HP-UX 11i version 2 Operating Environment Update Release (OEUR) for June 2007 We are pleased to announce the latest release of HP-UX 11i v2 June 2007 Operating Environment Update Release (“June 2007 HP-UX OEUR”). This latest update offers important new features for both users of HP 9000 (PA-RISC based) systems and HP Integrity (Itanium®2 based) systems. The June 2007 HP-UX OEUR is available to customers with a valid support agreement and only upon written request. The information in this document is intended to assist in determining whether this release is right for you. This update to HP-UX 11i v2 is known by both of the following names:

The June 2007 HP-UX OEUR adds important new functionalities. The most significant new functionalities are:

• Support for PCI-Express I/O adapters in HP Integrity Servers, and HP-UX support for HP servers with PA8900 processors and the sx2000 chipset.

• Dynamic Root Disk: An HP-UX system administration toolset used to clone an HP-UX system image to an inactive disk for software maintenance and recovery.

• HP Application Discovery: Application Discovery agent (AppDiscAgent) is default-installed on the OE media. The agent securely supplies data to Application Discovery server at intervals that can be set by a system administrator.

• Thunderbird/Thunderbird Source: Supported email client on HP-UX, provides online browsing and searching tools for HP-UX Integrity and PA-RISC customers.

The June 2007 HP-UX OEUR is supported on all current HP Integrity servers. All of the following HP 9000 PA-RISC servers are fully supported:

• A-Class/rp2400 series (except the 32-bit processor A180 and A180C) • L-Class/rp5400 series • rp3400 series • rp4400 series • All N-Class/rp7400 series • All rp8400 series • All HP 9000 Superdome

Legacy HP 9000 server product families, including D, K, R, T and V-Class are not supported on HP-UX 11i v2. HP 9000 workstation product families, including B, C, and J-Class are also not supported on HP-UX 11i v2. Support for these workstation products continues on HP-UX 11i v1.

The HWEnable11i bundle for June 2007 includes HP-UX support for new PCI-Express I/O adapters in HP Integrity Servers, and HP-UX support for HP servers with PA8900 processors and the sx2000 chipset. Minimal HP-UX support requires other Hardware Enablement (HWE) components from the June 2007 Operating Environment Update release (OEUR) that includes diagnostics, I/O driver bundles, along with the Ignite-UX product. HP recommends a full update to the desired OE option from the latest 11i v2 OE Update release for full HP-UX support with the updated versions of the manageability and configuration tools.

Our enterprise computing business has carefully planned the transition to HP Integrity systems and places a premium on customer and partner investment protection. HP-UX 11i v2 maintains compatibility between HP 9000 and HP Integrity servers in the following ways:

• Common “look and feel” for HP-UX 11i on both HP 9000 and HP Integrity servers • Source code compatibility • Data compatibility (identical data formats) • Binary compatibility (the Aries dynamic code translation technology, a standard integrated component of every copy of HP-UX 11i for HP Integrity, is designed to enable execution of HP 9000 programs on HP Integrity systems without recompiling or relinking)

With this update of HP-UX 11i v2 for both the HP 9000 and HP Integrity server families, HP-UX 11i v2 continues to provide a smooth transition path for HP-UX customers and partners onto the next-generation HP Integrity architecture. Please note that upgrading to HP-UX 11i v2 May 2005 or a more recent HP-UX 11i v2 update release is required for the installation of vPars. Your system must also have an HP-UX 11i v2 Operating Environment from September 2004 or later to install the latest software patches and updates for HP-UX 11i v2. Additional Software Media in the June 2007 HP-UX 11i v2 OE Shipments Software Pack The Software Pack Program delivers a variety of optional HP-UX 11i v2 core enhancements on the Software Pack DVD. The product notes together with descriptions of individual enhancements can be found under the DOCS directory on the Software Pack media. In addition to being available on the media, the core enhancements can also be downloaded from HP Software Depot http://software.hp.com:

At this site you can read descriptions of specific products, as well as download them. The following product bundles are delivered on the June 2007 Software Pack media:

• The HP-UX Role-based Access Control (RBAC) security feature provides a mechanism to allow non-root users to perform selected administrative tasks. RBAC is an alternative to the traditional “all-or-nothing” root user model, which grants permissions to the root user for all operations, and denies permissions to non-root users for certain operations. RBAC partitions the root account’s privileges and allows you to distribute administrative responsibilities by creating roles with appropriate authorizations and assigning them to non-root users.

• HP-UX 11i Security Containment provides three core technologies: compartments, fine-grained

privileges, and role-based access control (RBAC). These features allow you more control of access to, and isolation of, resources for system security. Together, these three components provide a highly secure operating environment intended to permit you to modify your applications for secure access. In addition, HP-UX 11i Security Containment provides an environment for several trusted mode security features included in the HP-UX Standard Mode Security Extensions and available on standard mode HP-UX systems.

• The HP-UX Standard Mode Security Extensions provide security features including enhancements

or changes to the HP-UX Auditing system, passwords, and logins. In previous releases of HP-UX 11i v2, these features were only supported on systems converted to trusted mode. These features are available, through the HP-UX Standard Mode Security Extensions, without converting the system to trusted mode.

• The HP-UX 11i v2 Software Pack bundle contains a new command UserMod(1). In this

enhancement, usermod(1M) has been modified to selectively prevent the movement of home directories with -m option. If the NCF is installed, a configuration file /etc/default/usermod is installed on the system and the movement of "/" is restricted by default.

• The HP-UX 11i v2 Software Pack bundle contains a new command trufgrep(1) which searches

the input text files for a pattern.

• The HP-UX 11i v2 EP/NCF Software Pack bundle, ONC ENHKEY, contains new functionality for Publickey on 11i v2 to support the LDAP database as a repository for the public/secret keys.

This contains updates to the chkey/newkey command to create and change the public/secret keys pairs and the getpublickey/getsecretkey APIs to retrieve the public/secret keys.

• The HP-UX 11i v2 Software Pack Bundle contains the product LoginNLS. This new feature allows the customer to set the LANG environment variable to select the French language when displaying login(1) messages.

HP-UX Internet Express HP-UX Internet Express is a carefully selected compilation of Open Source packages which enriches HP-UX’s functionality in the areas of Web Services, Internet Services and Security services. The selected open source packages represent popular components in these areas. HP does not provide support for Open Source components shipped with HP-UX Internet Express. However, you can provide feedback or report a defect by email to the HP-UX Internet Express Team. In keeping with HP-UX’s high quality standards, Internet Express has been tested and qualified on HP-UX. Many Internet Express components can be installed and configured via the Web-based Webmin administration utility, which is shipped as part of the HP-UX Apache-based Web Server offering. HP-UX 11i Operating Environment Extension Release for June 2007 Updated 4/17 We are pleased to announce that in December 2006, HP began to offer a new Extension Release process to eligible HP-UX OE support contract customers.

When an application product is being updated ONLY on the Application Release media and that application product is a part of an Operating Environment offering, customers will be notified of this product update in their notification as a separate offering. Example for December ’06 is:
