Read the first book in the New York Times bestsellingMaze Runner series, perfect for fans of The HungerGames and Divergent.

The Fault in Our Stars completely captivated me. I was cryingand then laughing and then crying again. I was attachedto the characters and I still am, months after reading thebook. John Green shows the reader sadness, love, hate, frightand confusion all in one paragraph through humor and thedeep connection with the characters that I still feel monthsafter reading the book. The Fault in Our Stars is absolutelymy favorite book. It is not just some cheesy romance with aperfect fairy tale ending but its different and it is a reminderthat life is not a perfect fairy tale. I hope never to be in thecharacters situation, but watching them go through suchtragedy was in its own way magical. - Stella, Atlanta

Looking for Alaska is far more than a coming of age story. With a boarding school as a backdrop, John Green exploresthe inner and outer worlds of teens struggling to adulthoodin a warm, serious, humorous, sometimes philosophical, yetalways accessible way. An amazing debut of a great voicefor the millennial generation. - Ed, Atlanta

Though hes only thirteen, Theodore Boone has spent moretime in the courtroom than almost anywhere else, and theresalways a new adventure waiting. After being falsely accusedof vandalism and theft, Theo is happy to nally be out of thehot seat, once more dispensing legal advice to friends andcommunity members, when an exciting new case demands

Rithmatists are humanitys only defenseagainst the Wild Chalklings. Having nearly overrun the terri-tory of Nebrask, the Wild Chalklings now threaten all of theAmerican Isles.

With characters as captivating as those in her interna-tionally bestselling novel Between Shades of Gray , RutaSepetys skillfully creates a rich story of secrets, lies, and thehaunting reminder that decisions can shape our destiny.

Magical realism, lyrical prose, and the pain and passion ofhuman love haunt this hypnotic generational saga. See anexclusive essay from Leslye Walton on the next page.

When I learned that The Strange and Beautiful Sorrowsof Ava Lavender had been selected as one of HudsonBooksellers 2014 Best Books for Summer, I couldnt helpbut wonder if the theme of ight had something to do withit. The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender is,after all, a book about a girl who was born with wings, yetcannot y. So it seems only tting that Ava Lavender wouldeventually nd her way to the airporta place wherepeople come to y.

I have this belief that everyonewhether theyre willingto admit it or not is a little bit infatuated with the possibilityof ying. As a child, I was both terri ed and enthralled by

the idea of it. I remember watching the animated version of Peter Pan withsuspended disbelief as the children soared around the edge of the nurseryceiling. I imagined myself beside them, my outstretched hands skimming thetops of the trees as I soared through the window and into the stars. At the time, the feeling of ight, the wind curling around my limbs, the jittery excitement ofwatching as the ground below me moved farther and farther away from myfeet, seemed not quite as impossible as it once had.

How many of us have climbed to the top of the jungle gym, swayed precari-ously from a tree branch, taken a mighty leap from the swing set; how manyof us believed, even if it was only for a mere second, that we were capable of

ight? It seemed so effortless, a simple question of merely going up instead ofdown. And perhaps, in a way, somewhere between that glorious second afterwe jumped and before we landed, we did y. Even if it was just for a second. But then we grew up and lost that delightful ability to suspend disbelief. Instead,we were gifted with things like logic and reason which state, in dull, monotonevoices, that people can only y with the help of a machine.

    And yet.

And yet.Our infatuation with ight remains. It is an unstoppable force, an excited squealthat rips through the monotony, reminding us of that one miraculous momentwhere we de ed all good sense and sound judgment and we ew.

Its clich to admit, but perhaps our interest in ying also explains our interest inreading. As the saying goes, reading takes you places. And ight, like reading, allows us to see things from a new perspective, in ways that perhaps we neverwere able to before. And perhaps this is whyregardless of our agethatfeeling of wanting to y never leaves

us. It is more than the mere act itself, soaring through the air with the great-est of ease. It is the freedom to visit thefantastic, a wish to encounter some-thing new and unlikely. It is a craving, one we cannot explain, for certainexperiences, certain sights and soundsand tastes. It is the desire to do theimpossible.

It is the desire to y.
