C1) Cases of our Human Rights History Description:

Create and promote spaces of Memory within a platform that contains information of the cases in

manners of Human Rights violations focused in South America and México, with the main objective

of paying tribute to the victims of these regrettable events. The set of “cases” is going to be worked

according to the order shown in the Operative Work Plans (POTs). The informatics’ contents of each of the

“cases” and of the respective victims, are going to be the result of a joint work for memory construction

jointly together with the victims (if alive), and/or family members and/or other related to the advents. The

team of Human Rights Memory is committed on identifying, contact and invite the affected ones to

participate on the project. Initially it is going to be presented with the usage of the technologies of smart

codes and augmented reality on common use objects, in order to motivate the informatics

competences and exemplify the usage of these leading technologies with benefits as a sustainable content

of historic memory and to ease the generational transmission of this, looking to raise awareness and the

non repetition of the events and to promote social sensitization. The application of this technology will

illustrate scenarios of the real world, virtually through multimedia contents on the platform and with

interaction that will help in the preservation of the Memory, the diffusion and the construction of content of

our History.

The Access to the information of a “case” of the set can be done through the access by the website

(www.humanrightsmemory.org) or directed from the scanning of an smart code installed in signals in

places related to the events, or in printed material for commemorative campaigns or activities for bringing

memory, or directed contents form objects with augmented reality codes displaying information from the

platform. The public will have the option as well to acquire through our main website, objects of common

usage as mugs, glass-holders, workbooks, handles or other with image – codes of augmented reality that

will take display information about each specific case.

The information on the codes will be available in several languages (Spanish, Portuguese, English,

French, German and Italian), and each “case” will consist of several sections of multimedia formats and

other technological tools that promote the knowledge of the events. These sections of information consist

of: Description of the events on audio and text format; promotional video teaser that explains generally the

events and that at the same time, promotes a more detailed video of the information of the occurrences

using animated art and as a full documentary with cases-chapters, available on paid download websites

and platforms as iTunes, Amazon, Netflix; Spaces for the Memory with the biographies of the victims

constructed on the joint work with victims (if alive) and/or family members or directly affected ones from the

events; Billboards of promotion of events and commemoration activities of the cases and/or in manners of

Human Right´s promotion; Interactive Maps on Google Maps with other allocation of other related places

and other memory spots; section for research with search engines, under specialized and specific filters as

art, memory, legal information, etc.

The process of construction of Memory and the diffusion of these contents is done following the order of

an annual or six month plan according to the POT as a set of cases to develop for an specific country.

Currently when the access is done through the main website, the process of surfing within the information

is being adjusted with interactive maps, search engines and results from lists of cases according to search

engine results in order to provide a more dynamic and easier way in the loading of the information and the

development of the cases of an specific POT. The access to the case can be done through the main

website; QR codes on objects or memory spots (squared codes as the bar codes which direct the user to

specific hyperlinks in the platform); and Augmented Reality (image – codes that display multimedia

information combining interactively multimedia elements with the screen displayed by the cameras on

smart phones, tablets and other devices.)

C2) Communities for Peace and Progress Description

This output consists of a section in the main website where information is digitalized and evolves on

interactive maps with of the Memory, constructed and fed by the same members of communities affected

by the scourge of violence and armed conflict in Colombia and then to be replicated in other countries of

the Region. This is a process of memory construction in which the contents are presented in interactive

maps with sections divisions where the content feed, appearance and characteristics are result of the

execution of initiatives for the construction of memory through campaigns inviting the members of the

communities to compile history and construct their own memory, considering the low indexes of access

and usage of technologies in the affected regions promoting and approaching the platform as a channel to

start to built their own historical memory. These campaigns are organized under categories as memory

construction, requests from the affected ones (re-directed to entities and organizations on charge of these

fields) and the call for compilation for art for the memory. This is mainly focused on extending the call to

the next generations in order that teenagers and kids participate and get ownership about their own history

and on the process of generational transmission of historic memory.

