Who we areWe are a non-profit, Charitable Organization (NGO) registered under Govt. of Tamil Nadu. H.E.L.P (“Human Education and Liberation for Poor”) established as an Organization in 2004.

We address the desperate need to save underprivileged children and youth in the rural districts of Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, South India from prostitution, Bonded Labor & unskilled employment and to give them the Employable Skills they need to better their livelihood and that of their families.

Vision: To Provide underprivileged children with an opportunity to have access to basic education & employable skills in order to make them self reliant thereby contributing towards the productivity and growth of the nation.

Mission : Our Mission is to provide basic education to underprivileged children to identify & develop inner latent talents & skills.

Target Group : Age Group : 3 years to 17 years.

Criteria for Selection : -Less Educated deprived children. -Parentless/ single parent child

Who we are……..

Evening School at Koliyankulam…..

Location: Radhapuram Taluk, Tirunelveli District,

Tamilnadu, INDIA

Commencement Date: March 1, 2003

Target Group: Parentless Children between 5-17 years

(SC/ST/Dalit)

No. Of Beneficiares: 42 Children

They are a vulnerable group.

Many of these children have lost their parents.

They are forced into the Flesh trade.

Most of them are meritorious and very interested in education.

Some parents are disabled. They have no choice but to send their children for child labor because of low income in their

families.

If nobody cares about these children , they will be force to become bonded labor, Sex workers, anti-Social elements.

Problems Statement of the evening school children..

HELP India has adopted 42 such children

Providing Free Tuition, Educational Materials, clothes, food, motivation & inspiration.

Provide Skill Training, Playing Materials, Exposure &Career Guidance.

The aim of the project is moving forward rapidly to forestall the tragedy of these children falling into the hands of those who would easily exploit them.

We at HELP are in short of clothes, books, desks, stationery, teachers, money to buy food, etc. and are eagerly looking for resources.

What we do at Evening School…

HELP is running free tuition centers at rural villages of SC/ST villages for the children of beady rolling , agricultural community. In each center there will be 20 to 35 children are studying.

As of now, the centers are running in - Adangarkulam- Kootapuli, - Vadakkankulam - Koliyankulam.

"Before coming to school, I rarely get to eat good food . I used to get food from nearby house where my mom works. I don't like that food much as it is not fresh. ”When I was 7 years old my father abandoned us and that time I was very sad and in spite of telling him to come back he didn’t. He married again. I and my mummy were upset. We cooked in the house after 15 days. From then, my mummy is doing domestic work and feeding me. My mom can’t send me to school as she is having health problems and is not able to meet our bread. I was also about to stop school and go to work to help my mom. At that time, HELP Evening school Madam & Sir came to my house and convinced us of the importance of going to school. They are helping me now and I am going to school and have got 1st rank in my class.. My tuition teacher has helped me a lot in scoring good marks. ”The most important thing in my life is to take care of my mummy because she don’t have anybody to take care of her and I too. She sells idly in the street and feeds me. “ In my regular school, if I have a problem, they don’t really care. As I go for flower picking in the morning ,I sometime get late and they beat me for not doing homework and coming late. But in the evening school, teacher Hema never beats me even if I come late. She asks me the problem and helps me to do the home work in the evening school. She tells me that I am a good student that as I am working and studying, I will become a successful woman. I love her as well as the evening school. ”My father is a drunkard,He never goes to work.He picks up fight with my mummy for money to drink most of the time and beats her. Even if there is no food in the house to eat, he takes away money from my mummy who cleans vessels of nearby houses for a livlihood. Every time my father used to fight with my mummy, I could not study in my house. I could not get notebooks as my mummy could nor afford it.. Evening school is helping me with all my needs. Brinda teacher is helping me to solve Maths & teach me English. I am studing well and getting 3rd rank. I will get 1st rank soon

HELP at Maharashtra…..

Objective of Maharashtra Chapter :

To establish “ Child Development Centers” in urban slums/rural areas of Maharashtra State & to provide

access to basic education to underprivileged children.

What we do……

All our activities are exclusively targeted towards children and their parents. We select children without any discrimination based on gender, caste, religion, political affiliation or language.

5. WOMEN LITERACY PROGRAM ( WLP)

• The Pre-primary Education (Balwadi) program to provide proper development to vulnerable and underprivileged children, primarily in the slum communities of Mumbai & Thane Dist. The Balwadi program focuses on pre-primary education of underprivileged children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. The program’s objective is to provide proper development during these crucial years and prepare children for formal schooling, making them less likely to drop out at a later age.

• These underprivileged children of poor parents working as domestics are likely to drop-out. This program encourages to develop school-going habits among the children from the beginning. This strengthens the foundation for future education of the children.

