THE XEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;OR,

The Life and Death of Worlds.

A CONFIRMATION OF THE DECLARATIONS OF MOSES,

THAT THE EARTH IS OF AN AQUEOUSORIGIN, VERSUS GEOLOGY AS TAUGHT

AT THE PRESENT TIME.

The origin of the world, seems to have been one

of the earliest questions which forced itself upon

the attention of mankind, demanding a solution.

Man above all other beings of the mundane crea-

tion, is possessed of reason; and such being true,

when he beheld the beauty, symmetry and harmony

peroacting the material creation, his reason natur-

ally carries him back to a great first cause, which

must have preceeded the universe of creation. Fromwhence came the earth ? and, of what material was

it made ? and, by whom was it created ? were ques-

tions that his reason would suggest; and the con-

templation of a cause so sublime, so grand, and so

omnipotent, beyond all comprehension, capable of

producing such stupenduous results as he beholds

in the creation, naturally suggest the existence of

a Deity—an ail-wise and supreme power as a crea-

tor, governor, and ruler of the universe. That this

is true, is proven beyond a doubt, by traditions that

have been handed down, from generation to genera-

Page 6: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

tion, by the fathers, among all races of men, in

every quarter of the globe. It is also remarkable

to note the similarity in these traditions, which

points to the fact, that they must have had a com-

mon origin, and that in the beginning, man's intuition

must have been exceedingly great, or else he must

have had access to the Deity, as the fountain head

of all knowledge. The Bible declares the latter to

be the case; that through impersonation, man is

not only made acquainted with his creator, but also

is made aware of his relation, and dependence upon

Deity, as a part of the material creation.

Moses, through inspiration, tells us that : "In

the beginning, God created the heavens and the

earth; that the earth was without form and void :

that darkness was upon the face of the deep, andthe spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."

The Koran, of the Mohammedans, substantially

agrees with the Bible, in the account of the crea-

tion, and one could be substituted for the other,

and the ideas would remain the same, with refer-

ence to the creation.

The Aztecs, the most ancient and highly civilized

tnation of North and South America, as well as the

anost populous, whose mechanical ingenuity, as

^manifest in ruined temples, cliff dwellings, and mar-

velously constructed mounds, abounding in the

United States, Central and South America, being

tthe wonder of the age in which we live, also have a

tradition given in the book of Quinches of Guate-

mala, not unlike the account given by Moses of the

creation of the world. The book reads, in speaking-

of the creation : "There was not yet a single man;not an animal; neither bird nor fishes; * *

only the chaos existed; the face of the land wasnot seen; there was only the silent sea and sky>,

* * nothing stood upright, for there was noth-ing that was. * * Those who fecundate, those

who give being are upon the waters, as a

glowing light. * * Thus they consulted while

the earth grew; thus, veriiy, the earth came into*

being: Earth, said they, and the earth existed;;

like a fog, like a cloud was its formation; and as-

huge fishes rise from the water, so rose the moun-tains." The book relates the creation, similar in<

order to Moses, and tells us, that Tepau Gucumatz;

formed and fashioned man; that they had neither

-

father nor mother; that they were simply beings-

called men; that they were a miracle, an enchant-

ment worked by the maker and moulder.

In the Institute of Menu, of the Hindoo, we find?

another account, agreeing substantially with the ac-

count given by Moses, of the creation of the world..

The Institute says: "The first sole cause thinks;

within itself : I will create worlds, and following-

the bidding of the celestial mandate, the waters are-

brought into being, over which moves Brahma, theCreator." Brahma then divides the waters and es-

tablishes a firmament, and proceeds with the workof creation, which is divided into periods, consisting

of many thousands of years each.

These periods Moses recognizes as days of crea-

tion, which is but another term signifying periods.

6 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION

;

The Aborigines of America have also their tradi-

tions of the "Great Spirit" in the creation of the

world; but as theirs is oral to a great extent, it is

less perfect than those we have quoted above; yet

they prove to have had a common origin with the

other traditions, and they all verify in a. marked de-

gree, the declarations of Moses, the inspired writer,

that the earth is of aqueous origin : that is, water

entered into the composition of the primitive earth

as one of the component parts.

Moses tells us, that the earth was formed out of

chaos, which means a confused mass of matter.

Scientists concede the fact that it was formed out

of chaos, but claim that the chaos resulted from in-

tense heat, which caused a fusion of the elements

of the primitive earth, and that the earth is there-

fore of igneous origin.

GEOLOOV VERSUS THE BIBLE.—WHICH SHALL WEACCEPT.

M^sjs tells us in plain terms, that the earth is of

aqueous origin. He gives us to understand that

the entire earth was covered with water in the pri-

mary stages of its formation. That, "The Spirit of

God moved upon the face of the waters;" and that

God divided the waters from the waters, and caused

the dry land to appear. This was a portion of the

first day's creation, and the earth could not have

been covered with water, as conceived by Moses,

Page 9: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

and at the same time possessed a heat of 6,000 de-

grees, and been in a fused state, resulting from this

intense heat, as conceived by geologists to have

characterized the primative earth. Here we ob-

serve, is a contradiction between geology and the-

ology, and it is a physical impossibility for both to

be correct. Moses, and the traditions of the vari-

ous races of men upon the earth, are wrong, or else

the science of geology is in error. Which shall we

accept, and which reject ? Shall we accept Moses

and the traditions, or will we accept the teachings

of geology, and concede that Moses and the proph-

ets are wrong, and that the earth is of igneous ori-

gin, as set forth in geology, instead of being of

aqueous origin, as claimed by the Bible and the

various inspired writers ?

Moses and the traditions offer no proof of the

primitive aqueous fluidity of the earth, but they

simply rely upon the bare statement of fact, unsup-

ported by evidence, only such as shall be supplied

by nature as evidenced by natural laws.

Geologists, on the contrary, offer us proof in sup-

port of their theory, of the primitive fusion of the

earth.

First: They assert and prove that the moun-

tain- systems of the globe have resulted from vol-

canic agencies; and that the rocks constituting the

great chains of mountains of the earth have been

fused, or heated to a high temperature by volcanic

forces, in the interior of the earth.

Page 10: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

8 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

Second: That the interior of the earth is in a

fused stated, as evidenced by earthquakes and vol-

canic eruptions.

Third: That the revolutions of the earth upon

its axis, changing the form of the globe from a

sphere to a sphereoid, evidence the fact that it must

have possessed a state of fusion, in its early stages

of formation, or else such a change in its external

figure could not have taken place as we now wit-

ness; a change of twenty-six miles difference in the

equatorial and polar diameters of the earth.

FOURTH: That the fossil remains of extinct

plant and animal life, found in high latitudes within

the polar circles, the species of which can only ex-

ist in the torrid zone, prove that at some period in

the early history of the earth, there must have been

a thermal uniformity of temperature over the sur-

face of the globe; or, in other words, the torrid

zones must have extended within the polar circles

of the earth; or these species of tropical plant and

animal life could not have existed within the polar

circles.

These constitute the proofs on which the scien-

tists rely for the maintenance of their theory of the

primitive fusion of the earth, and they have been

accepted by the scientific world as sufficient; and

accordingly all our text-books upon geology em-

brace the theory that the earth is of igneous origin;

that the primitive world was a ball of liquid, seeth-

Page 11: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

ing fire, probably thrown from the sun, far out in

space, where it began its revolutions in an orbit

around the sun, similar to our earth of to-day; and

that by radiation it gradually parted with its heat,

until a crust finally formed upon its surface, which

has "become thicker and firmer, as this cooling pro-

cess continued, until it has ultimately become fitted

for the abode of animal and vegetable life as we now

behold it. The christian world has not been so

ready to accept the teachings of geologists, and dis-

regard the teachihgs of Moses and the prophets;

and hence many discussions have taken place be-

tween the religious and scientflc world upon this

subject; yet science has seemed to have had the

advantage in these controversies, and as a result

many christians have abandoned the teachings of

Moses, and have accepted the scientific theory of

the primitive fusion of the earth. Many others,

and by far the greater number, of the christian

world, believe with the late Bishop Simpson, that

Moses in his account of the creation was inspired,

and that he gave the facts of the creation, "and

that God would raise up some person, in his provi-

dence, who would prove the declarations of Moses

true from evidences in nature," and would disprove

the science of geology, with reference to the primi-

tive fusion of the elements of the earth, from natur-

al causes.

Page 12: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

10 THE NEW THEORY OY THE CREATION;

Examinations of geological proofs.

It is evident from the harmony that pervades the

material universe, that the true theory, whenever

found, will be in harmony with the natural laws of

creation, as cause and effect. Our observation and

experience teach us that the Supreme Intelligence

who fashioned the universe, established a system of

natural laws for the government of matter in all its

different forms, that order and harmony might be

brought out of chaos, which constituted the primi-

tive world. These laws are known among scien-

tists as natural laws, or the chemical laws of matter,

and organized matter comes into being at the behest

of these laws, and dissolution and death ensues, in

accordance with this same almighty power; hence

natural law may be considered an attribute of Deity,

and governs the universe of creation.

Conceding this fact, which we shall prove to be

true, from Bible authority, in the course of this

treatise, it will be observed that the creation is the

direct result of natural law. Hence the creation is

in harmony with natural law, the same as cause

and effect, and the true theory of the creation, when

discovered, must be in harmony with the natural

law of creation; and for this reason, if we find the

present geological theory of the creation not in har-

mony with the natural law, then it is evident, that

the theory of the primitive fusion of the earth, is

not correct; and if the declarations of Moses in his

inspired writings, are in harmony with natural law,

Page 13: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OK, THE LIFE A.ND DEATH OF WOKLDS

then the Bible is true, and geology, so far as it con-

flicts with the Bible, is false, and is proven so from

evidences in nature, herself.

We will now briefly examine the proofs of geolo-

gists, in support of their theory of the primitive;

fusion of the earth. The first proof, that the moun-

tain systems of the earth have resulted from volcan-

ic agencies, and that the unstratified rocks compris-

ing the vast mountain systems of the globe, give

evidence of having been heated to a high state by

volcanic agencies, or having been entirely fused,

which is the case with many of them, we concede;

but on the contrary, say that this fact, as we shall

be able to establish, disproves the theory of the

primitive fusion of the earth. We shall examine

this more fully in another chapter.

The second proof, that the interior of the earth

is molten lava, does not necessarily prove that the

primitive earth was in a state of fusion, resulting

from intense heat, and we shall show from natural

causes, that although the great interior of the earth

at the present time is in a fused state, it was not

always so, but of comparatively recent occurrence,

and results from natural causes.

Third proof, that the revolutions of the earth

upon its axis, changing the form of the earth from a

sphere to a spheroid, does not prove that the earth's

material was primarily fused, but simply that whenthe earth began its revolutions, the elements were

Page 14: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

12 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

in a semi-plastic state; but does not prove whether

that semi-plastic state resulted trom a fusion of the

earth's material, or whether it resulted from water

being mixed with the solid matter of the earth as a

component part, rendering the matter of the whole

globe semi-plastic, which would subject the earth

to the same change in diameter, as though the ele-

ments of the earth were in a fused state, resulting

from intense heat, as assumed, by geologists.

