How to modify the model number of new WD ROYL drives

What’s the new about the model number of new WD ROYL drives?Let’s take the following new WD ROYL drive as one example: WD20EARS

Model number is usually stored in the Module 2 and with the former versions of HD

Doctor for WD; it’s very easy to modify the model number successfully by several simple clicks. The following is to modify the model number of one old WD drive-Black I-WD800BB-00JHC0. We are going to change it to WD800BB-00JHC1.




But for new WD ROYL hard drives, we find the following result:




So, we failed to change the model number from WD2003FYYS-ABC001 to




WD2003FYYS-ABC002 with the former version of WD doctor.

After a research on the new hard drive, we found out, the model number has not been stored in the same place as old drives, but in the ROM module D—000D

So we decided to upgrade HD Doctor for WD to version 4.3. Now let’s use HD Doctor for WD Version 4.3 to modify the model number of the new WD hard drive:




Now, we are able to change the model number from WD2003FYYS-ABC001 to WD2003FYYS-ABC000 with the new version of WD doctor 4.3.
