How to stay safe online
Data protection Act 1998The Data Protection Act was developed to give protection and lay down rules about how data about people can be used.
The 1998 Act covers information or data stored on a computer or an organised paper filing system about living people.
Computer Misuse Act in 1990
With more and more organisations using computers to store and process personal information there was a danger the information could be misused or get into the wrong hands. A number of concerns arose:
Who could access this information?
How accurate was the information?
Could it be easily copied?
Was it possible to store information about a person without the individual’s knowledge or permission?
Was a record kept of any changes made to information?
Copyright Act 1988When you buy software, for example, copyright law forbids you from:
• giving a copy to a friend
• making a copy and then selling it
• using the software on a network (unless the licence allows it)
• renting the software without the permission of the copyright holder
The law that governs copyright in the UK is called the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
Health and safety Act in 1974
You must provide a safe and healthy environment for all your employees and take their welfare needs into account. However, this doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming. This applies to a very wide range of workplaces, not only factories, shops and offices but also, for example, schools, hospitals, hotels and places of
entertainment.
The risk of using the Internet
Risks from viruses
Risks can also come from popular social networking sites. Be aware of messages containing links to current events, entertainment, or other high
traffic content.
Risks from hackers They will hijack your usernames and passwords
They can teal your money and open credit card and bank accounts in your name

The will request new account Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) or additional credit cards
Make purchases
The will also use and abuse your Social Security number
They will also sell your information to other parties who will use it for illicit or illegal purposes
Fraud and theft
Fraudsters can use your identity details to:
Open bank accounts. Obtain credit cards, loans and state benefits.
Order goods in your name. Take over your existing accounts. Take out mobile phone contracts.
Obtain genuine documents such as passports and driving licences in your name.
Risk of injury if you spend during hours on the
computer
Have a comfortable and proper chair while your are on the computer Make sure that your computer is protected
Don’t be too close to the computer in case if the computer get electrical accident so you can escape while moving your chair easily without be injured.
You can also get eye problem while spending a hours on it.

When using the internet, there are many dangers that you face such as;
You could suffer a virus attack from individuals or gangs who send random virus to people
You could loose money from these people as they may steal information from your computer including bank details.
This could lead to a great deal of emotional stress and anxiety

Steal money from you