The fourth proof cited by geologists, in support

of the primitive fusion of the elements of the earth,

is the fact that fossil remains of extinct plant and

animal life is found within the polar circles of the

earth, the species ol which are confined to the tor-

rid zones; and this fact would seem to indicate a

primitive thermal uniformity of temerature over the

surface of the globe. Yet, under the theory of nat-

ural law, this circumstance is also susceptible of ex-

planation, proving, beyond a reasonable doubt, that

Moses, in his account of the creation is correct, and

that the earth was primarily of aqueous origin, in-

stead of igneous fluidity, as is conceived by geolo-

gists to have characterized the primitive world.

Of what was the earth formed ?

A very common expression is heard among the

people, and from many professed christians, that the

earth was formed out of nothing, although the Bible

Page 15: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

does not say this, but, on the contrary, says it was

formed out of chaos, which means confusion, or mat-

ter without form. In Genesis, first chapter, we are

also informed that before the creation the -'earth

was;" that is, its elements existed "without form

and void." The traditions of the various peoples

that we have quoted, set forth the same idea: that

the elements of the earth existed before the crea-

tion. We shall offer proof in support of this fact,

of the elements of the earth existing before the cre-

ation of the world, in another chapter.

Through our knowledge of the laws of nature, as

well as traditions, we are informed that matter has

always eeisted in the universe, and that it is gov-

erned by natural law which we will designate an

attribute of Deity. As before stated, organized

matter comes into existence in obedience to natur-

al law, and dissolution and death ensue in accord-

ance with the same almighty power. There is

nothing in this statement contradictory to the

teachings of the Bible, although there might be a

seeming inharmony of statement. To illustrate:

The Bible tells us that God created you and me,

yet reason tells us that if our earthly parents had

not complied with the requirements of certain nat-

ural laws, you and I would not have been created.

Here is an apparent contradiction, but when we

comprehend that natural law is an attribute of

Deity, the inharmony ceases, for anything accom-

Page 16: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

14 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

plished by natural law, is accomplished by God

himself.

The Bible recognizes the existence of these laws,

and after the creation of the world the injunction

was given to man to multiply and replenish the

earth; and in this statement man is recognized as

possessing a creative power, which is accomplished

through the operation of natural, law.

Similar injunctions to those given to man were

given to the entire animal and vegetable kingdoms

of the earth, proving that the power to create was

inherent, or delegated to the kingdoms of the crea-

tion, through the operation of natural law.

Jones may begin the manufacture of hats, and he

is able to produce one hat daily by his labor; but

he now brings his ingenuity to bear, and invents a

machine by which he is enabled to produce

hundreds of hats daily; and would we say, from

this fact, that Jones was any the less the manufac-

turer of the hat, by reason of the means or the

agency he employs ? Certainly not. And the case

is the same with the Creator. It matters not to us

the means He employs to carry on His "work.

They are His attributes, and He is no less the Crea-

tor by operating through natural law. We are not

assuming in this connection that there are no such

things as special providences, where the operation

of natural law is suspended, and where a work or a

miracle is performed by an immediate act of God.

Page 17: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OK, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. 15

Such, however, are the exception and not the rule;

for if they were the rule, they would not be "special

providences."

It is chemically proven, that we may pass out in-

to the broad prairies of the west, a thousand miles

from civilization and settlement, where the prairie

grass has been undisturbed throughout the ages;

where the soil has been producing prairie grasses

for the centuries that have passed into the great

eternity; and we insert the plow and turn over the

sod, and without sowing seed of any kind or nature,

here springs up a different kind of vegetation, from

the prairie grass. Why do we witness this change

in the vegetation ? Do we believe, as some con-

tend, that God by a special providence created it ?

Certainly not. Neither the Bible, our observation,

or our experience, warrants us in such a belief. Thefacts are simply these: When we broke up the

prairie sod we killed the grass, and through the de-

cay of this vegetable matter we change the chemi-

cal nature of the soil, and the soil is no longer

adapted to that particular kind of vegetable life;

and through chemical action a different degree of

vegetable life is created, suited to the changed con-

dition of the soil; and as often as we change the

chemical nature of the soil there will be a change

in the vegetation, without adding seeds of any na-

ture. This is accomplished through the operation

of natural law, an attribute of Deity, and is strictly

in accordance with the teachings of the Bible.

Page 18: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

16 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

By referring to Genesis, we will find that the in-

spired writer informs us that God said, let the earth

bring forth abundantly, herbs yielding seed, and

fruit trees yielding fruit, after his kind; whose seed

is in itself; (modern writers tell us that this refers

to the earth.) The seed is in the earth; that is, is

formed by chemical action ot the elements of the

earth When we analyze a seed, and separate its

parts into its primary or chemical elements, we find

it consists of the same elements as constitute the

earth; not all, but a portion of them, and so com-

bined that it is impossible for chemists to repro-

duce them. These seeds are formed by chemical

action in the tree or plant from elements of nature,

taken from the earth and air, through the opera-

tion of natural law; and the same power that fram-

ed the law, that causes the seed to form in the

tree, the shrub and the flower, can and has created

the natural law, by which the germ, through chem-

ical action, is created in the soil, which will change

the vegetation, as often as we change the chemical

nature of the soil. Although digressing from our

subject somewhat, we will go a step further in this

connection, and state that not only the vegetable

but the animal kingdoms are created and governed

by the operation of natural law. If we pass back

through the ages, we will observe that the great

Ruler and Creator of the universe has decreed that

not only shall the account of the species of the

world and destiny o r the mundane creation, be giv-

en to man through the inspired word of Moses and

the prophets; but an accurate history should also be

graven on the stony pages of nature's volume, (the

earth,) which shall continue down through the ages

and shall prove a guide meridian, in the investiga-

tion of natural laws, and in the establishment of

the truth of the Bible narration of the creation, from

evidence in nature within herself. In investigating

these evidences in nature, the fossil remains of plant

and animal life, imbedded in the rocks ot the earth,

we are impressed with the general progress from a

lower to a higher order of creation. In the infancy

of the earth's existence, the elements were weak

and only capable of ushering in and sustaining a

very simple form of plant and animal life ; but as

the elements of the earth progress and become

stronger, there is a notable progress observable in

the development of animal and plant life from a

lower to a higher order, and when we trace the

gradation through the periods of the earth's de-

velopments, which Moses designates as days of

creation, to nearly the close of the sixth period, the

elements of the earth became sufficiently developed,

so we find in the fossil the primitive man,—not the

man that we now behold, but a being greatly in-

ferior, yet superior to all other creations of the ani-

mal kingdom, and when the earth had reached that

degree of progress, when the elements were no

longer fitted to his degree of development, he passed

away and gave place to a superior race, until the

present race of man made its appearance upon the

earth; and possibly in the distant future we will

who will walk the earth, and beholding the ruins

species of man have inhabited the earth, that have

wrought such wonders, and reached such a wonder-

ful civilization;just as we contemplate the ruins of

pie, and made an article of merchandise, and great

ship loads are taken from these barren shores to

Europe.

Specimens of these beasts have been found frozen

in cakes of ice, in as good a state of preservation as

when, perhaps, thousands of years ago, by a sudden

change in the axis of the earth, as we shall prove

hereafter, their abode was changed from a mild to a

frigid climate and they became extinct.

Nature, we can say, is never in a state of repose;

changes are constantly taking place in the earth;

sometimes sudden and great like earthquakes and

volcanoes, and at other times a gradual change from

one condition to another. Plant and animal life

must conform to these changes, and if their orga-

nizations are such that they cannot accomodate

themselves to the changed conditions surrounding

them, they must die and give place to such forms

01 beings of organized matters as are in harmony

with the surroundings, and we accordingly observe 4

that in the Arctic region, instead of the elephant,

mammoth, rhinoceros, crocodile, and other tropical

beasts, such as in ages passed sported at the north

pole, we find now the Polar bear, reindeer, walrus,

seal and other beasts, adapted to the changed con-

dition of the temperature or climate at the pole.

In the plant condition we notice a similar change

to that observed in the animal kingdom.

Page 22: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

20 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

In the age during which tropical beasts existed

in the region ot the frigid zones, we observe that

tropical plants did also grow and flourish in that

climate, which is proven by specimens petrified,

and also specimens frozen in cakes of ice, and found

in a frozen condition in the stomachs of many of the

tropical beasts of that region preserved in ice, prov-

ing that the change in temperature must have been

very sudden, and at the same time permanent;

as the specie of plant and animal life have both

conformed to this changed condition, incident to the

change in the inclination of the axis of the earth.

These changes that we have noted as taking place

in the creation, conform to natural law, which can

be traced down through the ages of the different

strata of the earth;proving, in substance, from fos-

sil of plant and animal, life imbedded in the earth

strata, that the days of creation meant periods of

the earth's growth, under natural law, as an attri-

bute of Deity.

During each formation, or period of the earth's

growth, we find from fossil that it is very seldom, if

ever, the animal and plant life is found beyond the

period or growth of the particular formation or

strata of rock in which they make their appearance

in the greatest profusion, proving that as the forma-

tion changes, chemical changes in the earth take

place, and that the animal and plant kingdoms

change and conform to the changed condition of

the earth's elements.

According to Professor Bronn, out of 2,055 spe-

cies or families of plants examined, but 12 species

v passed beyond the formation in which they origi-

nated, and out of 24,366 species of animal fossil ex-

amined, but 3,322 passed beyond the rocks in which

their formation took place, and many species ex-

amined do not extend through a formation, and

this is observable especially among the higher or-

ders of plant and animal life.

Professor Owen, in his treatise on fossil, states:

"That the higher the order of plant or animal life,

the less is the period through which it extends."

The first creation of plant and animal life, as be-

fore stated, is very simple and comprises, compar-

itively speaking, but few species or families ; but as

we ascend the rocks, the species increase in num-

ber and their organisms become more complicated

and of a higher order, until among other noted

species, we find in the tertiary and alluvial forma-

tion, the mastodan, the elephant, the Dinotherium,

Zengloden and man. Those that desire to trace

this subject still further should send us their name

for entry, that they may procure one of the first

volumes of our great work entitled:

"The earth, the animal, vegetable and min-eral KINGDOMS.—THEIR CREATION, AND

DESTINY."

This volume is being prepared with great care,

and will be published as soon as five thousand

copies are subscribed for.

22 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

The geological theory of the primitive

fusion of the earth considered in thelight of natural law.

