Scripture quotations in this book are taken from a variety of translations including the King
James Version, the New King James Version and the Literal Translation of the Bible. These
versions are all based on the Received Text. Only ever meditate from Received Text
translations. Why eat junk food when you can chew on the finest meat?
In this book I have followed the practice of using the Divine Name instead of the scribes’
substitute. This will be in Scripture verses as YHWH or Jehovah. I have also substituted the
word “nations for “Gentiles”.

BENEFITS OF MEDITATING THE WORD
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein
day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for
then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
JOSHUA 1:8
Meditating the Word of God brings benefits that all the world is searching for. In Joshua
chapter 1, God is giving Joshua instructions on how to lead the nation of Israel. Joshua had to
follow Moses in the ministry. That is a tall order, to follow the man who opened the Red Sea.
Moses had a power rod. When he threw it down, it turned into a snake; when he picked the
snake up, it turned back into a rod. He struck a rock with the rod (probably the Bethel Stone)
and out of the rock poured water enough to slake the thirst of many thousands of people. And,
of course, he parted the Red Sea with the rod. Moses had a power rod ministry.
You can imagine Joshua thinking, “I need to get me one of those power rods to lead these
people.” But God didn’t have a power rod for Joshua; He had something far greater for him!
That greater thing was God’s Word in Joshua’s mouth.
God told Joshua to put the Book of the Law in his mouth constantly and he would succeed in
his calling as Commander-in-Chief of Israel. The power rod ministry did mighty things,
including one of history’s greatest miracles, the parting of the Red Sea. But it didn’t take
Israel into the Promised Land. It was a man who meditated God’s Word day and night who
brought Israel into the land of plenty.
If you are looking for a miracle to put you over all the time, you are somebody looking for a
power rod. This is baby Christianity. You need to quit looking for a miracle and start being
the miracle. Meditating the Word of God is the secret to success in life. Joshua’s ministry was
full of miracles too, but his source of power was different. Moses had the rod of God but this
was a temporary measure to get the nation free. The rod represents a method or a formula;
meditating God’s Word is a principle. Not every Israelite could wield the rod, only Moses and
Aaron. However, meditating the Word was a principle anyone could follow. Men must not be
led by magic symbols or techniques but by eternal principles. Moses’ rod was a weapon in his
hands but the Word of God is a weapon in the mouth of anyone who speaks it.
Joshua had the first five books of Scripture to meditate; we in the Christian era have sixty-
one more. This means we have much more than Joshua had to put us over into our rest. No
city walls could stop Joshua. He even took dominion over the sun on one occasion. How
much more should we be able to do with a thicker Bible than Joshua to work with! If he was
an unstoppable force because of meditating the Word, how much more should we be?
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the
way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of YHWH; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in
his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
PSALM 1:1-3
The blessed man is he who meditates the Word of God. To be blessed Scripturally doesn’t
mean somebody said something nice to you or sent you a card with a cute message. It means
4
to be empowered to succeed with every resource at the blesser’s disposal. It means that even
if you were the dumbest person ever to walk the earth, God would make sure you never went
out of business AND give you a million pounds a week in salary. In short, it means you are
immune to failure. The man blessed of God simply cannot fail.
This man brings forth fruit in his season. Two things are to be noted here. Firstly, this man
operates God’s law of sowing and reaping. He understands times and seasons. He understands
that to reap a harvest, you have to sow seed. Secondly, the fruit comes in its season. There is
fruit, not just foliage. And it is a timely harvest, not coming too early or too late. Meditating
God’s Word aligns you to God’s timetable and puts you in a cycle of blessing.
The blessed man is like a tree. He is solid and secure. He has a root system that deeply
grounds him. He is rooted in the earth, meaning that he is practical and valuable, not just a
whimsical dreamer. Also, he doesn’t exist just for himself; others can rest in his shade.
He is by the rivers of water. This means he is constantly refreshed. His source is clean
running water, not a stagnant, dead pond.
His leaf does not wither. This actually has the meaning of falling away in disgrace. The man
who meditates God’s Word is not a shooting star; his glory doesn’t fade. He doesn’t fall away
in shame but stays strong and splendid consistently.
Whatever he does shall prosper. This man has the Midas touch. Yes, there is a touch of the
spectacular in this but it isn’t only in the big dramatic things; this man gets it right in the small
things too. A marked feature of this blessed man is that he does everything right. If you check
him out at intervals over a period of time, he is making steady progress, as well as the
frequent breakthrough or quantum leap forward.
