For generations, lodge has been in our family vocabulary. Tuesday night
meant my Dad was studying or doing secret work. I knew it was secret
because he never let me go with him, and I ALWAYS went with my Dad if
I asked. One of my Dad's friend's ask How to be one? And then my Dad
became a teacher. He became a teacher, not just a learner, not only in his
secret work, but he exemplified the characteristics of a Mason in his life.
Fast forward until 1972. I met a man from a masonic family. Some of our
conversation was, Oh, your Dad is a Mason? Yes, well, mine is too. We
dated several years and after asking permission to marry, my Dad
suddenly passed away. I round up marrying that son of a Mason and after
our second child came along, he asked, and became a learner in the craft.
Skip forward again to 2016, and today we have several of our personal
family members here, as well as our Masonic family members, celebrating
your installation during the week of our 40th anniversary.
We know the lodge only makes good men better, as well as the community
they serve in.
It is with pleasure and love that I present this gavel to you, my friend of 44
years, my mate of 40 years, and pray you strive to represent the legacy for
this lodge and our families. May you lead these men to be the best in our
Humble community.

OPENING ODE
Anchors Away
Blue of the mighty deep, gold of God’s great son. Let these our
colors be till all of time done, done, done, done. On the seven
seas we learn Star’s stern call.
Faith, courage, service true, with honor, over honor, over all.
CLOSING ODE
“We have an Anchor”
We have an anchor that keeps the soul, steadfast and sure while
the billows roll. Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.
7
WELCOME ODE
Welcome to our chapter, we have need of you.
Help us serve the Master, in the work we do.
Join our chain of friendship, where each heart is true
Every heart rejoices, while we welcome you.
ALTAR ODE
Bless be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.
PATRIOTIC ODE
God bless America, Land that I love
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above
From the mountains, To the prairies,
To the ocean, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

CHAPTER ROOM COURTESIES
Although our Order is not an ancient order, many other lessons, traditions and
symbols of the Order of the Eastern Star are drawn from the ancients. Our
Chapter room is dedicated to God and His purposes.
We think of God above us; therefore a hat or head covering would be a symbol
of something between God and us.
We should meet our Sisters and Brothers with an open hand of friendship.
Wearing gloves would be a symbol of something between our friends and us.
Sisters do not sit with legs crossed, but as a gentlewoman, with feet flat on the
floor or slightly crossed at the ankles. Ladies, please, slacks, jeans and extremely
short dresses are never appropriate for any meeting, regular or called.
Our prepared Altar symbolizes the spirit of God in the human heart. It is place
in the center of the labyrinth between the Star points for protection.
When the Bible is open on the Altar, it creates a Holy area between the Altar and
the East. The Worthy Matron draws her strength and wisdom from the light of
God’s word and this beam of light would be broken if anyone walked between
the Altar and her station. Therefore, no one is permitted to pass between the
Altar and the East, except in ritualistic ceremonies.
The Reverent Attitude is loosely clasped hands and is assumed during the Altar
ceremonies. The Attitude of Prayer is loosely clasped hands with bowed head
and is assumed during prayer and is held until the response.
During all Altar ceremonies, all members will stand and face the Altar.