If the geological theory be true and the earth, in

its primary stages of development, existed as a

great ball of liquid seething fire, as conceived by

geologists, then the conditions incident to the cool-

ing process, which caused a crust to form upon the

surface of this globe of lava, that, in time, became

capable of sustaining animal and plant life, will all

be found in harmony with the natural law govern-

ing this cooling process, sustaining the same rela-

tion to each other as cause and effect. We will

now briefly examine the laws which would operate

in the cooling process of the world, and the effect

that would follow, according to natural law, the

solidification of a globe of lava into a world, like

the earth, by reason of a reduction of temperature,

by radiation from the surface of the globe. Expe-

rience teaches us that all matter expands under the

influence of heat, and contracts under the influence

of cold. A piece of iron, when heated, we find to

be much larger than when cold, and we can con-

tinue to heat a solid until the expansive force be-

comes so great, that the body is no longer able to

retain its form and melts, or assumes the form of a

liquid, and if we still continue to increase the tem-

perature, it is possible to reach that degree of in-

tensity, when even the particles of the liquid will

dissipate or pass into a vapor. The degree of ex-

Page 25: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

pansion seems only limited by the degree of heat,

and the expansive force of all substances seems *o

increase in proportion to the increase of tempera-

ture, hence the law, "heat expands and cold con-

tracts." This is the general law and applies to all

substances in a state of nature, applying with equal

force to the liquids until they reach their maximumdensity. Observing this general law of matter ex-

panding under the influence of heat and contracting

under the influence of cold, it will be readily un-

derstood that if the primary existence of the earth

was that of molten lava intensely heated, possess-

ing not less than 6,000 degrees of heat, as is assum-

ed by geologists, that the expansive force of the

matter of the earth will, of necessity, have been

very great, and the globe in its fused condition will

occupy a much greater amount of space, than it

would have occupied, were the elements of the

earth in a solid or congealed state, by being re-

duced in temperature to that point where the mat-

ter of the globe would assume the form of a solid.

This fact being conceded, it Is evident, if by radi-

ation a crust was formed upon a globe of lava, of pos-

sibly 6,000 degrees of heat, as claimed by scientists

in the creation of the world, that the crust of the

earth would have been as large in diameter and

circumference as the globe of lava, and as this cool-

ing process continued vacuums would be created,

for as fast as the fused matter of the earth's inte-

rior would assume the form of a solid by being re-

Page 26: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

24 THE NEW THEOET OF THE" CREATION

;

duced in temperature, it would be compelled to oc-

cupy less space and the creation of vacuums would

follow as a result of this cooling process under the

general law that we have already stated. This fact

is conceded by geologists as resulting from the op-

eration of natural law governing the solidification

of the globe of lava into a world like our earth,

and there is no dispute about this first, but the

question however, arises, where were the vacuums

formed? Scientists tell us that they were formed

immediately below the crust of the earth, and this

crust giving away or collapsing, by reason of such

vacuum and consequent atmospheric pressure gave

rise to the uneven appearance of the surface of the

globe.

In arriving at this conclusion scientists evidently

disregarded the existence of another natural law

that is as unerring in its operation as the general

law we have just stated. I refer to "the law of

centrifugality. " It is a demonstrable fact that

matter assuming the form of a globe and caused to

revolve, creates a centrifugality. That is, there is

a tendency created in the matter thus put in motion

to fly off from the center of motion, or the axis of

revolution. This tendency which increases with

the increase of revolutions, we call the law of cen-

trifugality, and it applies with equal force to all

matter the same as the law with reference to heat

and cold.

Scientists recognize the existence of this law,

Page 27: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

when they observe that the revolutions of the earth

upon its axis while in a fused state changed its

form from a sphere to a sphereoid. The same

cause (centrifugality) that made the earth a spher-

oid instead of a sphere, if their theory be true,

would have caused all the vacuums to form

at the center of motion, or the axis of revolution,

instead of immediately below the crust of the earth

as geologists contend. If then, the geological

theory of the primitive fusion of the matter of the

earth is true, the following conditions are also true,

as they would result trom the operation of natural

laws governing this cooling process of the fused

matter of the globe.

FIRST: If the primitive earth was reduced to a

liquid fire by means of heat, and in this condition a

crust formed upon its surface, the crust would con-

form in figure to the surface of the globe, and would

be level ; that is hills, mountains and valleys would

have formed no portion of the landscape of our

world. We would have had for the whole surface

of the globe a level plain—a plain conforming to

the spherosity of the globe. This would follow

from the law that the particles of all liquids seek a

level, and if the earth primarily was in a fused state,

the matter composing it would seek a level and the

surface would conform to this law called gravita-

tion, and every point upon the surface of this fused

globe would be equally distanced from a within

point called the center, if the globe had been at

Page 28: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

26 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

rest ; but in consequence of its revolutions upon its

axis imparting to the matter a centrifugality, this

would operate to change the form of the globe from

a sphere to a spheroid, by increasing the equatorial

diameter and correspondingly lessening the polar

diameter ; but the law of attraction, of gravitation,

would operate continuously and the surface of the

globe would have been smooth, possessing no hills,

mountains or valleys, and as this is not the case

with the configuration of the surface of the globe,

but on the contrary abounding in hills, valleys and

mountains, we are forced to the conclusion that the

geological theory of the primitive earth is not cor-

rect, as it is evidently contrary to natural law,

which would govern the cooling process of the

world.

SECOND. Geologists inform us that earthquakes

and volcanoes result from the expansive force of the

lava caused by the internal fires of the globe, which

could not take place according to the natural law

of matter, if the present geological theory of the

primitive fusion of the earth is true, for there could

be no confinement of the interior lava to bring about

an earthquake or a volcano, and without this con-

finement these phenomena in nature are impossi-

ble. We observe that if the present geological

theory be tme, and a crust really formed upon the

surface of a globe of lava, as the fused matter of the

earth parted with its heat and assumed the form of

a solid, it would contract in form under the general

Page 29: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OR, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. 27

law that we have stated, and would occupy less

space, and would give rise to the creation of vac-

uums which would be formed at the center of mo-

tion, or the axis of revolution, arid the gasses would

escape through the poles, if need be, so there

could never have been an earthquake nor volcano

if the present geological theory of the fusion of

the primitive world be true. The crust forming

upon the world of lava in its expanded state with

the lava of the interior constantly cooling and con-

tracting in form, there would be an abundance of

room, in fact a great surplus, and hence there could

be no confinement of the interior lava, and without

this confinement there can be no eruption and con-

sequently volcanoes and earthquakes are a contra-

diction of the theory of the primitive fusion of the

elements of the earth, for they become a physical

impossibility with the present geological theory of

the fusion of the elements of the primitive world.

THIRD. If the elements of the earth were pri-

marily in a fused state, greatly expanded, and a

crust formed upon the surface of this globe of lava,

as the cooling process continued, the incrustation

would increase ; all subsequent formations would

be but a continuation of the first incrustation, and

there would have been no such things in nature as

the unstratified rocks of the earth. They would

have all been stratified, all being but a continuation

of the first incrustation;whereas, the fact is, that

the great mass of the earth consists of unstratified

Page 30: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

28 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

rocks and molten lava, and the unstratified rocks

cannot be explained or accounted for under the

theory of the primitive fusion of the earth. The

stratified rock which, according to the present geo-

logical theory, should constitute the entire earth as

fast as the fused matter became sufficiently cooled

to assume the form of a solid, does, in fact, consti-

tute but a small portion of the great mass of the

earth, they being from 12 to 15 miles in thickness

at the equator, diminishing gradually toward the

poles and disappear slightly within the polar cir-

cles of the earth, thus proving from natural causes

that the present geological theory of the primitive

fusion of the earth cannot be true.

We will now briefly sum up these results thus:

First. If the earth was primarily in a fused

state, the surface of the world would have been

level ; that is, a plain conforming to the spherosity

of the earth, for if a crust formed upon the surface

of a fused globe it would conform to the surface of

a sphere as a liquid, and would likewise be smooth

and would possess no hills, mountains or valleys.

Second. There would have been no such thing

in nature as the' unstratified rocks;they would have

all been stratified, all being but a continuation of

the first incrustation.

Third. Earthquakes and volcanoes would have

never disturbed the earth, for there could have been

Page 31: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OR, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. 29

no confinement of the interior lava to bring about

these changes ; there would have been a super-

abundance of room caused by the contraction of the

matter in being cooled, and the cause of the earth-

quake and volcano would thus have been removed

and without the cause, the effect cannot follow.

Again, following up the scientific theory or the

primitive fusion of the earth, the natural law, which

would govern the creation, would produce a pecu-

liar and at the same time a startling result. If

matter expands under the influence of heat and con-

tracts under the influence of cold, according to the

natural law already stated, and if the elements of

the earth were primarily melted by reason of in-

tense heat, approximating 6,000 degrees, the ele-

ments of the earth will of necessity be greatly ex-

panded and the earth in this fused state will occu-

py much more space, than if the temperature was so

reduced that the earth's material had been solid.

Now, if a crust should torm upon the surface of

this globe of lava in its expanded state, as conceiv-

ed by geologists, it would be as large as the globe

of lava, and as the cooling process continued the

incrustation would increase, all subsequent forma-

tions being but a continuation of the first incrusta-

tion, and eventually when all the fused matter of

the globe congealed and assumed the form of a

solid, the earth would be hollow—a mere shell.

This, by the way, is the Symmes' theory, and if the

Page 32: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

30 THE NEvV THEORY OF THE CREATION;

scientific theory of the primitive fusion of the ele-

ments of the earth be true, the Symmes' theory is

also true, as it would follow as a result of the op-

eration of natural law in the cooling process, or

the solidification of a globe of lava into a world.

The Symmes' theory of the configurationof the globe.

The author of the Symmes' theory of concentric

spheres was John C. Symmes, who was a captain in

the war of 1812. Shortly after the close of the war

he resigned his commission and devoted his life to

the investigation of this theory, which he and Amer-

icus Symmes, his son, have given to the world.

The Symmes' theory claims the world to be hol-

low, inhabitable inside as well as out. That the

outside shell or crust is about 1,000 miles thick,

except at the poles, where it approximates a thick-

ness of about 1,500 miles. This great interior con-

cavity of the earth, the Symmes' theory claims to

be inhabitable, and that it is lighted and heated

within by the rays of the sun the same as without.

This is accomplished in this manner. The earth

revolves upon an axis, not perpendicular to its or-

bit, but at an angle of 23J degrees. The sun shines

upon one-half of the earth at a time, and this being

true, it will be observed that when the sun crosses

the equator coming north, the rays will strike with-

Page 33: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

QR, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. 31

in the opening at the north pole, where it will be

refracted and will furnish light and heat to the

interior of the earth, and as the sun recedes toward

the south, as soon as it crosses the equator the rays

will penetrate the opening at the south pole, where,

in like manner, they will be refracted through the

great interior of the earth, and will furnish light and

heat as before.

Navigators in their explorations in the Arctic

region, have demonstrated the fact that the climate

at the north is the coldest at about 70 degrees, and

becomes warmer as we approach the north until we

reach the open Polar sea, beyond which navigators

have not penetrated. Navigators speak of warm

winds coming from the north, which could not come

from a country of perpetual ice and snow, such as

Newton conceived to characterize the climate at

the north pole. Capt. Parry, in his third voyage to

the north, speaks of these warm winds coming from

a northern direction, and at 82 degrees north he

measured the ice and found it to be 4 feet in thickness

;

at 82 J degrees they again measured the thickness of

the ice and found it to be but 3 feet, and at 82| de-

grees there was no ice strong enough to bear their

boats; and they were compelled to abandon their

idea of reaching the pole, as there was no ice

sufficiently strong to bear the boats that would en-

able them to outride the tempests. Parry says, the

winds from the north were not only warm, but

brought swarms of flies, and the rays of the sun

Page 34: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

32 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

were so warm that the tar become melted in the

seams of his boat. Parry, Ross, Tysson and Dr.

Kane all speak of warm winds coming from the

north. They also speak of the increase of water

fouls and animal life in general, in proportion as

they near the pole. They also assert that animals

and birds of various species go north to winter,

which would indicate a warmer climate, than at some

distance to the south.

