Run against terrorism evokes good response in Hubli

HUBLI: Doctors, lawyers, industrialists, technicians, ex-servicemen, lecturers, students, children, senior citizens and physically challenged persons participated in “Hubballi Marathon”, a run against terrorism, organised here on Sunday by students of the BVB College.
14-km run In all, 3,500 people participated in the 14-km run that was flagged off at the college premises. The total prize money was Rs. 1.25 lakh. Athletes from Bangalore, Mysore, Bijapur and other districts participated in the event.
Principal of the college Ashok Shettar administered oath to the participants to fight against terrorism.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, MP Pralhad Joshi, former Minister Basavaraj Horatti, MLA Virabhadrappa Halaharavi, MLC Mohan Limbikai, Mayor Viranna Savadi and S.I. Munavalli, Shri Ashok Balasubramaniam ZBM-Airtel flagged off the marathon.
Boys’ category Siddappa Shivanur of JSS College in Dharwad, who contested in the boys’ category, was the first to complete the race. His younger sister Renuka came second in the girls’ category, completing the race closely behind Smita Channaviraiah of Mysore.
In the men’s category, Shahnavaz P.M. won the first prize. Nanda Kulkarni bagged the first prize in the women’s category.Among the 18 senior citizens, who participated in the event, 71-year-old Sangappa G. Vajramatti of Jamakhandi won the first prize.
The oldest among them, 75-year-old Nanjappa Hosamani from Jamakhandi was given a special prize. Sunilkumar C. Bidralli won the first prize in the physically challenged category.
As many as 1,000 participants completed the 14-km marathon.
A sixth standard student from Hubli, Basavaraj Aihole, who is physically challenged, completed marathon in his tricycle.

Shri Ashok Balasubramaniam ZBM-Airtel flagged off the marathon with the following chief guests, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, MP Pralhad Joshi, former Minister Basavaraj Horatti, MLA Virabhadrappa Halaharavi, MLC Mohan Limbikai, Mayor Viranna Savadi and S.I. Munavalli.