This man is a success because he is blessed i.e. God has chosen to favour him and practically
force him to succeed. And he is blessed because he has dedicated himself to being an addict to
meditating the Word of God.
If you dedicate yourself to meditating God’s Word, the blessings of the blessed man are
yours to walk in. That is spiritual law. Stop looking for power rods and new anointings. Start
doing things God’s way. Meditate the Word constantly and you will get to a place where
whatever you do will prosper. You will be the miracle dispenser in your world. You will be
the person who blesses your community. You will be the one they all come to for help and
advice and healing and blessing.
Praise ye YHWH. Blessed is the man that feareth YHWH, that delighteth greatly in his
commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of
compassion, and righteous.
A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in YHWH.
His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.
He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his
horn shall be exalted with honour.
The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the
desire of the wicked shall perish.
PSALM 112
5
This Psalm is another picture of the blessed man. This is a man who delights greatly in
YHWH’s commandments. This is definitely someone who meditates the Word.
This man’s seed is mighty and blessed. This means family blessing, actually dynastic
blessing. Wealth and riches are in this man’s house. Also, his righteousness endures, meaning
that he maintains right relationship with Jehovah even though he is rich. Because he meditates
the Word, his prosperity doesn’t ruin him; he is immune to the love of money. This means
that meditating the Bible is the key to preventing evil taking root in your life (see 1 Timothy
6:10).
This man shows favour to others and is in a position to lend. He looks after his affairs with
good judgment. He shall not be moved for ever. This means he will be stable and firm. He is
like a rock. When others around him are breaking, he is just as strong as ever. Why? Because
he meditates God’s Word. His influence lives on after his death. He is remembered forever as
being a strong, righteous man.
He doesn’t fear bad news; it cannot move him because his inner man is fixed, trusting in
Jehovah. This means that meditating the Word gives us a stability nothing else can. Rather
than getting into fear, this blessed man stays strong in spirit until victory over his enemies is
manifest. He will see this victory with his own eyes. This man is a giver. He is a dispenser to
the poor. This means he is a sower or scatterer of blessings. Everywhere he goes, he is a
blessing. He isn’t a briber or a manipulator with money; he is always right and proper in his
giving.
His horn is exalted with honour. This signifies his power, strength and influence. His
reputation grows as being a good, solid, trustworthy man. God makes his name great. Of
course, this is part of the Abrahamic blessing, as are all the benefits of the blessed man. The
blessed man walks in the covenant of Abraham. By meditating the Word constantly, he is
upholding his end of the covenant.

THE PRACTICE OF BIBLE MEDITATION
Bible meditation is primarily a spiritual exercise, not a mental one. In fact, a major purpose
in meditating God’s Word is to bypass the mental faculties and edify the spirit man. You often
have to switch off the critical aspect of the conscious mind in meditating the Word. Your
objective in meditation is to ingest spiritual substance. You are effectively cramming the spirit
life in God’s Word into your spirit.
When you eat physical food, you do not regulate its intake and distribution to the various
part of your body in a conscious way. You don’t consciously break down and assimilate the
food and process the waste elements; this is all done at an unconscious level. When you eat,
you trust your body and its digestive processes to provide necessary fuel and energy for you
to go about your life. Likewise, your spirit man knows how to extract the necessary nutrients
from meditation of God’s Word to enable and empower you to live supernaturally.
God’s Word is supernatural food. It is meat for the spirit man. This is the real YOU inside.
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of
God.
MATTHEW 4:4
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto
you, they are spirit, and they are life.
JOHN 6:63
Man does not live by natural food alone. This is only natural sustenance. No, man needs
spirit food to live a supernatural life, that is, a life above and beyond the natural. What comes
out of God’s mouth is food for the spirit man. When you take God’s Word and feed it to your
spirit man, you grow spiritually. This is why any believer can become a spiritual giant. You
can be a million times bigger on the inside than you are on the outside; all you have to do is
put the Word in your mouth. This Word is miracle food. If you want to live a life full of
miracles, you simply have to take the time to eat and eat and eat.
I like what one preacher said. He said your spirit is like a goldfish; if you keep feeding it, it
will just keep growing. In the natural, of course, you can eat too much. If you do, you will get
flabby. But the spirit is different. The more you eat, the more your capacity to receive grows.
