HP 2510G/2810/2520G* to HP 2530 CLI Migration Design Guide 3
Introduction
HP customers that currently own HP 2510G/2810/2520G-24G-PoE 10/100/1000 series of switches will notice that additional feature/functionality has been added to the HP 2530 10/100/100 series switch. To try to eliminate confusion, HP has created this document to display commonality as well as differences between the hardware/software platforms, to help customers make a smooth transition from one platform to another.
The intended audience for this Technical Design Guide is technical pre-sales staff including HP Networking Solution Architects, HP Networking Technical Consultants, and HP Networking partner technical pre-sales staff and customers.
Objective
The purpose of this document is to give an overall comparison between the 10/100/1000 series of the HP 2510G/2810/2520G switches and the HP 2530 Switch and list the differences between the HP 2510G/2810/2520-24G-PoE Command Line Interface (CLI) and the HP 2530 Command Line Interface (CLI). Since the hardware and software are different between platforms, there are some CLI commands that have been added to reflect the HP 2530 Switch’s newer hardware features, and commands that have been slightly modified to reflect the HP 2530 Switch’s software required to support the platform. The intent is to help the customer transition from one CLI to another quickly and effectively.
Due to column format limitations, tables will reflect HP 2520G* for the HP 2520-24G-PoE switch

HP has been very successful deploying layer 2 switches for many years and this chart shows the migration from the existing switches that will be replaced by the new 2530 switches. The 2530 switches have been designed to support virtually all of the features of the existing products so that our customers can easily migrate to this new platform.
IEEE 802.3at Power Over Ethernet Plus provides up to 30 W per port for PoE-/PoE+-powered devices such as video IP phones, IEEE 802.11n wireless access points, and advanced pan/zoom/tilt security cameras.
The proliferation of these power hungry devices is exploding so the ability to support those devices is key for many customers.
The 2530 is designed to address this PoE+ requirement with a cost-effective design. The 2530-48G-PoE+ has a power budget of 382Watts for PoE power. This table depicts examples of how many devices can be supported.
The PoE configuration is completely flexible. The only limit is the total PoE budget.
HP 2510G/2810/2520G* to HP 2530 CLI Migration Design Guide 6
The 2530 is available in both 24 and 48 gigabit ports, with or without PoE+. Each switch has 4 SFPs for fiber support.

Option 66 HP switches are initially booted up with the factory-shipped configuration file. This feature provides a way to automatically download a different configuration file from a TFTP server using DHCP Option 66. The prerequisites for this to function correctly are: ■ One or more DHCP servers with Option 66 are enabled ■ One or more TFTP servers has the desired configuration file.

Manager Privilege Commands
Manager level: Provides all Operator level privileges plus the ability to perform system-level actions that do not require saving changes to the system configuration file. The prompt for the Manager level contains only the system name and the “#” delimiter, as shown above. To select this level, enter the enable command at the Operator prompt and enter the Manager password, when prompted.

fault-finder
Format
(config) # fault-finder bad-driver sensitivity low <cr> (config) # fault-finder sensitivity low <cr>
Function/Result
Warn and disable action is available for all fault-finder events on an individual basis. It may be used, for example, to disable a port when excessive broadcasts are received. Because the fault-generated disabling of a port requires operator intervention to re-enable the port, such configuration should be used with care.

(config)# loop-protect trap loop-detected <cr>
Function/Result
Loop protection provides protection against loops by transmitting loop protocol packets out of ports on which loop protection has been enabled. The switch sends out a loop protocol packet & then receives the same packet on a port that has a receiver-action of send-disable configured, & shuts down the port from which the packet was sent.

Function/Result
A global power threshold that applies to all ports on the switch. This setting acts as a trigger for sending a notice when the PoE power consumption on any PoE port installed in the switch crosses the configured global threshold level. (Crossing the threshold level in either direction—PoE power usage either increasing or decreasing—triggers the notice.) The default setting is 80%.
The switches also support some pre-standard PoE devices. Detects and powers pre-802.3af standard devices.
Note: The default setting for the pre-std-detect PoE parameter is “off”

The switch supports SNMP versions 1, 2c, and 3, including SNMP community and trap configuration. The default configuration supports versions 1 and 2c compatibility, which uses plain text and does not provide security options.
HP recommends you enable SNMP version 3 for improved security. SNMPv3 includes the ability to configure restricted access and to block all non-version 3 messages (which blocks version 1 and 2c unprotected operation)

The switch uses the time command to configure both the time of day and the date. Also, executing time without parameters lists the switch’s time of day and date. Note that the CLI uses a 24-hour clock scheme; that is, hour (hh) values from 1 p.m. to midnight are input as 13 - 24, respectively.

Context Configuration Level Commands
You can execute any configuration command in the global configuration mode or in selected context modes. However, using a context mode enables you to execute context-specific commands faster, with shorter command strings.
The switch offers interface (port or trunk group) and VLAN context configuration modes
Port or Trunk-Group Context Commands.
Port or trunk-specific commands apply only to the selected port(s) or trunk group, plus the global configuration, Manager, and Operator commands. The prompt for this mode includes the identity of the selected port(s):
HP Switch(config)# interface 5-8
HP Switch(eth-5-8)#

Function/Result
Same commands available within the global Privilege Level, but now execute context-specific configuration commands, such as
vlan/interface/trk#
HP 2510G/2810/2520G* to HP 2530 CLI Migration Design Guide 168
on a particular VLAN or switch port. This is useful for shortening the command strings you type, and for entering a series of commands for the same context. For a list of available commands, enter ? at the prompt.
