To help you ght it in the workplace we have established six innovative cancer checks which together cover 85% of all cancer incidence. These screening services are not available through the NHS, which in most cases only has the resources to investigate after symptoms become evident. With the support and endorsement of six leading cancer experts (one for each cancer area) HealthScreen UK is the leading provider of awareness resources and early detection services for the six most widespread cancers. We have identified in excess of 100 previously undetected cancers and work with all major insurance companies, which means we understand how best to look after your employees. This is a multiple award-winning service – and a major employee benefit that can also save lives. What we do Raising awareness Lives can be saved simply by making people aware of the risks and symptoms. We can oer presentations, dedicated websites, national or international campaigns and many other innovative interactive solutions to ensure that your colleagues are aware of signs and symptoms of common cancers. Early detection Cancer is increasing with speed of an epidemic: in the UK one in three people now get cancer of one type in their lifetime, and cancer charity Macmillan estimates this will rise to almost one in two by 2020. If these are not identified early, the mortality rate will also continue to rise – but together we can take positive action to increase early detection of cancers. Key facts There are over 200 cancers, but six simple checks cover 85% of all incidence The number of cancer claims is low (<2%) but accounts for an estimated 20%+ of corporate customers’ healthcare costs 331,000 people in the UK are diagnosed every year – 910 every day From 2020 onwards 47% of all Britons will get cancer over a lifetime More than 13,000 cancers a year are occupational (work-related) Shift work can increase risk of certain cancers by up to 50% checks will cover 85% of all incidence 331,0000 people diagnosed with cancer - 910 every day From 2020 of all Britons will get cancer in their life time >13,000 cancers are occupational cancer (work-related) 47% Occupational cancer – the overview

Testimonials

“The consultant said it would have eventuallyformed into a lump, and it could have been a fewyears before it was found, during which time itcould have spread to other parts of my body. Iwas in shock as this was so unexpected. I couldn’ttake it in.

“I feel so very lucky that my cancer wasdiagnosed very early on, and I dread to thinkwhat could have happened if I had not had theBreastHealth UK screening at work whichresulted in me having the biopsy, it could soeasily have gone undiagnosed for a lot longer.”

Marisa, who lives in Newcastle, had alumpectomy on 1st December – less than twomonths after her BreastHealth UK check -followed by three weeks of radiotherapy. She hada lymph node removed too, and was relieved tolearn that the cancer had not spread there too.

A biopsy of Marisa’s right breast also showedearly signs of cancer in situ, which herConsultant will carefully be monitoring for signsthat the cancer does not develop further.

“I feel !ne now and am back at work full time as apersonal assistant. I really urge women to takeadvantage of cancer screening on o!er in theworkplace because, like me, they may feel totally"ne, but be unaware that their health could

seriously be at risk. I feel fortunate in havingemployers who take the health and wellbeing oftheir sta! seriously and provide cancer screeningdetection for us.

“It has been an horrendous year for me, I stillthink about it every day, but I count my blessingsand am so thankful that I had the breast cancerscreening check and that the cancer wasdiagnosed early on.

“I strongly urge other women to do so as well, and to take advantage of cancer awarenessprogrammes o"ered in the workplace showingwomen how they should correctly examinethemselves and be aware of warning signs forthis terrible disease.”

Professor Gordon Wishart, Clinical Director,BreastHealth UK commented: “This is not anatypical event, as mammography is less sensitivein younger women or women with denser breasttissue. For this reason BreastHealth UK onlyadvocates mammography in women under 50 ifthey have an increased risk of breast canceraccording to an internationally validated riskassessment test.”

“In Marisa’s case it was the expert treatment of ahighly trained and experienced breast carespecialist which identi"ed the abnormality. Not

only was the abnormality discovered without theuse of mammography, but Marisa and all otherclients also received training in breast awarenessand self examination placing them in the "rstline of defence against breast cancer.”

“Companies like HP should be applauded forsupporting Department of Health initiatives todetect cancers early and save lives by earlyintervention. We hope that in future morecompanies will support early detectionprogrammes for cancer and o!er BreastCheckand other health checks to their sta!.”