Goldfish can get very fat. Their capacity to eat more is very large. Your spirit capacity to eat
more of God’s Word is limited on this planet by just one thing: time. Your ability to conquer
time pressures is your greatest asset in meditating God’s Word. NEVER fit God’s Word into
your schedule. ALWAYS build your schedule around God’s Word. Every day you live you
have no more important business than meditating God’s Word. If you think you do, put this
book aside in a safe place because one day you are going to need it.
It is the spirit that quickeneth, that gives life. The spirit life in the Word of God is what you
need. The flesh profits nothing. In other words, your human opinion counts for nothing. The
NEVER fit God’s Word into your schedule
ALWAYS build your schedule around God’s Word
7
mindless drivel you watch on television won’t heal your body or supernaturally empower you
to prosper. But God’s Word built in to your spirit man will do all that and much more.
Cramming that Word into your spirit until it comes out of your mouth like a Gatling gun and
annihilates every obstacle in your pathway is really the only key in life you need to know to
succeed.
God created every human to be an addict. What we call addictions are perversions of the
God-program built into us which would propel us to success. The word “addict” comes from a
Latin word from which we get the word “dictation” i.e. speech. God made us to be addicted to
speaking life i.e. His Word. Anything else is bondage. True addiction is addiction to God and
His Word. All other “addictions” are addictions to death. But addiction to speaking God’s
Word is addiction to Life. His Word is Life.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein
day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for
then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
JOSHUA 1:8
This verse in Joshua gives us the simple how of Bible meditation. It is this: keep God’s
Word in your mouth constantly. It is not enough to just read the Bible. It is not even enough to
study the Word. We must not let it depart out of our mouths. On the contrary, we are to
meditate the Word day and night i.e. constantly.
This is where we encounter the biggest misconception of Bible meditation. It is not like
pagan forms of meditation which focus on the mental side. Bible meditation is a spiritual
exercise but it is primarily vocal. The Hebrew word for “meditate” in this verse is hagah. The
Strong’s definition for hagah is as follows:
H1897 הגה
A primitive root (compare H1901); to murmur (in pleasure or anger); by implication to ponder: - imagine, meditate, mourn, mutter, roar, X sore, speak, study, talk, utter.
As you can see, this word has a primarily vocal meaning. It means to murmur in pleasure i.e.
coo to oneself. Here is the Heritage Bible version of Joshua 1 verse 8:
This book of the law shall not be withdrawn from being present in your mouth; but you
shall murmur in pleasure in it day and night, so that you hedge about to do according to
all that is written in it, because then you shall prosper in your way, and then you shall be
intelligently successful.
JOSHUA 1:8 Heritage Bible
These notes come from The Heritage Bible:-
1:8 be withdrawn from being present is one word in Hebrew, muwsh, and means to withdraw or give way and not be present. It means to give up occupied territory. God commands us not to allow His Word
to be withdrawn from occupying the territory of our mouth.
1:8 murmur in pleasure, hagah. The main meaning of hagah is to growl in delight over one’s food, as a lion growls in pleasure as he eats his food. It is also used of the cooing of doves. Here it means to murmur
or mutter sounds of delight as you meditate on the Word of God.
8
It is vital to keep the Word of God in your mouth. It is your very LIFE to do so. Notice also
that speaking God’s Word is to be a pleasurable activity, not a drudge. This same Hebrew
word hagah is used in Psalm 1:2 where the blessed man meditates day and night. Spending
our time murmuring the Word should bring constant pleasure to us.
My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in YHWH.
PSALM 104:34
The word “meditation” in the verse above is from another Hebrew word which has a
principally vocal meaning. The Heritage Bible again gives us a clearer idea:-
My uttered contemplation of him shall be sweet; I will rejoice in Jehovah.
PSALM 104:34 Heritage Bible
We are beginning to see here that meditation in the Bible is not the same as it is in a pagan or
psychological context. Meditation Biblically is speech-oriented. It is about bypassing the
mental faculties and taking dominion over them. God has made us in such a way that our
tongue is the rudder of our life. Your spirit is the pilot; it is the decider. Yet your tongue must
be the rudder. You speak from the heart, from the spirit man. Your tongue then dictates the
course to follow. In the carnal Christian, it is the unrenewed mind or the soulish passions that
direct the tongue. The carnal Christian speaks from the soul, not the spirit.
