Why are updates important?

Updates are the windows you can use to show the world your work. They’re a way to share your stories so that people can see that your work has real impact. Updates are about communication with people who are interested in you. You and the community on Makerble both care about your project, but it’s not as easy for them to experience it as it is for you. So they need a little help. Your help! Sharing stories.

What to write you ask? Everything that is interesting. Everything that is worth sharing. Everything that enables people to get a little closer to your project, to better understand. And feel free to experiment and try different things. You won’t write perfect updates from day one.

Progress Updates

Progress Updates are very simple. They feature the work that you do day to day. Those moments that get lost in glossy impact reports. The moments you share with family and friends which indicate progress.

Today started the second phase of our life coaching workshop. We’re going to talk about overreaction and the use of behaved communication.

Goal Updates

Goal updates are similar to the progress updates. Their focus is on a step by step breakdown of the project milestones. They can be about aspirational achievements and future goals or celebrations of goals past.

Take 30 minutes of your time and write a letter to young people who are currently in cancer treatment to help them through this hard time. And if you want you can tell them about the Young Person’s Panel and the work we are doing.

Lessons Updates

Lesson updates approach a difficult topic. It’s about failure and how to deal with it. What can be done differently next time? What have you learnt? Failure is part and parcel of every career so share those lessons.

One of our attendees is not happy with our workshop and wants to stop. We’ll try to get him to talk with us about his opinion and we want to figure out a solution

Sometimes the vibe in our meetings isn’t that good. We’ve had arguments. But we were able to get a solution for these argument and remember why this panel is so important.

AudioVisual Updates

AudioVisual describes the style of presenting your update. There can be very different styles of presenting an update properly: Pictures, Videos of all kinds, audio records, text and art. And don’t bother too much about professionalism. Simple mobile phone records can be as effective as high-quality videos.

This update covers the possibility that your project gets funded from somewhere else outside Makerble. Because changing the world is no competition we would like to encourage you to post this as an update, too. This simply shows that other people care about your projects as much as we do.
