Constructing Better Health
3rd November 2011
There were 171 workers fatally injured in 2010/11, of which 50 were construction workers.
Approximately 1 worker per week – killed on a construction site!
The Problem………….
Health - Tip of the Iceberg?
Construction workers are the ‘SILENT VICTIMS’
Over 70 times more deaths in construction are health related and NOT due to a
workplace accident or injury
4 times more working days lost are workplace health and NOT safety related
4,500 Deaths a Year +
Industry Perception of OH

requirements• Lack of knowledge• Lack of ‘enforcement’• Inconsistency of approach• Supply chain complexity• Make-up of Industry
