Tips
• Find a location where hummingbirds like to feed. • Hummingbirds are skittish, move slowly and
quietly • Use a long lens that will focus down to very close • Shoot a lot and throw away a lot. • Use a strobe to fill and help stop motion • Be patient, hummingbird behavior will often
show a pattern….watch and learn. • Use NIMH batteries in flash to speed recycle time

Recommended Camera Settings
• ISO 1000 or faster • F/11 or smaller if you want most of the birds
body in focus • Shutter speed 1/1250 second or faster • Set your camera to high speed sync • White balance to auto or 5000k, touch up in post • Set focus to continuous if plenty of light, or set
to manual and pick a distance that fills the frame with the subject.