Another strange phenomena is witnessed, and is

spoken of by navigators. They claim that in sail-

ing north in high latitude the north star rises to the

zenith and then passes toward the stern of the ship.

According to the general idea of the position of

the north star with reference to the pole, the vessel

would have to be in the region of the pole before

the North star would be in the zenith, or directly

overhead;yet the star passes toward the stern of

the ship before the vessel reaches 83 degrees. It is

also remarked that the water is here in a state of

aggitation, which has alarmed navigators.

In the Greely expedition it will be remembered

that Lieutenant Lockwood and Sergeant Brainerd

in 1883 journeyed north to Lockwood Island 83

24' N., and longitude 44 ,5', W. Here they

were turned back by open water, and barely escaped

with their lives, on account of the aggitation of the

water and the tendency to carry them northward

into the open sea.

Page 35: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OB, THE LIFE AND DEATH OS" WORLDS. 33

Mr. Symmes' theory explains this phenomena in

this manner: "That the earth is hollow, the crust

being a shell, a> before stated and the ages sur-

rounding the poles he calls verges. He claims that

the water passing over this verge into the interior

of the earth is what causes the aggitation of the

water, and the vessel sailing over this verge will

experience the rising of the North star to the

zenith, and then the decline towards the stern of

the ship. Mr. Symmes' further claims that if the

voyage was continued, the vessel would emerge

from the south pole, thus proving that the earth

can be sailed through as well as around.

As little as this theory is endorsed, it is perfectly

in accord with the natural law, if the geological

theory of the primitive fusion of the earth is true.

Mr. Symmes' bases his theory of the configuration

of the globe upon the geological theory of its prim-

itive fusion, and if his premises is correct, his theory

as to the configuration of the globe is also correct,

as it would follow as a result of natural law.

As the dements of the earth congealed by being

deprived of heat, they would contract and occupy-

less space, and vacuums wculd form as a result ot

of this incrustation or cooling process, and as a

crust is already formed over the surface of the great

heated mass of the world ot lava, the exterior sur-

face of the crust can never become smaller; as

the heated matter congeals it will add on to the

Page 36: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

34 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

crust already formed, and as the revolution of the

globe upon its axis imparts to matter a centrifugal-

ity it will always keep the heated matter in contact

with the crust of the earth, and the vacuums will

form at the center of motion or the axis of revolu-

tion.

A familiar example we can have of the centrifu-

gality of matter, by placing water in a bucket and

swinging it over our heads. We will find that there

is a tendency in the water thus put in motion by

the force of the arm, to fly off from the center of

motion, or the axis of revolution, which in this in-

stance is the arm pit ; but it is restrained from

doing so by coming in contact with the bottom of

the bucket. This force of centrifugality will keep

the water in the bucket in constant contact with

the bottom, and notwithstanding the fact that the

bucket in making the revolution, is a part of the

time inverted, the water still remains in it, held

firmly by the laws of centrifugality.

So it is with tiie matter of the earth. If a crust

formed upon its surface, in consequence of the revo-

lution of the globe upon its axis, imparting to mat-

ter a centrifugality, the lava of the interior of

the earth would be kept in constant contact with

the crust of the earth, the same as the water was

kept in contact with the bottom of the bucket, and

as the matter of the earth contracts, in being reduc-

ed in temperature, the vacuums will be formed at

Page 37: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

the center of motion, or the axis of revolution, and

when the whole fused matter of the earth becomes

congealed, the earth will be hollow, similar to the

Symmes' theory, possessing a great interior concav-

ity from 3,000 to 5,000 miles in diameter, and pass-

ing through the earth from north to south, termi-

nating with the poles, which will be near the cen-

ter of the opening at either axis of the earth.

Hence, if w e concede the primitive fusion of the

earth to be a fact, we must also concede the

Symmes theory of the configuration of the. earth, as

a result of the operation of natural law, attending

the solidification of a globe of lava into a world.

We shall, how ever, attempt to account for all the

circumstances attending the discoveries at the north

pole on a different theory, based, however, upon

natural law as evidenced in the creation of the

world, but resting upon a different premises than

that of the primitive fusion of the earth.

The earth's origin as evidenced by natur-al LAW, BY TRADITION AND 15V MOSES

AND THE PROPHETS.

Through our knowledge of the laws of nature, as

well as our experience and observation in this di-

rection, we are taught that all new forms of matter

coming into existence* proceed from another al-

Page 38: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

3<j THE NEW THEOtn OF THE CREATION;

ready existing ; hence the bible tells us that there

is nothing-new under the sun.

This knowledge forces us to the conclusion that

there must have been two great first principles in

the universe of creation, from which have proceed-

ed all existing forms of matter. We notice in our

own being, as well as all organized matter, these

two principles, there is material (the body) and im-

material (the life.) The union of these two princi-

ples produces our being, and the case is the same

throughout nature.

In all the combinations of matter we find a posi-

tive and a negative element, which seems to per-

vade the entire creation to such an extent that, if

we find a negative, we may be certain that there is

a corresponding%)6sitive, and vice versa.

Electricity was, at one time, considered an ex-

ception to this general rule ; but it was soon ascer-

tained that even in this there was a positive and

negative element, proving that so far as the finite

mind has been capable of investigating, there is a

positive and a negative classification of the entire

creation.

Observing this general characteristic of the crea-

tion, it is reasonable to presume that when we pass

back through the ages, antedating the creation of

the world, that there was also a positive and a neg-

ative element existing.

OK, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WOULD*. 37

The positive element of the creation, commonlycalled God, is everywhere recognized by our chris-

tian civilization, hence it will only be necessary for

us to prove the co-existence of matter, and we,

will thus establish the co-existence of* these two

principles, and prove the declaration of Moses true,

from scientific researches, that " the earth was

formed out of chaos" which means matter in confu-

sion. Moses no where in the Bible warrants us in

the statement that God created the matter which

constitutes the world, but on the oilier hand he

stated positively the contrary.

He says: " In the beginning," mark the language,

not at the beginning, but " IN THE BEGINNING, "

which would lead us to infer that the earth had

progressed, that is the matter had formed or exist-

ed when "God created the heavens and the earth,"

and further on in the same chapter He tells us,

"the earth was," that is the elements existed with-

out lorm and void. The traditions that we have

cited in chapter first referring to the creation, if we

consider them as having a common origin, as is in-

dicated by themselves, if they prove anything, they

prove that the matter of the earth existed before

the creation. The tradition of the Aztics says

that, 44 the earth existed like a fog, like a cloud,

was it in formation, " which accords with the teach-

ings of Moses that the earth was formed out of

chaos. But discarding these evidences, let us in-

vestigate and establish the existence of matter be-

Page 40: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

38 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

fore the creation of the world from scientific re-

searches. In order that we may intelligently in-

vestigate this principle, let us consider that there

has been no creation of the world. We will sup-

pose the earth and its attributes stricken from the

great planetary System of worlds, and we will now

pause in our deliberations and ascertain if there is

anything existing in -the place so recently occupied

by the w orld. Scientifically,, we 'find something

here that has existed before anything we know of,

and the name of this something is space.

We are accustomed . to ,. look upon space, or its

elements, as a void—something not material. Asthe school boy -says,- "a great nothing;" but if

space is really nothing, scientifically, it can not

exist ; but we are made aware that it docs exist,

we, the earth- and -its attributes, as well as the

great systems of worlds, move in it ; we perceive it

with our sense of sight, and it thus becomes palpa-

ble to our organs-*6f -sense, and science teaches us

that anything palpable to our organs of sense, is

matter. Thus, space is not only an existing thing,

but possesses the quality of matter, and hence, may-

be considered the negative element, of the crea-

tion. " '

Space is conceded to be without limit, it exists

everywhere, and .occupies all place not occupied by

other bodies. . ;.I.t is.a difficult proposition for us to

comprehend, for the finite mind is not presumed to

Page 41: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OR, THE LIKE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. 89

be able to grasp infinity, but if we supposed space to

be limited, then the question would suggest itself,,

what exists on beyond these supposed limits ? Towhich, reason could only answer space.

Space must therefore be unlimited, and thus the

axiom would follow, if space has no limit, it can

have had no beginning ; for in case it had had a be-

ginning, it w ould of necessity, beg-in to extend from

one point, and if this were the case, it would not

matter how rapid ly it might be gaining in extent,

it would always be limited, which proves. not to be.

Hence, space is eternal in existence and unlimit-

ed in extent. It is a body that has existed as long-

as the Creator has existed, or in other words, a

body co-existing throughout all eternity with the

God of the universe of worlds.

No one will deny the fact that space is unlimited

with reference to extent, neither will he deny the

fact that space is eternal, with reference to time. If

space then, is eternal in existence and unlimited in

extent, and possesses the properties of matter, it

may certainly be called the negative element of

creation, and these conditions are amply proven

from scientific researches. Space cannot be limited

for there can be no boundary, and if space is not

limited, it can have had no beginning, and is there-

fore eternal and if the elements of space occupies

place and is palpable to our organs of sense, philos-

ophy teaches us that it is matter.

Page 42: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

40 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

Again, nature always makes the most of her

energies, which is a part of God's great plain in the

creation, and she never creates a void. This would

be a waste, and is not characteristic of the Ruler of

the universe. Hence, space is not a void, as is gen-

erally conceived, but matter, and probably the neg-

ative element of the creation of. the world.

Space, therefore, being eternal in existence and

unlimited in extent, and possessing the qualities of

matter, is not this the same body spoken of by

Moses, when He informs us that "In the beginning

God created the heavens and the earth, that the

EARTH was without form and void ?" If the earth

was, that is existed, before the creation, it would

have been a part and parcel of the elements of

space, and as space is without form, which is the

case, it being unlimited, the elements of the earth

would have been void, hence the matter of the earth

before the creation of the world was just such a

body as is represented by Moses—-a body WITHOUTFORM and VOID.

Tracing the operation of natural law in

the creation of the world.

The primary division of the elements of space

seems to have been' atoms. These atoms possessed

a sort of life known as the chemical life of matter,

an attribute of Deity, which manifested itself in at-

Page 43: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OHt THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. -H

trading other atoms of space, and forming combi-

nations of atoms and eventually worlds. These

combinations will at first have had the appearance

ot large clouds or mists floating in space, as

appears from astronomical observation, and will

gradually have condensed, and after a lapse of time,

perhaps millions of years, (for a thousand years to

nature is as but one day) they will become solid

bodies, which we now see in the form of celestial

globes, and of which our earth is also one.

It is also ascertained that space varies in density

in different parts of the heavens, as manifested by

the comet in its passage through space. Thecomet in passing through that part of the heavens,,

where the atoms of space have been aggregated

into globes like the earth and other celestial bodies,

the friction being less, the attractive force of the

particles of the comet will act more forcibly upon

each other and the comet becomes globular in form;

but in passing through that part of the space where

the atoms have not been aggregated, it meets with

more resistance and the comet elongates, and has.

what we call an increase of tail.