The execution of the work on the Regions is defined on Work Plans for the Affected Communities (POCM)

and the work consists of several steps that start with a in-situ visit where we develop a workshop for the

presentation of the Human Rights Memory Platform, about scientific content of the importance of

constructing Memory, the generational transmission of memory and about commemorative events; this is

followed by the travel within the cities, municipalities and/or town hills for sharing experiences with the

victims, communicators and institutions for the representation of the victims; allowing that the compilation

of multimedia material will impulse to an initiative of memory construction, and the execution of a joint work

between all of the stakeholders, and by this, proceed to open the call to society to participate in the

memory construction. The order of the Work Plan shown on the POCM is flexible according to the

availability that the Local, National and International Institutions provide.

It has to be highlighted that considering the low access and usage of technologies on the affected zones, it

is recognized and promoted a response to the need of taking actions that raise awareness to the same

members of the communities of the importance of the Memory. “Building memory is an act that must take

action and Memory construction is a process and it is not just digitalizing and displaying contents on a

screen that will not derive in any effect to society”. Human Rights Memory, develops a process in which

Human Rights Memory Warehouse

“Knowing the Human Right´s Memory is knowing our History”

the main participant is the society and the work involves the usage of technologies and the usage of

virtual space on our platform for the creation and the reception of the memory spaces of the own history.

Then the call is delivered jointly together with other strategic allies (Public Institutions, Victims

representations, communicators and Human Rights Organizations). This call for the Memory

construction, the participation and the social integration, invites the members of a community to

participate, share and diffuse contents for the promotion of the campaign, in which through physical ballot

boxes, placed on strategic places, we give the option to compile information of all of the sectors looking to

take actions in the field of memory generation.

These open calls have the objective of teaching to present and future generations (teenagers and kids)

that through the compilation of written material: texts, drawings and other artistic languages, the memory

can be used to promote peace and development to the region. There are also some other categories for

the society as the compilation of literary and artistic works for the memory construction of the victims

and/or addressing the request of the affected ones in manners of general inquiries looking for psychosocial

and legal support, in these cases, it is a extended effort with the group of stakeholders, defining specific

deadlines for the promotion of the call for participation, the installation, openings, and the conclusion of the

calls for compiling memory. The next step consists in the training to the communicators that will manage

the section of the region, the compilation and digitalization of the information, image and appearance

adjustments to the platform, redirections of the requests done by society and to publish the contents. A

mid- term goal is being evaluated of each 2 years or after at least 3 calls for memory construction, have

enough information to organize a produce a physical book and eBook that promotes the collective work in

the memory construction, from the same members of the communities to be delivered to the youngest

generations with the reception of the own History as educational and informative contents and material

that will be delivered to the respective Cultural and Educational Centers on the Region.

These initiatives have shown results from visits to zones affected by the armed conflict, where workshops

have been done, presenting the platform, in manners of Memory and generational transmission, first with

the compilation of contents and the exchange of experiences with the victims and communicators, followed

by the creation of a base material to built the structure of the initiatives for the open call, the processes of

alliance with the other stakeholders, and the training of the members involved, reaching a dynamic and

ownership of the platform and of the information that show the good usage of technologies by the same

members of the communities.

This component was structured and has been in practice from the experience with the field trip (Bajo

Magdalena, Colombia with the Program “Programa Nuevas Tierras de Paz”, of the Corporación Paz y

Desarrollo del Bajo Magdalena, the Departamento de Prosperidad social (DPS) and the European Unión)

that took place at the beginnings of the month of September 2014. This methodology is going to be

replicated on the workshops of Memory construction of subsequent zones on the plans, transmitting the

application of these through the (POCM). The promotion of this output, visit and the participation to the

section on the platform is going to be done through videos adjusted on AR codes on handicraft articles

(OARs4) that will display video trailers about the work done by Human Rights Memory on the specific

affected region. After the video, the device will be redirected to the map-section on the main website that is

going to be available as Communities for Peace and Progress within the platform.
