteering Kirklees can help - we can:
Help you decide on the kind of volunteering you may want to try
Provide information on the wide range of available opportunities
Give you details (names, addresses, phone numbers) of organisations looking for volunteers and explain more about their work
Give ongoing support, such as help with appointments, filling out forms and training opportunities Outline what you should expect as a volunteer / what is expected of you
Text you the details of the latest opportunities via our Texting Service
Will there be an interview? Maybe. Some organisations have set processes (application form, references, trial periods etc) others may not. Roles which involve working with vulnerable people (children, young people, people with disabilities and some older people) often require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (a criminal records check). Having a criminal record does not mean that you can’t volunteer. It all depends on the nature of your conviction, how recent it was and the kind of volunteering you’re interested in.
Contact us for more advice.
Can volunteering help me to get paid work? There are no guarantees, but building up your skills and having hands-on experience are all positives. Being a volunteer will give you recent references. In a recent survey 94% of employers said they believed that volunteering can add to skills and 73% said they would prefer a candidate with volunteering experience over one without.
How do I keep up with the latest opportunities? Check our website www.volunteeringkirklees.org.uk or find us on Facebook www.facebook.com/volcentrekirklees and Twitter @vckirklees. We can also send free texts with the latest opportunities direct to your mobile.

1. Advice, information and support roles
Getting helpful advice and information can make a huge difference to people’s lives. Life events like bereavement, developing a health condition, getting older or becoming a carer can leave people struggling with choices.
These roles suit people who enjoy communicating, are good at one to one and can see things from someone else’s point of view. Most organisations offer training and ongoing support. Some roles will require you to visit people at home.
