OVERVIEW Mastery Squared’s flagship program is the Mastery Academy. It is a life changing six (6) month learning process for business leaders that focuses on the intersection of business, neuroscience, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness. The Academy rests solidly on two pillars of adult learning – use of a) experiential methodology and b) service orientation that directly benefit company employees through teach-backs, the broader organization through the innovation incubator, and the world at large through an international community service project that is aligned with company goals and branding. Describe overall career and life purpose and intentions. Identify strengths and disruptive tendencies.

Utilize 1-2 memory skills for increased mental agility & focus.

Articulate the most recent discoveries in neuroscience and their relevance & application in the business world.

Define mindfulness, its proven role in sports, and its application to business.

Understand neuro-plasticity - the functions of the brain and how they impact leadership.

Describe the benefits of mind training and how regular training contributes to clarity, focus, sustained performance, and well-being.

Utilize a process for brain re-wiring to better leverage leadership strengths and manage disruptive tendencies.

Perform 4-6 different types of mind training techniques, and create a customized action plan for sustainability.

Apply 2-3 skills to tame the amygdala in order to focus thinking and increase employee and customer satisfaction.

Define and increase capability with regard to the 7 key components of EQ: Self awareness, self regard, self regulation (stress tolerance and impulse control), empathy, interpersonal skills, resilience, and mood (optimism and happiness)

Utilize 2-3 skills to activate the left frontal lobe to increase positive feelings, impact and resilience.

Utilize the following EQ tools: competing intentions, appreciative inquiry, triple loop learning.

Describe the role good sleep & exercise plays in neuro-plasticity & overall health/well being

Utilize 3-4 tools to increase resilience, adaptability, and flexibility in high stress situations.

Understand the impact of diet on neuro-plasticity. Select foods to incorporate/eliminate to optimize performance, clarity & energy.

Apply 8-10 specific tools from neuro-science, emotional intelligence and mindfulness that will increase collaboration and productivity of innovation incubator members. Integrate feedback from peers, coaches, and facilitators.

Describe the role exercise plays in neuro-plasticity through the creation of new neurons.

Use newly integrated knowledge, skills, and capabilities to successfully lead an international community service project.

Assess current behaviors with respect to sleep, diet, exercise, & memory, and create customized action plan for sustained performance and well-being.

Teach employees and colleagues the foundational concepts and skills in neuroscience, emotional intelligence and mindfulness for organizational skill/knowledge transfer.

LEARNING PROCESS ELEMENTS OVERVIEW

Research has found that optimizing adult learning requires the use of multiple learning modalities. Mastery Academy utilizes a unique combination of experiential and cognitive learning modalities designed to maximize sustained change. It is made up of an integrated series of development activities that together and over time produce profound transformation.

We will work with you collaboratively to customize the learning process elements that best fit the context of your organization, capacity and budget.

LEARNING PROCESS ELEMENTS DETAIL

Face to Face Events The program structure incorporate three (3) multi-day events for orientation, skill building, learning & application, and project work as well as one (1) capstone event where participants present the results of their innovation incubator project efforts to an executive committee with decision-making power over continued project funding and resources.

Assessment InstrumentsBest in class assessment tools are used with Academy participants to form a baseline for change including the Academy participant’s starting point, end targets and areas of focus. Assessment instruments go hand-in-hand with coaching engagements to shape a detailed customized action plan for the leader’s six (6) month learning process, goals, and metrics.

CoachingCoaching is the science of self-empowerment where individuals find answers from inside themselves that yield great insight, creativity, and confidence in the possibility and power of lasting change. Using this process supports Academy participants in creating motivation that is self-generated and therefore highly sustainable. Mastery Coaching provides individuals and teams with the ability to raise self-awareness and awareness of others, leverage strengths and get “back-on-track” with respect to disruptive tendencies, accelerate performance, increase effectiveness, and refine professional development

Each Academy participant will have both a “Project Coach” and “Mastery Coach” who will provide insight, perspective, guidance, and relevant tools/resources. The innovation incubator coach will work with teams to get clear on overall project purpose, working agreements, decision-making methods, key milestones, and kick-off for both innovation incubator and service projects. The mastery coach will work with accountability partnerships to ensure that professional and personal action plans, goals, metrics and results are achieved.

Innovation Incubator & Capstone PresentationIn teams, Academy participants will work on your organization’s critical

business opportunities and challenges. Teams will be organized around strategic business challenges identified by senior leaders that have the potential to become future skunk-works projects for the organization.

Through the implementation of the Innovation Incubator, participants will have the opportunity to apply and link their learning in neuroscience, emotional intelligence, resilience and mindfulness directly back to solving real organizational challenges that directly contribute to significant business results. All project plans will be assessed for continuing financial and resource support by the executive sponsor committee at the final face-to-face capstone event.

Service ProjectAcademy participants will complete a “pay it forward” high visibility service project in a region of interest to the organization. Service projects will be selected based on your organization’s overall philanthropic strategy and the needs of a particular region.

WebcastsLeaders participate in 4-5 webcasts in between face to face events to learn new content, discuss application assignment progress, and conduct team business project reviews.

Podcasts, Keynotes, Reading, Application AssignmentsLeaders will complete a number of pod-casts and reading assignments before, during and after workshop events to enhance the learning of Academy core skills and knowledge in neuroscience, emotional intelligence, resiliency and mindfulness. In addition,

application assignments including “teach-backs” will be customized based on individual, team, and organizational goals. These learning process elements will provide the conceptual frameworks necessary to make use of the skills and techniques during the working sessions. Minimum reading requirement is 2-3 books and 6-8 articles over the 6 month learning process. In addition, subject matter experts in the fields of business, neuroscience, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness will be invited to present to Academy participants in face to face and web-cast events to supplement skill building, knowledge transfer, and project viability. We will additionally leverage any e-learning library that your organization subscibes to.

Daily Practice CommitmentsAn essential component of transformation is the daily use of a set of customized practices that will result in rewiring of the brain – “ . . . cells that fire together, wire together.” Mastery Squared’s daily practice commitments is a unique, multi-disciplinary approach to behavior change, and an essential component of transforming mental, emotional, and physical de-railers.

Accountability PartnershipsEach leader will be paired with a fellow Academy participant to provide and receive ongoing developmental feedback, support, and encouragement. This accountability partnership is intended to form a bond of trust with a fellow colleague where delicate and perplexing issues and successes involving daily practice commitments, innovation incubator and service projects, and large group learning can be discussed in a confidential peer setting, and plans can be developed collaboratively to quickly remove obstacles to success.

Cohort CommunityResearch has shown that community support from peers experiencing similar internal changes in behavior, attitude, and belief structures as well as shared external business challenges is essential for significant, long-lasting transformation. Academy participants are trained in and supported by three levels of community at the large team cohort, small team innovation incubator, and dyad accountability partnership levels.
