There are primarily two types of lampshades:

–Hardback

– Softback


Hardback Lampshades

• Either plastic/styrene or paper backed lampshades with fabric being laminated to the exterior

• Generally less expensive

• Life expectancy: 10-15 years

• Easy to clean

• Fabric lined and consist of a full steel frame

• More expensive in price

• Life expectancy: 20+ years

• Easy to clean


There are 3 key measurements to take

into account when shopping for your

replacement lampshade, whether you have a

hardback or softback.


1. The diameter of the top of the lamp shade

2. The diameter of the bottom of the lamp shade

3. The length of the side of the lamp shade