The comet is probably a globe in formation, in

fact, this proposition is now conceded by scientists

in both America and Europe. Within the range of

the science of astronomy comets have steadily mod-ified towards a planetic existence. Take for exam-

ple Encke's comet. When it first became known

Page 44: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

4i> THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

to astronomers, it developed at perihelion a tail 30

degrees in length; but now it appears at perihelion

as a hazy globe, and at the present rate of progress

toward a world, it will require but a few thousand

years to make it a planet of our solar system. Hal-

ley's comet has also undergone a great change since

it was first discovered, and has lost most of its

cometic character, and is rapidly assuming the form

of a planet.

Comets may be divided into two general classes

—solar and planetary. The solar comets are those

outside of any system of worlds, and whose conden-

sation will give rise to a planet like the earth and

other similar globes in the solar system.

These combinations will, at first, be very irregu-

lar in their orbits, but gradually condensing, will at

last take fixed positions with respect to each other,

for they are all attracted, the one by the other, in

all directions, and the distance between them be-

coming greater by reason of the particles uniting,

will no longer admit of any irregularity in motion

to bring them together. The earth, to illustrate,

is attracted by the sun ; but at the same time is at-

tracted in an opposite direction by other celestial

bodies, and by other solar systems which keep her

from approaching any nearer the sun, and causes

her to remain in her orbits. Not only this, but the

electric currents passing from one globe to the

other has not only an attractive, but a repulsive force,

Page 45: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

which exerts itself upon all globes throughout the

universe and keeps them in their respective courses.

The law of attraction seems to be, that like repels

like, and attracts the opposite. We see this illus-

trated in a marked degree by the planetic comet.

The comet, we will say, is in a remote part of the

solar system, and consists of particles of space or

matter but partially united and possessing a low

temperature. It is now attracted by the sun,

which in consequence of its fused condition, pos-

sesses the opposite electric current to that of the

comet. The comet in approaching the sun is over-

come by- the more powerful currents of the sun's

electricity, and becomes charged with the same and

is repelled to the opposite part of the system, at the

same time, of course, acted upon to a greater or

less extent by the attractive and repulsive forces

of all other planets and systems of planets of the

universe of creation. If now, the globes in their

various stages of development, are held in their re-

spective orbits by their reciprocity of attractive

and repulsive forces, it follows that such globes

must be dispersed throughout space, to establish

the equilibrium of the system. The planets in

their various stages of formation constitute their

solar system -1, and again, solar systems of solar sys-

tems giving rise to, and constituting the great uni-

verse of creation ; with the attractive and repul-

sive forces extending irom one globe to the other

throughout this great system, acting not unlike the

tendons in the animal body.

Page 46: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

4A THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

For illustration, we will take the whole unlimit-

ed universe, and compare its parts to the animal:

organization. Space being the great unlimited-

body, without form and void, the globes are the

muscles of this great body, while the attractive and

repulsive forms, extending from one globe to anoth-

er, throughout this great body, are the tendon, or

cords that bind into one harmonious whole, the sev-

eral parts of this incomprehensible body, while the

brain, the great thinking and directing force of this

unlimited body, is God—not only God of this world,

but God of an infinitude of worlds, comprehending

within his immensity aH space and all time.

Development of worlds from comets andx k b u lo u s matte r

.

Again referring to the Bible, Moses tells us that

the earth was formed out of chaos ; that the matter

which comprises the earth, before the creation of

the world, was without foim and void. We have

endeavored to show that this was really the case.

That the originary matter, of which the earth and

other globes are created, is the element of space ;

and that as space is without form, it being unlimit-

ed, the elements of the earth would also have been

without form, and as the matter was void of life be-

fore being acted upon by Deity, the matter of the

earth was in the condition described by Moses,

Page 47: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

- without form and void. " The primary elements

of space, as before stated, consisted of atoms, which

was aroused by the action of Deity to a sort of

life, which we recognize as the chemical life of mat-

ter, creating an affinity in the atom* causing them

to unite and form combinations of atoms, and even-

tually worlds. A good illustration of this affinity,

or chemical life of matter in forming combinations

of atoms is apparent in the process of churning

butter. The atoms of butter will at first be so

small they cannot be distinguished by the naked

eye, and in this condition they approximate very

closely the atoms of space. We now, byaggitating

the cream, arouse the chemical life of the atoms

(which seems to be electricity excited by friction,;

and combination of the atoms takes place, and wre

have small globes of butter, which correspond to

the intermediate stage in the development of a

world, or that period in a planets development

when these small globes unite, and produce the un-

stratified rock of a planet. This is our explanation

of the unstratified rocks of a planet, which consti-

tute the bulk of the earth, and have never been ac-

counted for, and cannot be, by geologists in their

theory of the primitive fusion of the earth, because

they take their origin from the union of small

globes, which constitute the great mass of all plan-

ets, according to natural law, and to which our

earth is no exception, as is proven by actual obser-

vation.

Page 48: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

46 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

A small portion of the atoms of space seems to

have* consisted of humidity, or moisture, which is

one of God's great agents in the development of

worlds. When these atoms unite and form corpus-

cles of matter, or globules, the parts constituting;

the globule, or small globe, will arrange themselves

according to the laws of attraction, of gravitation,

and the solid matter will be acted upon more forci-

bly than the light matter, or water, which will be

forced to the surface, and the globule will be cov-

ered with water, the same as now appears to be the

case with the small globes, or globules in Aster-

oids.

These innumerable globules in asteroid, is prob-

ably a planet in the intermediate stage of forma-

tion, or as the earth was when the small globes

united and formed the unstratified rocks of the

earth. This space called asteroid is between the

planets Mars and Jupiter, and early attracted the

attention of astronemers, as it was conceded by all

that a planet ought to occupy this space in order

to cause harmony to pervade the solar system.

Bodes' law proved this proposition to a certainty,

and demonstrated that if we let "o" represent the

sun, and " 3 " the first planet, then the distance of

the globes of the solar system will correspond with

the following numbers: o, 5, 6, 12, 24, 48, 96, etc.,

but a vacancy appears in the solar system in 24,

and all the other globes corresponds to these num-

bers respectively.

Page 49: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OK, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WOllLDS. 47

Astronomers were further agreed that something-

existed in this space, that influenced the, planets

Mars and Jupiter, and caused a purturbation in the

orbits of these planets; they accordingly directed

their attention to this part of the heavens, and in

1 80 1 Piazzi discovered a small globe in this space

which he named Ceres ; other globes were soon

discovered, and it now appears that a great num-

ber of minerature worlds, or globules, exists in this

space, which has accordingly been called, asteroids;

all the globes so far as can be ascertained, are cov-

ered with water, and so small that they are invisi-

ble to the naked eye, except vista which sometimes^

when the sky is remarkably clear, appears as a star

of the sixth magnitude.

These globules which should have united and

formed the unstratified rocks of a great planet in

the space called asteroids, from some irregularity

in the law governing the development of worlds,

were kept from uniting and forming a real planet,

and ma)' be considered a monstrosity in the devel-

opment of worlds.

w We notice this is often characteristic of the oper-

ation of natural law. We see the animal, some-

times, born with two heads, when he should have

but one, and four feet when he should have but two,

and vice versa. These are anomilies, and caused

by the derangement of natural laws ; and as ail

creation is governed by natural law, is it not reas-

Page 50: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

t8 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

onable to suppose that these same anomolies wewitness in the creation of animals, a.^ resulting

from the derangement of natural law, have a coun-

terpart in the creation of worlds, and in support of

this fact we have the unmistakable .proofs. Is not

Saturn, with he encircling rings and eight moons a

monstrosity ? We have nothing like her in the

^solar system, and as all planets are created by the

operation of natural law, and from the same mate-

rial, should they not be in a manner the same ?

The principal difference resulting, in the main as

as we shall show hereafter from the age and size of

the planet.

Thus Asteroid and Mars may be considered

monstrosities of our solar system in the formation

of planets. Asteroid, more as a premature birth of

a world, or a globe, in its intermediate stage of de-

velopment, yet it is possible that in the future the

cause that has operated to prevent the union of the

small globes of Asteroid, which would have formed

the unstratified rocks of a great planet, may be re-

moved and those globlets may yet unite and pro-

duce a real planet like the earth and other globes

of the solar system.

When globules or globlets unite and produce the

unstratified rocks of a real planet, it is observable

that the same law of attraction of gravitation op-

erates, as when the atoms unite to form globulets.

The solid matter being acted upon more forcibly

Page 51: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

by this power of attraction, then the lighter sub-

stance, (water) the water will be forced to the sur-

face of the globe, and before the globlets become

perfectly united, the water will have covered the

entire surface of the planet, giving it the appear-

ance of the youthful Jupiter, with water covering

the entire face or surface;presenting the appear-

ance of a world of water, as the telescope reveals

the planet Jupiter. This was, undoubtedly, the

condition of the earth, when, as Moses tells us, the

spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters,

and that God dividing the waters from the waters,

causing the dry land to appear.

HOW THE DIVISION OF THE WATERS WERE EF-

FECTED BY THE OPERATION OF NAT-

URAL LAW.

The great mass of the earth we may now con-

ceive to be completed ; that is, the globules of

the earth have united and formed the unstratified

rocks of the earth. The unstratified rocks cannot

be accounted for on any other theory. They are

proven to have been small globes, and constitute

the great bulk of the " earth ; the stratified rocks

being but from thirteen to fifteen miles in thickness

at the equator, and diminish gradually in thickness

towards the poles, and disappear slightly within the

polar circles of the earth ; hence it is evident they

Page 52: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

SO THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

constitute but a very small portion of the great mass

of the earth, which, as before stated, consists of un-

stratified rocks and molten lava.

Let us now follow the earth through its various

stages of development, until it* becomes a perfect

world. It now appears as a globe of water, for in

the union of the globules, the water was forced to

the surface, and we now behold the dark waters of

the globe, as they lie undisturbed upon the bosom

of the earth. The spirit of God, that Moses tells

us moved over the face of the waters, is now mani-

fest in the revolution of the earth upon its axis.

The effect of this revolution is soon apparent. The

water at the poles will be acted upon by a cen-

trifugal force, and will divide, causing a continent

at either pole, which constituted the first firmament,

and resulted from the revolution of the earth upon

its axis. If we desire to illustrate this proposition,

we can do so by placing a small amount of water

In a bucket and cause it to revolve or whirl around.

