Compliment the interior design of your costumer’s home with custom made window treatments

The entire look and feel of a room can change dramatically with the

addition of Made-to-Measure soft window treatments. Just by adding

these, you can create a luxurious, warm and comfortable feel

Made-to-Measure window treatments start with the correct measurement of the window. This guide is an overview on how to measure the different tre-atments, as well as some guidelines to help your costumers choose the right treatment for their window.

Since “Made-to-Measure curtains are made to your exact specifications, it is imperative that the measurements be made with the greatest of care.

If you are measuring the width and drop (length) of a window we would recommend taking at least three measurements at different points.

Windows are not always absolutely square - especially older windows - and therefore the width and length can vary.

Measure each window separately even when they appear to be the same size. Double check all measurements for accuracy.

Watch out for window sills, heaters and other obstacles. Curtains and blinds have to hang free.

Whether you are measuring for rods, tracks,

curtains or blinds, always use a metal measuring

tape - never use fabric as it can stretch and

give an inaccurate reading.

How to measure ?

Understanding your window

To understand how to measure, you need to know a little about your windows and decide where you would like to place yous window furnishings.

Ways to hang curtains or blinds

Inside Mount installationInside mounting is where the curtains or blind are installed inside the window frame

Outside Mount installationA outside mounting is where the curtains or blind are installed on or above the window frame.

- Start by looking at the window to decide where you want your curtains to go.- If it is a recessed window, do you want the curtains to hang within the recess or outside the frame?- Remember that headings like tab top, rod pocket and grommets only work on a rod.

Tracks & RodsWe recommend installing the tracks or rods before measuring for curtains. It makes a more accurate measurement.

Tracks - outside mountMeasure the width of the window from corner to corner

Sometimes you will need to add or deduct inches/cm’s from the measurements. It is easy if you follow the steps.

Add to the measurement

To maximize your outside view and you have available space, we recommend adding an additional 8 ” / 20 cm to both sides to allow the curtains to stack back.

If you only have space on one side of the window, we advise adding an additio-nal 16“ / 40 cm to allow the complete curtain to stack back on one side.

Rods - outside mountMeasure the width across the top of the window from left to right. Place the rods at least 4” / 10 cm above the window.

Deduct from the measurement

Deduct 0.4” / 1 cm from the measurement to allow the curtain to hang free.

How to measure your curtains

After you have installed your rod or track, you are ready to measure for curtains. Measurements vary by heading. See below how to measure for each separate heading. When ordering, please specify if the curtains have to be made as a set, or if the curtain is to stack in one direction

Width:Measure the total width of your track or rod (excluding the finials). For all hea-dings we recommend adding ½” per 40 inches slack ensure a nice closure.

Length:Measurements of the length are dependable on the heading.

1. If you prefer your curtains to hang below the sill, we re commend ad ding an additional 4”/10 cm in length.

2. With our state-of-the-art hook system, you will still have the ability to adjust the hook higher, or lower should you so require. (approximately 2 inches)

Tips:

For pleated curtains on a rodMeasure from the bottom of the curtain ring to the sill or floor.

Measuring blinds

To determine if a blind is more suitable for an inside or outside mount, be aware of the following:

• Recess depth– blinds need a mimimum of 1.8”/4.5 cm for the headrail• Are there any obstructions like window handles or spindels?• The window frame used• Special window types – tilted, sliding doors etc• When you are working with a cornered window, for example a bay or bow window, we advise you to work with an inside mount.

Sometimes you will need to add or deduct from measurements. It is easy if you follow the steps.

Blinds - outside mount framed window

Add a minimum of 2”/5 cm on both sides to block light.

Top: Add at least 4”/10 cm to the measurement to ensure proper fixing of the blind.

Optional: When the window is not to the floor, extend the length with an additional 6”/15 cm below the window to block light when closed.

Blinds - outside mount without frame

Width:Measure the width of the window from outer corner to outer corner.

Length:Measure the drop from the top of the window to the bottom of the sill or the floor. Measure both sides of the window.

Deduct ¼” /0.5 cm from the measure-ment to allow for clearance. We will make the exact size you give us.

If there are large variations in your width or

length measurements, we recommend using an

outside mount.