In a practical way it works like this: you think wrong and you want to change. So what do
you do to change? Simple! You change what you think by speaking the Word over and over
until it fills your spirit man. Then it will change your mind. You don’t change the mind by
mental exercises; you change it by continually speaking the Word of God. Your mind is
subject to what you say. If you speak the Word, it will change your thinking. The mind is
renewed by speaking the Word over and over.
We have been taught that imagination is the key, that we are to “visualize” and “picture”
ourselves as being, doing and having what we want. There is some merit in this. However,
God has designed man to respond to words. God’s Word is full of Life, Faith, Joy, Peace,
Love etc. These are spiritual forces that change us from inside. God’s Word is alive. It
contains the Life of God Himself.
For the Word of God is living, and powerfully working, and sharper than every two-
edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of both soul and spirit, of both joints and
marrow, and able to judge of the thoughts and intentions of the heart;
HEBREWS 4:12 LITV
When you speak the Word of God, you are putting the very zoe life of God in your mouth.
You are speaking LIFE Himself into your heart. If you keep doing this, that LIFE will take
over your life and circumstances, changing them to conform to His will. Meditating the Word
is not about the mind but about the spirit. It goes deeper, dividing spirit and soul. It even gets
into your very marrow, which means it brings LIFE into your very body and bloodstream. The
life of the body is in the blood and God’s Word injects His zoe Life into our very blood! This
Life is Abundant, Eternal and Irrepressible.
9
This is why it is vital to speak no vain or lifeless words. Speaking the Word to ourselves
means that we are not speaking death, sickness and poverty upon ourselves. I don’t want that
stuff in my heart, do you? If not, then don’t speak those things! Don’t curse yourself; instead
speak the Word of God and bless yourself and those around you. This doesn’t mean we get
weird about quoting Scripture all the time. It just means we frame our speech to line up with
His blessing Word.
The Word is a blessing Word. It will empower you and force you to be a success every time.
If you put the Word inside you, it will do all the work. It will pay all your bills and keep you
strong, healthy and free. You need to cease from your own works and let the Word take the
strain. The just shall live by faith, not by striving. Faith is the victory that puts you over in
life. Why fret and strive? The only labour you are called to is to take the time to meditate.
That’s it! Read Hebrews chapter 4. What is your place in this entering into rest? Simply speak
the Word. It is the Word that does the miracles.
Long ago I learned I wasn’t up to it, this being a good Christian. I am the worst sorry excuse
for a Christian that ever walked the earth. That is, in my own might. Paul learned this. He
said, “I am the least of all saints.” I don’t try to be a good Christian now. My only part is to
keep the Word in my mouth and heart. I have seen that Word do some amazing things. Things
I could not do. But I don’t have to do them. This is a life of no pressure! It’s very easy. If I
can’t do them and He doesn’t do them, they won’t get done. This is the believer’s rest. I can
assure you, it sure beats performance-based religion. I am not saying there is no responsibility
or stewardship. But when it is the Word in you that is taking the strain, as the song goes,
“Man, that’s really living!”
You are responsible for keeping your faith level at a high mark. But you are not responsible
for creating the faith itself. So many Christians are trying to produce faith. But faith is in
abundant supply! You don’t have to make it – it’s in His Word! Just open your mouth wide
and fill up your spirit tank with faith fuel from God’s Living Word. How much do you want?
There’s no shortage! You can have all the blessings you want if you will just do your part and
meditate the supply Word. The believer’s only task is to keep the Word in his/her mouth all
the time.
“Yes, but we are commanded to love one another,” someone will say. Yet you won’t do it
unless you are full of His Word.
“We are to give to the poor.” You never will without faith. And faith comes by hearing and
hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).
“ We are to live holy.” You can only do so if you renew your mind. And the mind is
renewed by meditating what God said.
All the rules we make are byproducts of meditating the Word. If you would but put in the
time and effort in meditating Scripture, the living it out would be much easier. We are often
told the Christian life is hard. Of course, in this world we will undoubtedly have tribulation;
the Master said so. But I know from my own experience that many of my own hardships have
been self-inflicted and stem from a plain lack of meditating the Word. Time and time again I
have proved that, when things are tough, if I start to meditate Scripture more, the problems
melt away. The whole world is looking for a magic formula and we have had it all along! It
has – quite literally – been under our nose i.e. speaking God’s Word constantly.