It will be observed that the water will separate at

the center and flow towards the sides of the bucket,

and if there be but little water in the vessel, a bar-

ren spot will be seen at the center of revolution, or

the pole, which will be a good illustration of the

polar continent. If this proposition be true, is it

not reasonable for us to presume that the poles

were the homes of our first parents, and possessed

the garden of Eden with its fruits and flowers, and

Page 53: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OR* THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLD?. 51

that here is where Adam gave names to the beasts

of the fields and the fouls of the air. There is

many evidences in support of this proposition

which we will not attempt to present here. Wewill only answer one or two of the most commonobjections to this proposition. The first would be

that our first parents existed in a warm climate,

and that the climate at the pole is cold. Wewill only suggest that the climate at the poles is

different at this advanced stage of the earth's exis-

tence, than in its youth. The youthful planet, as

is proven by Jupiter and other globes, revolved on

a line perpendicular to the plane of its orbit ; hence

the path of the sun was stationary ; that is, it never

varied to the north or south of the equator, but was

always on the line. The sun shines upon one-half

of the earth at a time, and this being true, the rays

of the sun stationed at the equator, penetrates both

poles of the earth. Then, there is another modify-

ing circumstance. The equatorial diameter of the

earth being twenty-six miles greater than the polar

diameter, there is a tendency in the water at the

equator to pass towards the poles, and 'coming in

contact with the polar currents at about 80 or 83

degrees, they unite and form an elevation of water

surrounding the polar continents. The refraction

of the sun's rays (estimated to be about 17 degrees)

will pass over the elevation of water upon the one

side and strike within, on the other side, so it is ev-

ident thai the polar continent, not only received

Page 54: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

52 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATIONj

the direct rays of the sun continuously and more

nearly verticle than at some distance from the

polar continents towards the equator ; but also the

reflected rays of the sun, reflected from the water

surrounding the polar continent, from the opposite

side to that of the sun. These circumstances will

greatly modify the climate of the polar continent

and convert it from a frigid to a mild or torrid cli-

mate, which characterized the early existence of

the polar continents, as manifest from the remains

of tropical animal and plant life within the polar

circles.

Again, the earth is a great magnet and the cur-

rents of electricity thrown from the earth at the

poles giving rise to the Aurora-borealis in the

north and the Aurora-Australis in the south mayhave had a tendency to further greatly modify the

climate at the poles and convert it into a torrid

zone at the time of the formation of the polar con-

tinents. This proposition is susceptible of proof.

(See our large work.) The fact that the climate

of the north pole has been suitable for the growth

and development of tropical plant and animal life is

proven beyond a shadow of doubt by northern ex-

plorers. The further north we travel within the

polar circles the greater is the vestiges of elephants,

tortoises, crocodiles and other beasts and reptiles

of a tropical climate.

Many of the islands within the polar circles, nav-

igators inform us, are formed almost exclusively of

the remains of tropical animals, proving that they

must have existed in great numbers in the region

at the poles.

We will have to pass from this subject for want

of space, and proceed to the consideration of the

stratified rocks of the earth.

The stratified rocks considered.

The earth is possessed of two principal revolu-

tions;one, diernal or daily, upon the earth's axis

;

and the other annual, or yearly, around the sun.

The unstratified rocks of the earth being now formed

and the earth's surface covered with water,

except the continent at the poles, it begins to at-

tract to itself in its revolution, the small particles

of matter, floating in space, in the earth's orbit

around the sun. These particles will form in layers,

or strata, from the fact that the earth is revolving

upon its axis, and the matter thus formed in layers,

will constitute the stratified rocks of the earth.

As proof that they have formed in this manner it

will be observed that the strata are thickest at the

equator, where the attractive powers of the earth,

for obvious reasons, would be greatest, and dimin-

ly within the polar circles, where we find nothing-

but the unstratified rocks, which form the great

mass of the earth.

This fact is strictly in accordance with the law of

the attractive and repulsive forces of the earth,

and prove that the stratified rocks of the earth

have resulted from these causes.

Another fact becomes apparent in the considera-

tion of the unstratified rocks of the earth, and that

is, that if the stratified rocks were removed from

the earth's surface, that the polar diameter and

equatorial diameter would be the same. Hence,

the earth changed its form from a sphere to a

spheroid, not by virtue of the fused mass of the

matter of the globe, and the action upon this mass

of the centrifugal force of the matter of the globe

as claimed by geologists ; but by the super-accre-

tion of matter in forming the stratified rocks of the

surface of the earth.

Geologists concede that the stratified rocks evi-

dence the fact that they have been formed in

water ; and how else could it have taken place, but

in the manner indicated. When the small globules

united and formed the unstratified rocks of the

earth, it is evident that a vast amount of matter in

small particles existed in the orbit of the earth,

which the earth would attract to itself, in its 'cir-

cuit around the sun, and in proof or this fact we

Page 57: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OR, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS.

can see that outside of the earth's immediate at-

traction, that is at the point where the repulsive

force would operate, and balance or overcome the

attractive, the nebulos matter was so plentiful that

it formed the moon, and the attractive and repul-

sive forces gave it an orbit around the earth, and it

sustains about the same relation to the earth that

the earth does to the sun.

In fact we may consider the earth, and all the

other planets of this solar system as satellites of

the sun ; the sun being the main body, or globe,

and the planets mere attendants, or as we would

say, moons. All systems, whether planetary or

solar, are formed of the same material, and govern-

ed by the same laws, and hence a planet and its

satellites is only a solar system on a small scale, as

we have attempted to prove in our larger work,

and in most cases the planet has not reached that

period of incandescence, which characterizes the

sun. Nearly all the planets are accompanied in

their orbits with one or more satellites, or moons.

Take for instance, Jupiter ; she is attended by a

retinue of four moons, which have their orbits and

are a beautiful illustration of a solar system. If

we consider each of the planets, with their satel-

lites a system, then our solar system would be a

system of systems, and would convey to our un-

derstanding something of the nature of the creation

of worlds.

Could we but penetrate the great immensity of

Page 58: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

space, we would behold systems of worlds, forming

their solar systems of solar systems, extending

throughout the infinitude of space, and down

through the ages of an everlasting eternity of time;

all constituting the universe ot creation, and gov-

erned and controlled by the same Almighty power.

When Ave contemplate the grandeur of the uni-

verse, in all its immensity of space and time, the

earth seems lost in its insignificance, yet a knowl-

edge of the mundane creation enables us to ascer-

tain and comprehend, to some extent, the laws

that govern the material creation, and enables us

to form a juster appreciation of the omnipotent

power that has fashioned and formed the universe

of worlds, and the laws by which they are governed

and controlled.

The internal fires of the globe.—Theircause and the effect in the develop-

ment of the world.

Let us now, in our minds, pass back through the

centuries, to the period marking the completeness

of the earth. Strictly speaking, this is not true, for

the earth is constantly growing, although at the

present time it is so slow as to be almost impercep-

tible;yet the particles of matter in the orbit of the

earth is constantly being attracted to the earth, and

Page 59: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

occasionally, these particles are so plentiful, as to

be visible to the eye at sun rise and sun set;giving

the sky a peculiar cast, resulting as astronomers tell

us, from "meteoric dust in the atmosphere." Wealso note occasionally meteoric stones which fall

from the atmosphere, and the earth is being con-

stantly augumented from these sources, but not to

that extent as to form strata of rocks rapidly as at

the period in the earth's history when the globules

united and formed the unstratified rocks, leaving in

the entire orbit of the earth vast quantities of mat-

ter, in minute particles, to be attracted to the sur-

face of the earth to form the stratified rocks neces-

sary for the completion of the earth.

The earth, at this period, we will consider as

having reached the strength of its manhood. It is

now a youthful world, like the planet Jupiter. It

consists of the unstratified and stratified rocks, with

the surface of the world covered with water, except-

ing the continents at the poles. The stratified

rocks were merely wound on to the surface of the

globe, by reason of the revolution of the earth upon

its axis and its attractive forces ; but being heavier

than water, sank and adhered to the unstratified

rocks, and the water rose to the surface of the globe

and covered the whole face of the earth, except the

continents at the poles. The earth, at this period,

revolved upon a line perpendicular to the plane of

its orbit, as is the case with Jupiter and all other

planets during their youthful period, as the causes

Page 60: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

58 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

have not yet operated to change their centers of

gravity, which takes place at a later period, whenthe planet is more advanced in age and the- conden-

sation of its parts greater.

The effects of the condensation of the matter of a

globe are two-fold. It increases the elements, or

strength of the earth, by increasing its electric cur-

rents, and renders it capable of sustaining a degree

of animal and vegetable life ; and second, it gene-

rates a heat in the interior of a globe, that in time,

fuses it, and causes the death of the planet at a later

period. In other words, the planet becomes burned

out and dies. The office of the internal fires of the

globe seems to be to decompose or fuse the solid

matter, and send life currents of electricity to every

part of the globe, and probably to other worlds, in

space, as seems evident from the electric currents

escaping from the poles of the earth into space,

which we recognize as northern and southern lights.

These seem to be life currents, and like the heart

in the human body, at every pulsation it sends the

life currents to every part of the system, and again,,

like the heart, in the course of time, it will cease to

operate and death will result to the world, the same

as the individual. They are both subject to the

same law, and life and death is as characteristic of

worlds as of individuals. Old globes, worn out in

the mechanism of the universe, are dissolved and

new, ones arise. Observation proves both of these

Page 61: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

propositions true, and each planet has its period of

infancy, youth, manhood and old age, similar to the

individual, for all are formed of the same material

and are governed by the same natural laws.

The diameter of the earth is about 8000 miles,

hence it will be observed that the matter at the

center of the earth will sustain the combined

weight of all the matter of the globe from the cen-

ter to the surface. This weight is enormous.

Think of it ; the weight of nearly 4,000 miles in

thickness of the solid matter of the globe. This

power we call condensation, and we will now con-

sider its effect upon the world.

It is estimated by competent authority, based

upon actual experiment and cited in Babcock's

Geology, that the condensation or pressure of the

matter of the earth at its center is sufficient to com-

press rock into one-eighth (J) of its size on the sur-

face of the globe ; and steel into one-fourth (£') of

its bulk. It is evident that no substance in nature

could withstand such a pressure and retain its form,

and the center of the earth must have been fused

from the heat generated by condensation of the

matter of the globe, long before the earth reached

its present density,

It is proven by the British Association, of Lon-

don, England, from actual experiments made in

England, France, Germany, Mexico, United States

Page 62: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

60 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

and several other countries, that the average .in-,

crease of temperature in all these countries, as wepenetrate the bowels of the earth beyond the depth

effected by the sun's rays, is one degree for every

forty-five feet, as we descend into the earth. As-

suming this statement to be true, (and it has not

been questioned to our knowledge) if we represent

the mean temperature of the earth at the surface to

be fitty degrees, a heat sufficient to boil water, will

be reached at a little over a mile below the surface

of the globe, (7,290 teet,) and at the same rate of

increase a heat of 6,400 degrees, sufficient to melt

all known rocks, would be reached at 5 9J miles,

and if the increase continued in the same ratio, at

the center of the earth, it would approximate

475,000 degrees ot heat. This degree of heat, how-

ever, is a physical impossibility, and we are forced

to the conclusion that long before the earth readied

its present density, probably shortly after the

globules united and formed the unstratified rocks of

the earth, that a heat was generated at the center

of the globe, by reason of condensation, that fused

the solid matter of the earth at the center of the

globe.

As the solid matter of the earth was thus reduced

from a solid to a fused condition, by means of heat;

it is obvious that the matter fused must have been

greatly expanded, by reason 01 this intense heat^

and as the condensation of the solid matter of the

earth continued, the heat at the center increases,

Page 63: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

and the fused matter of the interior of the globe is

augmented, and the expansive force of the lava is

increased until it becomes so great that the solid

matter of the earth, encircling the fused mass, can

not confine it ; and the solid matter of the globe is

burst asunder and an earthquake of great magni-

tude takes place ; the water from the surface is

poured into the interior of the earth and vast quan-

tities of steam is generated, a large portion of the

surface, on the one side of the earth, is literally

blown to pieces, and great quantities of fused un-

stratified rocks are thrown to the surface of the

globe, and the eastern continent thereby becomes

elevated above the water. The eastern continent

proves to have been elevated at an early period,

and by just such a catastrophe. The mountain

systems are irregular, showing that the globules

were but imperfectly united, and the vast quantities

of unstratified rocks and fused matter thrown from

the interior of the earth evidence the magnitude of

the earth's throes in the elevation of the continent.

