The Ma-ori Trade Training Programme allows you to study towards both the Certifi cate in Trade Technolgy (Carpentry) (Level 3) and the Certifi cate in Tikanga Ma-ori (He Papa Tikanga) (Level 3).

Both programmes are integrated to include theory, practice and work experience within a noho marae and wananga environment incorporating te reo and tikanga.

CERTIFICATE IN TRADE TECHNOLOGY (CARPENTRY) (LEVEL 3)

This programme will teach you about the correct and safe use of hand tools, portable electric tools and woodworking machines common to construction sites. You will use these skills to work on full-size building projects. A Level 1 First Aid Certifi cate, which is required for legal access to an increasing number of construction sites, also forms part of this programme.

One day a week will be available for work experience and on successful completion of the programme you will be able to seek a training agreement (apprenticeship) with a builder.

CERTIFICATE IN TIKANGA MAORI (HE PAPA TIKANGA) (LEVEL 3)

This programme will develop your understanding and appreciation of the Ma-ori world view and how it functions within New Zealand and international societies.

You will learn how to apply the concepts in your home, workplace and community. You will also learn about iwi development and study basic te reo Ma-ori.

ENTRY CRITERIA

Open entry, although students must demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success.

To meet legal and health requirements, candidates must be physically able to carry out the practical components of the programme.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT

This programme has been developed in collaboration with The Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust (WRLT). WRLT will provide work experience on Waikato Tainui Marae for the programme participants as well as fi nancial assistance for registered Waikato Tainui tribal members.