PRE-PRIMARY EDUCATION(PPE)…..

• In the community where we work there are a number of out-of-school children. This non formal education is greatly aimed to mainstream them to the regular school system. Generally only 20 to 30 percent of these children continue going to school. The rest are left with no choice but to resort to child labour.

• They have to work to survive. The school hours do not suit them. Apart from that,the public school system’s teaching standard has gone abysmally low. It does not hold any attraction for them. And the fact is, the children these schools turn out are half-baked and ill-equipped to join the middle and high schools. They swell the army of drop-outs. Non-Formal Education Classes – mainly focused for children who cannot attend school because they have to work.

• These classes are for out-of-school children with a special focus on basic literacy skills, language , maths & basic lifeskills.

NON FORMAL EDUCATION (NFE)……

• The underprivileged school going children are helped in coping up with their schoolwork and provided with a better ambiance, care , teaching and facility which they do not have acess to. A quiet place with proper guidance makes all the difference.

• We also provide tuitions, school fees, uniforms and moral support to ensure that those children due to lack of resources & support at home do not drop out of main stream school. .

•TUITION & SKILL DEVELOPMENT ( TSD) …..

• Against the background of the patriarchal system of society, the women need special attention to ensure their development and participation in the decision making process at home, in the community and governance.

• This program emphasises the importance of education by training the uneducated mother of underprivileged children. Also to teach them basics of reading & writing, importance of saving & opening a bank account, financial management at home, etc.

• This program also give awareness of child education and

motivates the mother to support their children’s education.

WOMEN LITERACY PROGRAM ( WLP) ….

“Child Development Center” at

Bhiwandi( Start Date-Dec-15-2009)

The country's largest powerloom centre, some 50 kms from Mumbai , Maharashtra has 7.5 lakhs of the 17 lakh registered powerlooms in the country. The State government estimates that in Bhiwandi itself more than 40 lakh people are dependent directly or indirectly on the industry. A government ruling in 1971 set down minimum wages for workers, but rarely the workers are given the stipulated monthly salary of approximately Rs.3,000. Loom owners have exploited the situation where there is no dearth of labour to pay well below the minimum wage.

Most of the workers come from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. They come all the way due to lack of income from Agriculture or slackness in their nearby powerloom centers. The entire families of these workers residing in the above States are dependent on their incomes.

Bhiwandi community Background ……………

• A trade union activist working in the area says "Such is the desperation in Bhiwandi that you can pick up anyone off the road and he is willing to work on the powerloom for any amount.“

• “Bhiwandi's powerloom workers are like sugarcane in the juice machine. We are squeezed until we have nothing left to give.” Says Mohammed Munir, a powerloom worker

• He also says that four lakh workers in Bhiwandi, India's largest powerloom centre where around six lakh powerlooms operate 12 hours a day on an average for seven days a week, suffer the same fate.

-The children are forced to do moti or bead work by which they earn Rs.30 to 40 daily to support their family. Thus they are not send to school.

-Their parents are struggling to meet the family needs as they hardly earn Rs.3000 to 5000 per month with which they cannot make both their ends meet.

-Most of these parents never went to school in their life. They don’t know the importance of education.Thus. we have started our “ Child Development Center” at this community.

-We have adopted 30 children for the Free tuition program , 25 children who are not going to school under Non-Formal Education& 20 mothers of these kids under women literacy program.

-We will be starting pre-primary education soon for another 20 to 30 kids. All these kids are not having parents or are single parents child.

Future plan….( Maharastra, Thane & nearby Districts…)

-During the 1st 6 months we will be adopting 3 slums where 60 children will get benefit in a year in each slum (Center) . i.e. total 180 children per year.

-During the next 6 months we will be adopting 4 more slums where 60 children will get benefit in a year in each slum (Center) . ie total 240 children per year. We will cover 180+240=420 children in these 7 centers.

-In the Second Year we will be adopting 10 more slums where 60 children will get benefit in a year in each slum (Center) . i.e. total 600 children per year. We will cover 180+240+600=1020 children in these 17 centers.

-In the Third Year we will be adopting 13 more slums where 60 children will get benefit in a year in each slum (Center) . i.e. total 780 children per year. We will cover 180+240+600+780=1900 children at the end of 3 years in 30 centers.

• You can sponsor a “ child Development Center” cost about Rs.90,000 to 1,50000 per year which adopt 60 children.

• You can sponsor our activities any amount which will be used for “ child Development Center”

• You can sponsor teacher salary of Rs.36,000 per year.

• You can support with used computer, tailoring machine, furniture.

• You can teach our kids of music, yoga, math, english, etc. You can volunteer on resource mobilization and networking.