The paroxysm having subsided by the pressure

being removed from the interior, and with numerous

volcanoes serving as vents, the earth's surface will

begin to heal by the closing of the fissures in the

rocks, but the center of gravity being moved, by

reason of the vast quantity of matter thrown from

the interior to the surface of the globe, the inclina-

tion of the earth's axis will be changed and inclined

towards the plane of its orbit, which would proba-

Page 64: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

62 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CKEATION;

bly convert the climate at the pole into one of

great frigidity, as is proven to a certainty from the

remains of extinct plant and animal life found with-

in the polar circles, the species of which have, at

some past period in the earth's history existed at

the poles.

Internal fires Continued.—The elevation

OF the western continent.

Nature is never in a state of repose;repose means

death and is not characteristic of youth, even in the

development of worlds. While organic or natural

law was steadily repairing the fracture in the rocks,

caused by the elevation of the eastern continent, ce-

menting them with fused rock, making them even

more solid than before, as is evidenced by the crater

of the extinct volcano; the solid matter of the earth

is gradually condensing and thereby increasing the

intensity and activity of the internal fires, and the

volcanoes are fast becoming inadequate to serve as

vents.

As the rocks became fused, by the intense heat

generated by the rapid condensation of the solid mat-

ter of the earth, another earth's throe maybe expected

and the elevation of another continent in the region

of America. Ages have now passed since the eleva- k

tion of the eastern continent, but the lateral pressure,

Page 65: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OK. THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS.

incident to the eruption and elevation of the eastern

continent, doubtless caused a fracture in the rocks on

the opposite side of the earth, or in the locality of

America. The surface of the earth at this time is

comparativeh' firm, and we may reasonably look for

a well denned system of mountains to be thrown up

as a result of a second rupture of the earth's surface.

The earthquake takes place in all its fury ; the

surface is opened from pole to pole, the great Rocky

Mountain system is thrown up and again the surface

of the earth, in its convulsion, is broken in the region

of the Appalachian system of mountains, and the

outward pressure of the lava of the interior of the

earth, elevates the continent between these two sys-

tems of mountains. Hence we have the two sys-

tems of mountains and the continent of America,

with numerous islands, as resulting from the last

great physical catastrophe of the earth, cause by the

fusion of the interior of the globe.

It is conceded by all authorities, that we have ex-

amined, that the eastern, as well as the western con-

tinent, has been the bed of the ocean. Shells, and

specimens, in fossil, of plant and animal life, the

species of which are confined exclusively to the ocean

beds, have been found throughout both continents,

proving beyond a reasonable doubt that both conti-

nents have been the bed of the ocean. How else

could the water have been withdrawn from them,

then in the manner indicated ?

Page 66: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

64 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

Another fact, in support of the theory, that the

American continent, was elevated in the manner indi-

cated, is that the land between these two systems of

mountains is elevated much higher than the lands on

the opposite side of the mountain systems. Theland lying between these two systems being severed

from the main body of land by these two wrents,

represented by the two chains of mountains, was ele-

vated above the water, by reason of the expansive

force of the lava underneath, and we find where the

surface of the earth has been united by these moun-

tain systems, that the side of this interior continent,

next to the mountains, is on an average four feet

higher than the land on the opposite side of the

mountain from which it was broken;proving that

the expansive force of the fused matter of the earth,

must have been sufficient to elevate and hold this

great interior continent, bounded by these mountain

systems, in its present position, until the mountains

became congealed, which fixed the continent perma-

nently in its present position.

Another fact we will notice in connection with

these mountain systems, and then we will leave this

subject. Geologists assert that the unstratified rocks

have the appearance of having been small globes,

formed in water under great pressure, and then heated

to a high state, and sometimes fused, by volcanic

agencies; and they have drawn the conclusion from

these circumstances, that the earth is of igneous

origin. Geologists have confined their researches to

Page 67: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

mountains, because the circumstances were more fav-

orable for the classification of the rocks, as they have

here been disturbed by volcanic agencies and near-

ly all classes can be found by slight effort on the

part of the explorer.

The unstratified rocks, as they appear in the moun-

tain systems of the earth, present their true history.

They are formed in water, under great pressure, by a

union of the globules which formed the unstratified

rocks of the earth. Then in being thrown from the

interior, by volcanic forces, as already indicated, they

will be heated to a high state or fused, as claimed

by geologists ; but these facts do not prove a primi-

tive fusion of the earth, but the contrary, as the un-

stratified rocks cannot be accounted for under the

theory of the primitive fusion of the globe ; and we

are not aware that they have ever been explained

outside of the present theory. Again, if geologists

will now direct their investigation to localities that

have not been disturbed by volcanic agencies, they

will find a different state ot facts existing.

We find in boring for natuaral gas, in regions re-

mote from mountain systems, that the unstratified

rocks, so far as we have been able to penetrate the

earth, give no evidence of having had heat connect-

ed with their origin. They simply prove to have

been small globes, formed in water under great pres-

sure ; and within the polar circles, where they

came to the surface, by reason of the disappearance

Page 68: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

of the stratified rocks, we find they do not evi-

dence, having had any degree of heat, connected

with their origin ; where they have not been dis-

turbed by volcanic agencies.

Hence the unstratified rocks of the globe, when

properly considered, do not prove the primitive fu-

sion of the earth, as claimed by geologists ; but

prove that the earth is of aqueous origin, as given

by Moses, and under this theory, all the geological

mysteries, that cannot be explained under the pres-

ent theory of the primitive fusion of the earth, can

be accounted for;they become plain and apparent,

and hence the facts of the creation, are in harmony

with the laws of the creation, as cause and effect, as

the true theory must ever be.

THE DEATH OF THE WORLD.

All worlds, like individuals, must die. This is a

law of nature, and to this mandate, all creation is

subject. Death may come to a.world, suddenly

and by accident, like the individual ; but will gene-

rally result from natural causes, from the exhaus-

tion of the vital iorces of the globe.

We have an example in this solar system of the

death of two worlds, and the condition of one of

these worlds, wiLl be the condition of the earth,

Page 69: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

R, THE LIFE AND DKATH OF WOKLDS 6-7

when its vital forces are exhausted. One of these

dead worlds (the sun) is luminous, and the other

(the moon) is opaque, and the condition after death

results from the size of the globe and its compara-

tive density ; but the cause is the same in each in-

stance, and results from the action of the internal

fires of the globe.

It is evident, if the internal fires of the earth con-

tinues, as a result of the condensation of the solid

matter of the earth, that a period will be reached,

when these two forces will balance each other; when

they are said to be in a state of equilibrium. This

condition is indicated by the removal or absence, of

the expansive force of the matter in the interior of

the earth.

Volcanoes will cease to act, as there will be no

expansive force exerted by the fused matter in the

interior ; the two forces will be balanced, and

there will be no further fusion of the solid matter of

the earth's interior, resulting from intense heat gene-

rated by the condensation of the solid matter of the

earth.

With the present density of the earth, these two

forces will be equal to each other, when the interior

of the earth is fused to within about 60 miles of the

surface of the globe. This condition is now indicat-

ed with our planet, and we can safely say, that the

forces are balanced in the earth ; and that 60 miles

Page 70: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

68 THE NEW THEOKY OF THE CREATION;

below the surface of our globe, every thing is in a

state of fusion resulting from interior heat, caused

by the condensation of the matter of the globe.

This condition will not long continue; for the internal

lava will gradually part with its heat, through the

surface of the earth, and will contract in form, and

create vacuums below the surface of the globe.

The shell of the earth being but about 60 miles

in thickness, evidently does not possess the neces-

sary strength to withstand its own weight and the

atmospheric pressure exerted upon it, when the

vacuum is formed underneath its surface, as is proven

from the earth treamors, or earth quakes, as we call

them ;which is simply the solid matter of the earth

sinking down, or contracting, until it comes in con-

tact with the fused matter of the interior. Earth

quakes result, in the main, as is already apparent,

from two sources: the expansion or contraction of

the interior lava of the globe. When the fires in

the interior of the earth are active, in fusing the

solid matter of the globe, the expansive force be-

comes so great, that it overcomes the strength of the

solid matter of the earth, and bursts it asunder,

elevating continents, and throwing up great moun-

tain systems ; these are are examples of expansive

earth quakes ; but after the earth has passed its me-

ridian, and reached the period, when the interior

forces, balance each other ; the expansive earth

quake, then becomes impossible, and the earth

treamors or earth quakes are all of the contractive

Page 71: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OR, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. 69

series, and the fact that these are the only earth

quakes now experienced, is proof that the earth has

passed its meridian, and is now in its old age.

Earth quakes or treamors, are also becoming

more numerous as the fused matter of the interior,

parts with its heat, through the solid surface; and

thus contracts and forms vacuums, while the solid

matter of the globe contracts, or sinks to accomo-

date itself to the contracted condition of the fused

matter beneath its surface.

The great earth quakes of '84 and '86, are yet

fresh in the minds of the people. The former hav-

ing its center of intensity, at Jamaica and Amity-

ville, Long Island, and known as the New England

earth quake, and the latter having its center in the

vicinity of Charleston, and known as the Charleston

earth quake. These earth quakes, are both of the

contractive series, as well as the 235 others, that we

have exemined, in different parts of the world. Of

course as would be expected, in several of these

earth quakes, lava has been ejected, and this has

been a notable fact, with the quakes of the greatest

intensity. The solid matter of the earth falling

some distance, and coming in contact with the fused

matter, would naturally force it through the open-

ings in the rocks, to the surface ; but the amount of

matter ejected, in the 237 earth quakes examined

by us, will not equal five per cent, of the subsi-

dence of the earth's surface and in some of these

Page 72: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

70 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

earth quakes, there has been no eruption whatever,

and only a very few that equaled the Charleston

earthquake in the amount of matter ejected.

The Charleston earth quake, being f resh in the

mind of the people, need no extended mentioning

by us;yet it will be remembered that the subsi-

dence of the earth, was so great, that the steel rails

of the railways often presented the form of the let-

ter " S," and after the paroxisms of the shocks had

passed, the rails were found to be too long and had

to be taken up, straightened, cut, and replaced

in position.

