‘-아/어 보다’is used to express one’s attempt at doing something. When it’s used in the past tense, it can refer to whetherone has ever attempted at doing something. To express not having attempted,‘못 V-아/어봤어요’pattern is used.

·verb stem’s last vowels ending with‘ㅏ’or‘ㅗ’+ -아봤어요 : 가다→가봤어요

·verbs ending with‘하다’, 하다→해봤어요 : 운전하다→운전해봤어요

‘-았/었을때’is used to describe the point of time that an incident happened.

·verb or adjective stem’s last vowels ending with‘ㅏ’or‘ㅗ’+ -았을때 : 가다→갔을때

·verbs or adjectives ending with‘하다’, 하다→했을때 : 운전하다→운전했을때

·In all other cases, add‘-었을때’: 먹다→먹었을때

V-(으)ㄴ 적(이) 있다/없다

‘- (으)ㄴ 적이 있다’is used when a person has experienced something, and‘-(으)ㄴ 적이 없다’is used when a personhas not experienced something.

·verb stems ending with a vowel + -ㄴ적이있다/없다 : 가다→간적이있다/없다

·verb stems ending with a consonant + -은적이있다/없다 : 읽다→읽은적이있다/없다

‘이’is omissible in‘-(으)ㄴ 적이있다/없다’.

간적이있어요. = 간 적있어요.

‘-(으)ㄴ 적이있다/없다’is often used with‘-아/어보다’in a combined pattern. 가본적이있어요.

Besides‘1일, 2일, 3일, 4일…’, the following words are also used to count days.

‘N이/가어땠어요?’is used to ask the feeling of past experience meaning ‘How was N?’.

여행이어땠어요?

To answer the question, the following expressions are usually used.

아주좋았어요. It was very good. 괜찮았어요. It was OK. 그저그랬어요. It was so-so.

‘N에갔다오다’means ‘to go to N and come back’.

N 전에/후에

‘전에’means ‘ago’used with the words expressing the time, and‘후에’means ‘after (the time)’.

일주일전에한국에왔어요.

한국에서처음식당에갔을때재미있는일이있었어요. 저는식

당에서비빔밥을시켰어요. 그런데아주머니가비빔밥하고여러가

지반찬을저에게주셨어요. 저는반찬을먹고싶었지만돈이많이

없어서반찬을안먹었어요. 비빔밥을다먹었을때아주머니가“왜

반찬을 안 먹었어요? 반찬을 안 좋아해요?”하고 말했어요. 저는

“돈이많이없어요.”하고말했어요. 아주머니가웃었어요. 그리고

“반찬은모두공짜예요.”하고말했어요. 지금은식당에가면항상

아주머니에게“반찬더주세요.”하고말해요.

지난주말에저는한국친구하고같이마이산에갔다왔

어요. 우리는서울에서아침6시쯤출발해서4시간후에마

이산앞에도착했어요. 단풍이아주아름다웠어요. 우리는

단풍을구경하고사진을많이찍었어요.

마이산에는큰절이있었어요. 그절앞에는높은돌탑이

많이있었어요. 그런데바람이많이불었지만돌탑이안무

너져서정말신기했어요. 사람들이높은돌탑옆에서작은

돌탑을만들고있었어요. 제친구가“애니씨도소원이있으면돌탑을만들고소원을말하세요.”하고

말했어요. 저는작은돌하나를돌탑위에놓고“한국어를잘하고싶어요.”하고소원을말했어요. 그

리고우리는산위로갔어요. 날씨가좋아서산아래의호수를볼수있었어요. 정말아름다웠어요.