When you meditate the Word, a great deal of the fight we pride ourselves on fighting is
taken away. Meditating the Word is sweatless prosperity. It is drinking from wells we didn’t
10
dig and living in fine houses we didn’t build. So many Christians want to get medals for
“striving in the faith” but the glorious reality is that we don’t have to! It is not our efforts that
count, anyway; it is Him working in us. It is the faith of God that moves the mountain. By
mercy and truth (the Word) iniquity is purged, not by our pious exertions. We live by the faith
of the Son of God, not by our own efforts.
Bible meditation puts you in position to receive what you need from the Lord. Remember
those old Popeye cartoons? When Popeye needed strength he would gulp down the spinach,
then he could do superhuman feats. It wasn’t really Popeye that was strong; it was the spinach
in him that did the work. That’s what meditating the Word is like. It is His Word in you that
makes you strong. Of course, you have the indwelling Spirit of God in you. He is Almighty
and All-knowing. But just because He lives in us does not mean we don’t have to feed on the
Word. In fact, if He is in you, He will lead you and guide you to the Word. If He is in you, He
will prompt you to meditate Scripture more and more.
The meditation of God’s Word is primarily a matter of speech. It is speaking the Word over
and over to yourself in a low voice. Interestingly, the Hebrew word for “speak” is dabar, from
which we get the name Deborah. Deborah means “bee”. This alludes to organization and
command. Bees are highly organized and industrious. You know when bees are present
because you can hear them hum. The word dabar can mean “to speak with a command”.
Deborah means “bee” but can also be broken down to mean “mouth of command” or “voice
of authority”. The reason I am saying this is because it is clear from looking into the Hebrew
that speaking in a low, monotonous voice is the sound of a person meditating Scripture. In
short, something akin to a bee humming!
When you meditate the Word over and over, you are edifying your spirit and developing
yourself to a place where, when you release your faith in words, you speak with a voice of
authority! The Word you speak goes from your mouth into your heart and, as you do this
repeatedly, you literally create a dynamo between your mouth and spirit. The word “dynamo”
comes from the Greek dunamis, which means “power”. You are powering up your faith when
you speak God’s Word. Of course, the sound of a dynamo is very similar to that of a bee –
they both hum!
As you keep speaking the Word in a low voice, you are becoming a spiritual dynamo of faith
and faith is the victory that overcomes the world.
It is important to point out that meditation is not always done in a low, monotonous voice.
You can roar the Word as loud as you like. However, it helps to focus your concentration if
you see yourself as a human dynamo, powering up your spirit man by speaking the Word over
and over and over. Very often you can do this under your breath as you go about your daily
routine.
“I can do all things through Christ
who strengthens me…YHWH is my
Shepherd, I shall not want …And my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by
Christ Jesus…”
11
All you have to do to meditate the Word is take a verse or small passage of Scripture and just
say it over and over softly to yourself. I recommend meditating along lines of your felt needs
e.g. if you really need healing, meditate healing verses. If you need finances, meditate supply
verses. Faith is the substance of things hoped for (Hebrews 11:1). So meditate what you hope
for. The word “substance” used in Hebrews 11:1 means “the real nature” of the thing you
hope for. It is the spiritual reality of the thing. This means that, for instance, if you need
healing in your physical body, the real nature of your healing already exists in the spiritual
realm. In other words, God has already healed you and this healing exists in the glory.
Faith is the heavenly materiality of your healing. When you speak healing verses into your
spirit, you are depositing the real nature of healing in your spirit, just as you would put food in
your belly. Your body knows how to take steak and potatoes and turn it into energy for your
body. Likewise, your spirit knows how to take the meditated Word and turn it into manifested
healing. Your job isn’t to extract the nutrients, minerals and vitamins from food by a
conscious process; it is just to eat the food! Equally, your job isn’t to manufacture healing; it
is just to meditate the healing Word!
PONDERING THE WORD
Although Bible meditation is largely about speaking the Word, you must also engage your
mind too. This might sound contradictory since I said that meditating Scripture is about
bypassing the mind; however, the Christian life is lived in the paradox between two seemingly
opposite views. The truth is that meditating God’s Word is primarily a spiritual exercise. It is
intended to build up the spirit man. The tremendous byproduct of this, however, is that it
renews your mind in the process! Your mind must be governed by your spirit man.
