Family Night Programs begin on Wednesday, October 9
Our Wednesday Family Night is designed around giving families a night to set aside in their week to
rejoin the church family and celebrate what has happened that week over a shared free meal and a
program for students Three Years Old - 8th Grade. As well as many new opportunities for adults. Our
family night meal is held in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 5:30pm, with food served until 6:15pm.
Youth Praise Team: Our Youth Praise Team is for students 2nd – 12th grade and will meet on
Wednesday evenings. We will learn new songs for Praise and Worship and talk about the
meanings of the songs and incorporate Bible verses as well as a time of prayer. Practices will be
held 6:00-6:30pm in the Red Carpet Room downstairs.
Kid Connection: Three Years Old – 3rd Grade will be exploring the Ten Commandments in the
fall session and The Lord’s Prayer throughout winter session. Each session is 8 weeks long.
Wednesday night activities include a Bible story, game, and a craft all connected to the theme of
the evening. Students gather in the basement from 6:30-7:30pm. This year we are hoping to
simultaneously run two groups (a younger group and an older group).
Grow: We are very excited to announce the launch of "Grow", our Wednesday night program for
4th and 5th graders. This program has been designed to meet this age group on their level instead
of trying to house them in another program that doesn't really meet their needs. Grow will be set
up like youth group and offer some more challenging material than Kid Connection. This year
students will be studying six different parables (one each month) and will meet on Wednesday
nights from 6:30-7:30pm.
Middle School & High School Youth Groups
Gravitate (6th – 8th Grade Youth Group) – Gravitate meets on Wednesday evenings in the Youth
Room downstairs 6:30-7:45pm. Our first meeting is October 9.
The Gathering (9th – 12th Grade Youth Group) – The Gathering meets on Sunday evenings in
the Youth Room downstairs from 6:00-7:30pm. Our first meeting is October 6.
With so many exciting dates coming up, be sure to check out the Student Ministries bulletin board
by the carport. Magnets with our Fall Calendar were placed in parents’ mailboxes. If you
didn’t received one or would like to share one with a friend, talk to Shaelee Van Der Stoep.
Adult Wednesday Night Opportunities
Do you ever feel like church life can have lots of activities but little fellowship? Adults have opportunities
on Wednesdays to get involved at HRC, to get connected to our community, and to get closer to God!
Faith and Music: This year, Kathy Weerstra will help facilitate discussions around some of our
favorite hymns and Christian songs. Learning the stories which shaped these anthems of the heart,
attendees of this class will spend time sharing stories about faith and life. Come join us this fall
from 6:30-7:15pm. You won’t want to miss out!
Reading the Bible with Pastor Adam: Pastor Adam will be in his office reading the Bible on
Wednesday nights. Anyone is welcome to join him. Together we will read through sections of
Scripture, asking questions along the way if needed. We will end in a time of prayer. This will take
place from 6:30-7:45pm.
Children’s Discipleship Update October 2019
. . . and we're off!
Off to a good start of our educational year that is. We've
seen some new faces and we're working on a new look in
our primary department. Stop on down in the next few
months and check it out. Thank you to all of you who are
helping out in all sorts of ways (teaching, donations,
cutting materials, and more!).
Now we're gearing up for a new year of Wednesday night
programming and still need some help. Please prayerfully
consider helping out. Our kids need to have as many
positive mentors and role models in their lives as possible.
Thank you!

A Crooked Cop, An Innocent Man
Tuesday, October 22 ~ 7:00pm
Hudsonville Reformed Church (3950 Highland Dr.)
Racial tensions had long simmered in Benton Harbor, a small city on the
eastern shore of Lake Michigan, before the day a white narcotics officer –
more focused on arrests than justice – set his sights on an innocent black man.
However, when Officer Andrew Collins framed Jameel McGee for possession of
crack cocaine, the surprising result was not a race riot but a transformative
journey for both men. Falsely convicted, McGee spent three years in federal
prison. Collins also went to prison a few years later for falsifying police reports.
While behind bars, the faith of both men deepened.
However, the story took its most unexpected turn once they were released,
when their lives collided again in a moment brimming with mistrust and anger.
The two were on a collision course – not to violence – but forgiveness. They
had both found God in prison, and He allowed them to find friendship with they
met each other. This is a story about reconciliation, forgiveness, and hope.
The Consistory Chronicles (September Elders Meeting & September Consistory Meeting)
In September the Elders moved the following individuals to the inactive list per their request or due to
prolonged absence and loss of communication: Tom & Joan Brower, Rebecca Cook, and Roger Lugten.
In September the Consistory received a recommendation from the Personnel Committee to hire Nicki
Boerman to the position of Financial Administrative Assistant. She will be taking over for Ann Eding who
served in this position for 12 years. Thank you Ann for everything!
The Consistory also spent time considering the new slate for Consistory nominations. A motion was
made and carried to move forward contacting those members concerning service as Elders and Deacons.
The financial reports are as follows:
o General Fund $14,116
o Building Fund $10,705
o Building Maintenance Fund $35,876
o Memorial Fund $18,924
o Love Fund $3,848
The next Elders meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 7, at 6:30pm.
The next Consistory meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 21, at 6:30pm.

Thank you from Love INC for
your support of the Back-to-School
Backpack Ministry!
This was an amazing backpack year!
God blessed us with many generous
donors who supplied 150 backpacks,
plus extra school supplies. Churches,
families and individuals contributed to
support the ministry. We were able to
give backpacks to many children and put
backpacks and extra supplies in Allegan,
Fennville and Pullman schools. It was a
privilege to deliver the supplies on your
behalf. Thank you so much for your
support of this valuable ministry! Your
hands, your feet – ministry happens
through you!
