Planning The study

Plan Ahead. Plan blocks of 40 to 60 min. study. Gap of few min after each block

Walk or exercise or memorize, etc. Check back the target every one hour. Study the difficult in fresh mood. Figures, sketches may be taken in

between period of the blocks.

Text book study

Know your text book completely Know what chapters contains Study each chapter as a whole First read through entire chapter. Fast. Then read Through Titles and subtitles. Read the subtitle, Stop. Think what is the

central idea. Mark few important items. Be selective. Work your way through each subsection,

Reading, thinking, marking. Go over it again…repeat, repeat, repeat.

Create your own notes Main heading on top. Subtitles in the margin. High lightened Points in front of them including definitions. Finally cover the points and see if you recollect

Example of good notes writing

Title– Digestion in humans Oral cavity: contains teeth, tongue,

salivary glands, palate,etc. Teeth : helps chewing and crushing food Tongue: moves the food in oral cavity . helps swallow the food bolus. Salivary glands: secretes saliva. saliva gives fluid medium to mix

the food digests carbohydrates.

Studying from book and notes

Be your teacher- prepare mock question. Answer without looking. Correct your errors. If you are reading functions of saliva, Then ask first what are the functions of saliva. If you are studying the transmission of the sound

then ask how the sound is transmitted. Never forget How, Why, What, When, Who,etc.

SQ4R Method for notes

1) Survey: Survey the book Survey the chapter.

Tables, charts, contents, questions at the end of chapter.

2) Questions: Answer all and more questions. Think which more questions can be asked

in examination. And prepare them.

4 R’s

Read, Recall, Write, Reviews. 1) Read: Keep the questions in mind as

you read and attempt to answer them while reading. Read again and again. The next day lecture should be read on

prior day. Immediately coming form the school the

home work should be completed and the taught portion should be studied.

4 R’s

Recall: recall what is read every 10 min. Write: Jot down the important points,

major ideas, clues, etc. Reviews: of what has been completed

and what is to be completed.

Very useful to memorize the lists Helps to keep the sequence. Frequently used. For ex.

Write down the key Idea. Think up various key

points. Depict them as branches

flowing out of the main idea.

Use your own key words. Thickness should be

reduced from start to last. Use single color for the

one idea.
