New Features1. General • Compatibility with InDesign CC2017

• OS support: Mac OS Sierra 10.12 and El Capitan 10.11; Windows 10, Windows 7 SP1.

• Chargeable upgrade – requires new license code.

2. Pack Job• New option – Fast composition via HP PrintOS Composer: Submit HPD+DB directly to HP PrintOS Composer.

• New option – Select if or not to include Imposition in the HPD.

• HP SmartStream Designer 12 for InDesign CC2017 is a chargeable upgrade.

Customers with a Designer license for an older version will have to purchase the upgrade, and will receive a new license code.

• ExceptionCustomers who bought the SmartStream Designer 11 for CC2015 license on November 1, 2016 or later receive the upgrade free of charge: Their license code for Designer 11 can be used for the newer Designer 12.

Pack and SubmitConnectivity to HP PrintOS Composer• HP PrintOS Composer provides composition services for HP SmartStream Designer Template files.

• It accepts a Designer Template file (HPD) with a related DB file and creates a composed PDF output file.

• Pack Job function now includes automated workflow in addition to the existing manual workflow.

– Manual workflow

• Select Pack Job, destination to File, and click Pack – an HPD file is created.

• Connect to HP SmartStream Composer Server or HP PrintOS Composer, and manually upload the HPD plus related DB file(s).

– Automated workflow - NEW

• Select Pack Job, destination to HP PrintOS Composer utilizing Fast VDP workflow.

• Define the HP PrintOS Composer parameters and click Pack.

• The HP PrintOS Composer composes the output file according to the DB file selected in the Designer Database window prior to creating the HPD. Note: It is possible to replace the DB in HP PrintOS Composer before it composes the output file.

• The PDF output file can then be downloaded to user’s computer.

1. From SmartStream Designer menu, select Pack and Submit.

2. In the Destination field, select File.

3. In the Package Content pane:a. Include variable assets (optional)

from Assets folder or from Database.

b. Include Fast Template if the destination is Composer-Lite or HP PrintOS Composer or Composer Server PDF-Fast workflow. Fast Template utilizes the Fast VDP workflow, for better performance.

c. Include Imposition – Select if to include Designer imposition or not.

d. Show Report – Lists the HPD content filenames and calculates the total HPD size in MB. - Report is displayed after Pack Job process is done.

Output file can be HPD or ZIP.

1. From SmartStream Designer menu, select Pack and Submit.

2. In the Destination field, selectHP PrintOS Composer.

Composer as destination, it is possible to use Proxy.

• Consult your IT expert whether to use Proxy. If yes, consult him how to fill the Proxy Settings parameter.

• Click OK.

PrintOS Login window appears.

- Fill in Username and Password.

The HPD is created in a local, temporary folder.

6. If the Show Report check box had been selected, the Package Reportwindow appears.

– If OK or Save is clicked, the processcontinues and the Package is uploaded to HP PrintOS Composer.

– If Cancel is clicked, the process ends,and HPD is not uploaded and is deleted.

Note: If the previous session’s login timed out, you need to reenter Login parameters.

• After the upload completes, the HP PrintOSComposer window appears.– If a web browser is already open, it will open a new

tab. If a web browser is not open, it will open.

• The user can make last minute changes in HP PrintOS Composer settings.– Replace the DB with another.

– Select a different Imposition template (triangle icon) or edit the selected one (pencil icon).

– Change values of any record data.

• Clicking Compose starts the composition (and Imposition, if selected) and produces a PDF output file.

Pack Job improved options• Pack Job window includes a new option:

Include Imposition• Package Size: The Show Report resulted list now

includes also package size in MB

• Packing action: Packing is performed before the report is shown, but if selected destination is HP PrintOS Composer, then the Submit will be performed only after the Report was reviewed and the user clicked OK

Text Channel Fitting

• Text Fitting new option: Always

• Double-click the channel row in the Channels panel to open the Modify Text Channel window.

• Never – leaves font size as is. Overflowed text is cut.

• On Overflow – font size reduced if overflows, to fit text box limits.

• Always – font size reduced or enlarged to always fit text box limits.

• Duplicate page – identical InDesign page(s) created to contain the overflowed text. Useful for letter jobs.

Note: Fitting “Always” for barcode fonts adjusts the barcode font size according to the frame width. To enable invisible QR and DataMatrix marks that might be included in a font, allow a higher frame height than visually needed.

Barcode icon for Image channels• Clicking the Barcode icon when an Image channel is

selected opens the Barcode Studio Settings window(or issues an error if Barcode Studio application is not installed).– This icon acts as a shortcut: It

automatically selects the channel type to be Dynamic Image and the application to be Barcode Studio.

• Clicking Edit opens the Barcode Studioediting window with improved Save As options. See details on next page.

• For Barcode Studio version 15.4 and later –in the Barcode Studio editing window, when opening the File menu, there are options to Save or Save As Template, specifically for HP SmartStream Designer.

HP Mosaic – improved Seed file settings

• Another Seed setting option added: Position

• Position determines the portion of the Seed file that is selected for every variation.

– Random (default option and the only option in previous Mosaic versions) – each variation is created from a randomly selected area of the Seed file.

– Centered – all the variations are created out of the Seed Center.

Edge Printing – Improvements

• In the Dynamic Image application Edge Printing, the Template Editor window now includes more options:

1. Seed Dimensions (pixels for JPG Seeds, mm/inch for PDF Seeds)

2. Image Rotation option: 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°

3. Thumbnail preview

• The rotation option rotates the content of the Seed file content and adjusts its size to fit the Edge height.

• Note the book drawing below, with “HP” Seed file content on the Bottom Edge, with different rotation options.

• The thin lines represent the book pages and are drawn horizontally.

• The same Seed content can be located on same edge in any of the4 angles: 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°

• In the example, the 90° (or 270°) rotation would accommodate the Seed file text well, for a relatively “thick” book of many pages and still be readable.See illustration below thatemphasizes this.

Edge Printing – Example – opposite to spine edge

1. Design a landscape-shaped image box.

2. Define the box as an Image channel.

3. Rotate the channel using InDesign Object menu > Transform CCW, or CW

CCW CW

4. Change the channel definition to Dynamic Image and select its application to be Edge Printing.

5. In the Edge Printing Template Editor window, assign the Seed file that is originally also landscape shaped.
