You will need to upload a copy of the information (see instructions) to your ASHA Season Registration so our registrars can verify.

o A manual link may need to be provided if you are 17 years old on of before 12/31/2021. Please request a link by contacting [email protected]

If you HAVE completed your NCIS background screening & abuse prevention training through

ASHA or USA Hockey in the past 12 months. Have .PDF copies of your NCIS Report and abuse training certificates

ready when you start your 2021/2022 Season Registration.

will need to upload a .PDF copy of the information (see instructions in FAQ’s) to your ASHA Season Registration so our registrars can verify compliance. (We cannot accept screen shots of e-mails)

If you are requesting an accommodation for an athlete: There is no written

exemption or included the law for disabilities, and there is an increased focus on abuse prevention and education. Your understanding and support is key to ensure safety for all participants. ASHA strongly recommends that ALL Athletes age 17 or older make an attempt to comply with the Safe Sport Act of 2017 regulations. We believe that the abuse prevention training is in the best interest and safety of all athletes.

ASHA will provide reasonable accommodations due to disability and will track any requests for accommodation through our registration process.

Accommodations: We understand that the abuse prevention training may be difficult or considered inappropriate for some athletes.

Choice A: To support their athlete’s unique needs, Parents/Guardians are encouraged to register as a volunteer with their team, and certify that they will share the content of the abuse prevention training with their athlete in an appropriate manner.

Choice B: We respectfully request that registrants submit a “Request for Accommodation” ONLY after carefully considering options with their head coach/team manager.

All “Request for Accommodation” forms should include a reasonable description and explanation for the request (i.e. please give a reason for request – not just a diagnosis).

All “Request for Accommodation” forms must be printed and be hand signed prior to submitting a copy as a .PDF or .JPG. The original copy must be given to your team manager.

Blank or unsigned requests cannot be accepted.

Exemptions from this education & training Policy may be made on a case-by-case basis for victims/survivors. Requests may be made directly to the U.S. Center for SafeSport at [email protected].

Detailed Instructions are included in the FAQ’s Document.

Regardless of which option works best for your needs, all registrants must make sure that they have fully submitted their Season Registration, so it can be “edited” to upload documents

(Frequently Asked Questions) Page 2

How Do I Comply With The “Safe Sport Act” Requirements: All participants whether they are an Athlete, Volunteer or Coach age 17 (on or before 12/31/21) or older must complete a background screening

and abuse prevention training to comply with compliance with the Federal Safe Sport Act Regulations.

Coaches & Volunteers have two ways in which they can comply. (See option 1 or option 2 below)

Athletes: In an effort to support our “Over 17 Athletes” unique needs, we have three options to support your compliance. (See option 1, option 2 or option 3 below)

Option 1: Follow the prompts to complete the NCSI Background Screen & Abuse Prevention Training (takes about 75 minutes) and be sure to SAVE your training certificate as a .pdf.

After completing you MUST return to the Registration. Choose “Yes” when asked if the player has completed the Background Screening and Abuse Training. Then Choose “Option 2” to upload a copy of your receipt from the NCSI Background Screening Receipt (temporary) & Abuse Prevention Training Certificate.

If needed, guardians may assist athletes with the training. When the background screening has been processed (in 7 to 10 days) – you will be able to view the report and save as a .PDF You

can download it by editing your registration.

Option 2: If the registrant completed the NCSI background screening & abuse prevention training during the 2020/2021 or previously for 2021/2022 season you may upload your certificates as proof of compliance.

We will accept current USA Hockey certificates (We cannot accept screen shots of eligibility). Please note that we accept these as a courtesy to our members. We will still need to verify your eligibility status.

A copy of your abuse prevention training certificate is provided to you at the end of your training session. Please save a .PDF copy (Please do not send us a link, as your registration file will need a .pdf copy uploaded)

To view your NCSI Report, open your NCSI Registration, under Background screening, look for “Status” and Click on> View Report.

Option 3/Guardian: (Player/Athletes Only) The Parent/Guardian may enroll as a volunteer, complete the Background Screening & Abuse Prevention Training and support the Player/Athlete take the Abuse Training about its contents and meaning. We will accept a “Request for Accommodation Form” documenting participation with a parent/guardian.

Option 3/Accommodations: In cases where the parent/guardian cannot enroll as a volunteer and requires an accommodation because player/athlete is unable to participate in abuse prevention training compliance through Option 1, Option 2 or Option 3 as described above, they may submit a “Request for Accommodation form” by Choosing Option 3 for the Abuse Prevention Training.

Is there a “waiver” for athletes over the age of 17 for the background screening and abuse prevention training?

NO, BUT ASHA and its member teams will consider “Requests for Accommodation” for the Abuse Prevention Training under

specific circumstances.

ASHA recommends that ALL Athletes over the age of 17 (as of 12/31/21) make a “reasonable” attempt to comply with abuse training mandates. We believe that the information presented is in the best interest and safety of all athletes.

o Exemptions from the Education & Training may be made on a case-by-case basis for victims/survivors. Requests may be made

directly to the U.S. Center for Safe Sport at [email protected]. o Every request for accommodation is independently and carefully considered by ASHA in coordination with the member team head

coach and team manager. As a general guideline, if an athlete is independently submitting a registration; OR can make reasonable independent daily life decision (Example: hold a driver’s license/ drives a car and can understand general traffic rules) a request for accommodation may not be considered appropriate.

o Coaches and Team Managers May NOT complete the “request for accommodation form” (or registration) on behalf of any player/athlete. The form will only be considered when completed and signed.

o We cannot accept a “USA Hockey Waiver or Request for Accommodation”, ASHA WILL ONLY ACCEPT the ASHA “Request for Accommodation” form.

o We CAN accept a current USA Hockey NCIS background screening report and safe sport certificate as proof of compliance. o Coaches and Volunteers are not eligible for exemption/accommodation for the abuse prevention training or background screenings. o The form must be downloaded, carefully filled out, and signed by both the parent/guardian and team representative and uploaded.

This form cannot be “filled in” online. o Submitting the form does not guarantee that the request will be accepted.

My Background Screening is Still Pending. What Do I Do? Please Contact NCSI at Phone: 866-996-7412 (option 1) Email: [email protected]

How Do I Complete The Abuse Prevention Training Only?.