The science of Seismology, record the fact, that

there has b^en 463 earth tremors, or earth quakes

of more or less magnitude, since the beginning of

1872. It is only of recent date, that an account of

the earth quakes, have been kept with a view to accu-

racy ; and hence it becomes a difficult task to ascer-

tain just the period of time, when the nature of the

earth quake, was changed from the expansive to the

contractive series. Yet we think we can approxi-

mate the period with sufficient precision, to enable

us to tell with some degree of accuracy, the prob-

able times when these periods of subsidence, of the

surface of the earth will return, with greatest in-

tensity, and enable us to make some preparation for

the coming of that great day, when, as the Bible in-

forms us, "The elements of the earth shall melt

with fervent heat ;" for the elements of the earth,

Page 73: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OB, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS 71

are indeed melting, with the most fervent heat weknow of; heat generated by the condensation of

the matter of the globe; but just the period whenour world is to be destroyed by this fiery force, wecannot tell. We can tell with some degree of cer-

tainty, when the periods of subsidence of the surface

of the earth will occur, but we cannot tell which of

these subsidences will result in the death of the

world. A subsidence of considerable magnitude

appears in our calculation for 1892 ; but it may not

appear in that year, for our data on which we have

to base our calculations is not wholly free from

error, and the subsidence may appear between 1890

and '92, or even '93 ; we cannot tell precisely the

year, but can mark a period of three years, within

which the subsidence will occur, which is near

enough for all practical purposes. We now arrive

at that point in our theory, which deeply interests

all inhabitants of our planet ; and that is, what shall

be the condition of the earth when it shall be de-

stroyed ? Will it exist as a luminous body, as the

sun, or as an opaque body like the moon ?

This condition is determined by the capacity of

the globe to retain its form after, having been burned

out, and is governed by the comparative density

and size of the globe.

The moon is a globe having possessed all the

perfection of the earth ; seas have rested upon its

now silent bosom;vegetation' has marked its con-

72 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

tinents as a probable abode of man and beast, simi-

lar to those of the world. The mind even conceives

the time, when perhaps ships, laden with merchan-

dise, plowed the bosom of her oceans, and nations

strove with each other for the mastery and com-

merce of that world. But alas ! all is now changed.

Her oceans, her vegitation, her people, and all that

marked her former life and activity, is departed.

She is a dead world without air, without seas, and

without animal and plant life, such as once charac-

terized her being. All is quiet ; her rest is that- of

death,, and with her wounded side in full view of

the earth, as if to warn us of the approaching death

of our own planet, it seems we can read in her face

the agonies incident to a dying world.

The moon is conceded by all authorities to be a

dead world; it has been burned out by the action of

the internal fires, and the earth and all other plan-

ets, must die from the effects of the same law of

nature.

The moon possesses a diameter of about 2,OoO

miles, or one-fourth of that of the earth: and with

the present density of the moon, we find that when

the forces in its interior, that were reducing the

solid matter of the moon to a fused state, by means

of heat;producing earthquakes of the expansive

series; elevating mountains and continents on the

surface of the moon: when these forces had reached

their equilibrium, that is when the condensation of

Page 75: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

the solid matter of the moon was no longer capable

of generating heat sufficient to fuse, to any great

extent, the solid interior of the moon ; the shell of

the moon, or solid surface, at that period was about

1 20 miles in thickness. Hence it will be readily

conceived, that a globe but 2,000 miles in diameter,

with a solid surface 120 miles in thickness, enclosing

the interior lava; will not be likely to change its

form and settle down, or contract, by reason of re-

duction of temperature of the fused matter in the

the interior of the planet, through the surface, as

we observe to be the case with the earth. Andfor this reason the moon could only have had the one

kind or series of earth quakes—the expansive—on

account of the solid surface, being so thick, in com-

parison with the size of the globe, that it could not

accommodate itself to the vacuums formed below its

surface: hence an earthquake by subsidence, never

took place in the moon; but as the matter of the in-

terior, parted with its heat, through the solid matter

of the moon; and contracted in form, the vacuums

will remain, until at last the water is attracted to

the interior vacuum, and coming in contact with the

fused matter of the moon, vast quantities of steam

i-s generated, and by its expansive force, one side ol

the moon is blown literally to pieces, and the water

rushes through the opening into the interior of the

moon ; its fires are quenched, and the water sinks

permanently into the interior of the planet ; the

moon ceases its revolution, by being thrown out of

balance (gravity) and floats in space, a dead

Page 76: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

74 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

world as we now behold her, burned out by her in-

terior fires, resulting from the operation of natural

law; and in her, we have an example of the death

of a secondary world, a world which remains opaque

after having passed within the death period.

The sun as a dead world yet glorious in its

DECLINE.

The sun is a great body, supplying the planets of

the solar system with light and heat. It equals in

volume 1,245,000 globes the size of the earth and

has a diameter of 845,000 miles. That it contains,

the same matter which characterizes the earth, is»

proven beyond a doubt, by the analysis of the light

of the sun. It was formed from the same material,,

and is governed by the same laws that govern the

earth. By the condensation of the solid matter of

the sun, the heat was generated at its center, and

the fusion of its solid matter was very rapidly pre-

cipitated, by its enormous size, until its shell becameso thin, in comparison with the great mass of the

sun, that it collapsed; that is, it was not able to re-

tain its form, and fell to pieces, and was buried be-

neath the lava of the burning world. That the sun

is a burning world, there can be no doubt, and that

it is being consumed is also certain, from the fact

that even within the range of the science of astron-

omy the sun shows a lessening of its light and heat

upon the earth.

Page 77: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

OR, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WORLDS. 7#

Another proof, is the spots of the sun. They ap-

pear to be dross, or scums formed upon the surface

of the sun, where the surface is at rest, similar to

those forms upon the surface of fused metal. These

scums are often thousands of miles in diameter, and

the one in 1843 even exceeded 50,000 miles. These

scums will remain, until the seething matter from

the interior of the sun, thrown outward from the

center by the centrifugal force of the matter, caused

by the revolution of the sun, comes to the surface;

when the scum spots are lifted from the surface, by

the force of the fiery currents, and are broken to-

pieces and burried beneath the surface of the fiery

world.

Hence we have, in this solar system two exam-ples of dead world; one opaque, the other luminous,

after death. Whether it becomes necessary for all

worlds to die, or whether this death is but another

form of life, we shall not discuss in this little volume?-

but shall defer the discussion and consider of it to our

complete volume, yet to be issued. The facts are

apparent, that all globes must undergo this fiery

ordeal, and our earth is no exception to the rule, as

we have attempted to demonstrate, so far as our

space would admit. That our earth will not be

opaque when it reaches the death period, like the

moon, is proven by her size and the comparative

thinness of her shell, and the subsidence or con-

traction in her surface, to accommodate itself to the

vacuums formed underneath the shell by the con-

Page 78: ?HR (oR RATION - Internet Archive · 2013. 12. 11. · BL225 I.C3 Copy1 f75~ 2^1 | TheNewTheory 1 OF?HR(oRRATION ORTHE | J LifeandDeathofWorlds. J BY I G.CAMPBELL, MoundValley,Kansas.

76 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

traction of the fused matter of the interior. At

some period in the future, as demonstrated by the

sun, during a paroxysm of the earth's shell, in its

effort to adjust itself to the contracted condition of

the fused matter of the interior; the shell, of the

earth will fall to pieces, and be buried beneath the

lava of the interior of the world, and the whole

earth will be thenceforth fused; and the gases of the

burning earth, escaping from the surface, in connec-

tion with the oxygen of the air, will render the

earth luminous like the sun; and then shall be ful-

filled that part of the prophesy contained in the

Holy Scriptures, which declares that "The elements

of the earth shall melt with fervent heat."

As to the discussion of this prophecy with refer-

ence to the new heaven and the new earth, we will

refer our readers to our complete volume entitled,

"The Earth, the Animal, Vegetable and

Mineral Kingdoms,—Their Cre-

ation and Destiny."

This volume is now in manuscript, and has been

prepared with great care, and is designed by the

author, to meet and refute all objection that may be

urged against

The New Theory of the Creation, or the

Life and Death of Worlds.

It is richly illustrated, with engravings taken

from actual photographs of the planets, in their va-

rious stages of formation, as appears in the realms

of space.

We pass to the Nebula, and from actual photo-

graphs, show the atoms of space formed into small

globes, or globules, and then these small globes

uniting and forming the unstratified rocks of a real

world. We trace the planet through its different

stages of development; we see it take a fixed po-

sition in the great system of worlds, with reference

to all other planets of the universe. It is now as-

signed a circuit in the great system of worlds, and

begins its revolution; attracting to itself all other

particles of matter of space in its orbit; which forms

in layers, owing to the revolution of the globe upon

its axis, and produces the unstratified rocks of the

world. These facts are proven by eariy observation

upon the planet Jupiter; and later, we find Jupiter

revolving upon a line perpendicular to the plane of

its orbit, and consisting of stratified and unstratified

rocks, covered with water excepting small continents-

at her poles, where the water is parted by reason of

the revolutions upon her axes, which give rise to her

polar continents.

At this stage, in the history of Jupiter, we mayconsider her a youthful wTorld. The fires have not

disturbed her interior, sufficiently to cause a disrup-

tion of her surface, which would give rise to the

elevation of mountain system and continents, simi-

78 THE NEW THEORY OF THE CREATION;

lar to those upon the earth. But the same causes

are at work in the interior of Jupiter, [the fusion of

her interior by heat generated by the condensation

of her solid matter,] as caused the elevation of con-

tinents and mountain systems on the earth. Jupiter

at this time, revolved on a line perpendicular to the

plane of her orbit, as is the case with all globes,

during their youthful period.

This condition continued with Jupiter, until 1878,

when the expansive force of her interior fires, sud-

denly burst the globe; ejecting vast quantities of

lava, which will solidify into mountain systems, and

a great interior continent, upon the surface of Jupi-

ter.

In Appleton's Cyclopedia of 1885, volume 10, on

page 50, we find the following with reference to

Jupiter.

44 The great red spot that appeared so unexpectedly and,

it is probably, somewhat suddenly, in 1878 upon tlvs planet

(Jupiter) has been made the subject of telescopic study by

every astronomer of the world.

"Many hypotheses—possibly nil valuless—have been ad-

vanced to account for its formation, its color, its drifting both

in latitude and longitude, its immense size, and long eon-

tinned duration. It is still visible, though so much fainter

than during the hrst two years of its existence, as to lead

several astrone ners, eroneously, to announce its disappear-

ance. At the present writing [1886] it is slowly increasing

in brilliancy, and its entire line, can now be traced. * * *

At the L test observation of Jupiter, previous to his too near

approach to the sun to render further examination possible,

it was thought, that the central portion of the spot was slow-

2y tilling with matter of a brick color. * * * The aver-

age size of this spot, which Prof. Hough calls a floating

island, is 29,600 miles in leugth, and 8,300 miles in breadth.

Its t'isjnnction with the planet is proved by its drifting in

longitude, which during the first year amounted to 10.000

miles and in the second year 30,000 miles. 1 '

It will appear from the above quotation from

Appleton; the magnitude of the eruption from the

interrior of Jupiter: giving rise to a continent 29,-

600 miles long, by 8,300 miles wide. This vast

continent, the same author informs us, is drifting in

longitude, and he has accordingly named it a "Float-

ing Island."

From our standpoint, we will claim that the "is-

land," or continent, is stationary; that the apparent

change in longitude is caused by the change in the

inclination in the axis of Jupiter. The vast quanti-

ties of matter ejected from the interior of Jupiter

to her surface, giving rise to the great continent:

will evidently, change her center of gravity; and this

will change her line of revolution, from a perpendic-

ular to an incline, which would make it appear to

an inhabitant of the earth, that the continent of

Jupiter was drifting in longitude.

We leave for future observation to decide, whether

our views are correct, when the planet Jupiter,

again reaches that point in its orbit, the most favor-

able for observation. These subjects are all treated