At some stage in the process, it is vital to get your mind in on it. This is called pondering the
Word. One meaning of “meditate” is to ponder. This means think things through over and
over. In Luke chapter 2, the angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds in a field and told them
to go and worship the baby Jesus. He told the shepherds that this baby was the Messiah. When
the shepherds came and worshipped Jesus, recounting what the angel told them, the Bible
says in Luke 2:19 that Mary “kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.” This word
“kept” means to keep in mind and the word “pondering” is the Greek word sumballo which
literally means to toss over and over. Again, the word sumballo has a vocal context and the
inference is that Mary muttered these sayings over and over.
Yet it is clear that Mary thought about these sayings in the years that followed. Our
understanding of “meditate” is to think, imagine or picture. Although that is not the primary
meaning of meditation from a Bible viewpoint, nonetheless these things are involved. You
must engage with Scripture mentally too, not just recite verses parrot-fashion. Your mind
must be focussed on God’s Word.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in
thee.
ISAIAH 26:3
12
“Perfect peace” in Hebrew is shalom shalom i.e. double peace. The word for “mind” is
yetster which can be translated “imagination”. It has the meaning of to mold into a form or
conceive an image. In other words, the mind fixed on God and His Word will be shaped and
molded to conform to His image. This man will be kept in double peace. Biblically, peace is a
state of perfection, wholeness and completion. It means “nothing broken, nothing missing”.
We could paraphrase Isaiah 26:3 and say that the man who keeps his mind and imagination
fixed on God and His Word will become perfect, conforming exactly to the likeness of what
he is looking at. You become what you behold. This is why dogs look like their owners. In
their mind’s eye they have an image of their master. Eventually they conform to that image.
You can travel all over the world and you will see this. I have heard it said that many
Buddhists who sit for long hours worshipping a Buddha figure end up looking like it. It is
spiritual law. You conform to that which you hold in your imagination.
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his
Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
ROMANS 8:29
This is done by Bible meditation. If you meditate the Word, you will be morphed into a
replica of Jesus. “Conformed” is summorphos in the Greek which is derived from morphe. As
you ingest His Word into your spirit and ponder it in your mind, the LIFE that is in that Word
will morph you into His likeness. “Image” is the Greek word eikon from which we get the
word icon. Worshipping an icon is no good; that won’t conform you to His image. His image
is in the Word! So get the Word into your mouth, spirit and mind. Then you will be like Him.
Here are the Heritage Bible’s translations of Isaiah 26:3 and Romans 8:29, with some notes
on Isaiah 26:3:-
You will guard him in peace, peace, who has been formed to take hold of you because he
trusts you.
ISAIAH 26:3 Heritage Bible
26:3 formed, yetser, to form, or that which is formed; to take hold of, camak; to take hold of is the only
translation that fits in all 49 places where camak is used. The word mind is not in this sentence, as
translated by KJV. Yetser is the past participle used as a noun. The key to the meaning of yetser in Isa 26:3. It is found in Gen 2:7, and Psa 103:14. The verb is yatsar. Gen 2:7, And Jehovah God formed the
man from the dust of the soil, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became
a living soul. Psa 103:14, Because he knows by seeing our form; he remembers that we are dust. Gen 2:7 says clearly that God formed man out of the dust of the soil - He formed him from the dust. The
Psalmist says, he knows by seeing our form; he remembers that we are dust. Man is a formed man,
formed out of the dust of the soil. Man was formed from the dust and received a human spirit that makes
him above the animals, but still a dependent creature who can have no peace unless he takes hold upon
Jehovah God. God will guard him in peace, peace - for one simple reason - because the man formed out
of the dust takes hold of, that is, trusts Jehovah God. Because whom he foreknew, he also predestinated to be shaped like the image of his Son, into his
being the firstborn among many brothers. ROMANS 8:29 Heritage Bible

Revelation knowledge is knowledge direct from the spirit. It is revealed knowledge, not
learned knowledge. You are meditating Scripture and all of a sudden BLAM! You see
something you never saw before. You have insight you never had before. It is like someone
pulled back a curtain and showed you a whole universe you didn’t know existed. The Word
opens up to you in a way it never has before. You realize that up till now your knowledge of
the Word has been mental. It has come through teachers or through studying. But revealed
knowledge shows you what you have suspected for a long time, that there are hidden layers
and depths in God’s Word beyond mortal ken. We see this with the Apostle Peter:-
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying,
Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others,
Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and
blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church;
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall
be loosed in heaven.
