Some observations…

• People in the class are overwhelmingly against the idea of latching on to trends (65% claim they would have a negative reaction to one)

• 81% of the class claims that an item not being considered cool is not a barrier to them buying it, if they like it.

• 77% of the class believes that people follow trends to fit in more.• 81% also claim that finding out something is out of style does not

mean they will no longer wear that item.

• So… it seems that we believe that we are not the sort to just follow the current trends. The class believes that they do what they want to, regardless of how ‘in’ it is or how ‘cool’ it may seem. The class seems to believe that they are not trend followers – in fact, 88% of all students claim that they are not likely to carry a cane, no matter how cool or trendy it becomes.

• And yet…

• 73% of the class either has, hopes to have, or plans to have a tattoo… why? Are tattoos not trendy?

• Is it possible that we follow trends unthinkingly, and that we are more susceptible to fads than we are able to acknowledge?
