Aerospace industry is a vital industry :

-It has a major role in the sustainable growth (Airbus has 10 years projects and 5

years orders with several thousands of ordered planes)

- It is the place for emerging and advanced technologies (like composites)

- Important area to push the technical development forward (robotics and

advanced material)

- Major resource for national defense (Stealth airplanes and Missiles)

Aerospace sector in Syria

Aerospace industry in Syria is almost inexistent

The major sector still the military aircrafts which is focused on the maintenance

and upgrading

The civil aerospace industry is controlled by the Syrian Air company which is the

only public actor in this sector with almost old equipment focused on

maintenance aspects.

Sectors like satellites and drones is completely absent in Syria

Future trends and challenges of aerospace sector

Aerospace industry will grow by about 25% during the coming 25 years

New developments will occur in drones (military and commercial)

New technologies will be developed to make environment Friendly engines (lower

consumption and using Organic-fuel)

Several new countries will enter the aerospace market (Brazil, China, Japan,

India, etc)

Development of new small size aircrafts (taxi airplanes)

Increase of use of composites in aircrafts

-Development of composites

This technology is a major key to reduce the weight of airplanes and to

reduce the fuel consumption

These technologies will be based on the use of carbon fibers and glass

fibers in Aerospace

Composites have also better fatigue and corrosion properties than metals

Composites can absorb better chocks (mainly by birds)

-Development of painting and coating materials

It was proved that the use of special smooth paints on an airplane could

reduce the fuel consumption

Paints represents about 2 tones on a commercial airplane. Any progress in

this area will reduce the cost of the paint and the weight of the airplane

Paints must be remade in regular way. New generation of paints will have

longer life time and by the end lower cost

-Development of new metallic alloys to improve the resistance against corrosion

and high temperature inside the aircrafts engines

-Ultra light alloys

-Development of Hyper- Aerothermodynamics

This technology is related to the development of new software systems able to

simulate the behavior of he aircrafts and the engines

This new generation of virtual tools allows to integrate new materials in aircrafts

and to reduce in significant way the development cycle

These tools allow also to study new requirements like reduction of vibrations and

noise

Hyper- Aerothermodynamics will make it possible to solve fluid mechanics

-Sensors technologies

The increasing use of electronic systems to control aircrafts needs the increasing

of the number of sensors

These new sensors could be also used to improve the maintenance and the

safety of the aircraft. They can predict the failure of some pieces and the

navigation problems (like detecting other aircrafts)
