w Teaching hundreds of youth each week through affordable classes and lessons
w Employing highly trained instructors who are active professional performers in our community’s premier music ensembles and veteran music educators in our area schools
w Giving instruction in strings, winds, brass, music skills, voice, piano and guitar, as well as early childhood music classes, chamber music, orchestras and choirs
w Providing a generous need-based scholarship assistance program
w Maintaining a library of books, recordings, sheet music, fine pianos and harpsichords, and low-cost rental string instruments
w Offering many concerts a year for free or low admission prices
Contributions to the non-profit do not diminish City funding for the Community Music Center.

About CMCThe Community Music Center (CMC) is a program of Portland Parks & Recreation in partnership with the nonprofit Community Music Center, Inc. For over 60 years the Center has achieved its goal of increasing access to high-quality musical activities, especially for those who could not afford them otherwise.
Funds raised by the nonprofit (CMC, Inc.) allow the Center to offer affordable music classes and lessons, free and low-cost concerts and workshops, low-cost instrument rentals, and other music related resources.

training, rhythm training, note-reading, history, theory, and more)$250 an instrument to loan to a student$500 average yearly scholarship per CMC
student (over $60,000 in scholarships were given out last year)
$1000 a year of instrumental lessons for one young musician.
Making a DifferenceParents say that students at CMC show more self-confidence, better listening skills, increased attention spans, academic improvement, and greater participationin the community.