MATTHEW 16:13-19
Flesh and blood did not reveal who Jesus was to Peter. It was an apocalypse, an unveiling. It
was spiritual knowledge. God the Father, who is Spirit, revealed it to Peter’s spirit. Revealed
knowledge is always an unveiling of spiritual realities. It is a taking away of natural or carnal
things to reveal the underlying spiritual realities underneath. In 2 Corinthians 4:18, Paul
speaks of looking “not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.”
How can you look at things you can’t see i.e. invisible things? Clearly, you need eyes that see
beyond the visible. This means spiritual eyes. Your spirit man sees things your physical eyes
cannot. This is revelation knowledge.
Jesus says here in verse 18: “Upon this rock I will build my church.” Upon what rock -
Peter, which means “a small piece of rock”? No! He means He will build the church upon the
rock of revelation knowledge, particularly the knowledge that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
the Living God. Revelation knowledge is God’s greatest gift to man. Without it, we could not
know who Jesus is. Of course, it is clearly a function of the Holy Spirit. He is the One who
leads us into all truth.
Meditating the Word of God is your part in walking in revelation knowledge. If you will take
the time to meditate Scripture, the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal the Word to your spirit
man. Sometimes you will know things on the inside about God’s Word before you can even
articulate what you know. This is because the Holy Spirit communicates with your spirit man,
not your mind. Your spirit then passes on this information to your mind. Your spirit is the
knower, your mind is the thinker. What the spirit knows, it passes on to the mind so that the
14
mind can have understanding of spiritual reality. Your mind must always be subject to your
spirit because the spirit knows more than the mind ( see 1 John 2:20).
Did you know that when you speak God’s Word over and over in meditation, it will begin to
talk with you?
My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou
awakest, it shall talk with thee.
PROVERBS 6:20-22
It is great to speak the Word but it is even more glorious when that Word begins to speak in
you and to you! Interestingly, the word “talk” in verse 22 is a Hebrew word for “meditate”
and the Literal Translation says “it will meditate with you.” The Heritage Bible says the
commandments “will cause you to ponder” in verse 22. When you plant the Word in your
heart by meditation, it begins to speak inside you. This is a wonderful experience and reality.
The question may be asked, “If we have the Holy Spirit in us, why is it necessary to
meditate?” There is an aspect of our relationship with the Lord that He requires us to activate,
in a sense, the indwelling Spirit. You cannot have the Holy Spirit in you and just say and do
anything you want, then expect to be a spiritual giant. Man is a speaking spirit. You must
speak the Word. The Holy Spirit acts on the Word of God that comes out of your mouth. He
acts on faith. If your words are full of faith, He will perform what you are saying.
In Genesis chapter 1, the Spirit of God was brooding, or incubating, over the face of the
waters. He was present. Yet it was only when God began to say, “Let there be…!” that
creation began. The Holy Spirit acts on the spoken Word. This is why meditation is so
necessary. Some read the Bible for years; some study it diligently. But it is those who
meditate who see the Lord move in mighty power. This is because they put God’s Word in
their mouths. God designed you to speak His Word. You were created for that very purpose.
Read Psalm 119. It is the treatise of an addict. Here is a man obsessed with speaking God’s
Word. He knows more than those teaching him (Psalm 119:99). Why is this? He meditates the
Word! He is walking in revelation knowledge.
The portal to the glory has been opened for this man and can be for you if you will but take
the time to speak the Word over and over.
PERSONALIZE THE WORD
A vital part of Bible meditation is confessing or affirming the Word. This means you must
personalize it. It must be personal to you. You must agree with God said. Let me show you an
example:
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
PHILIPPIANS 4:19 NKJV
15
To meditate this verse you would repeat it over and over. However, you want to make this
verse personal to you. You want to appropriate it. Therefore, you would make affirmations
about it. Here are some examples:
“God supplies all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
“Every need of mine is met for God is my Source of supply now and always.”
“ God is my Supplier; whatever I need He lavishly supplies.”
“My needs are met from his riches in glory. My level of supply is unlimited.”
“The unlimited supply of God pours into my life all the time.”
You see, when you begin to speak and ponder this verse, you become aware of the glorious
truth that the supply of God is on the level of His unlimited riches in glory. The nature of God
is superabundance. God is infinitely wealthier than the billionaires of earth. So, if you need
50p, He will give you £50 million. If you need lunch, He will give you 500 supermarkets. If
you need a lift home, He will give you a fleet of Rolls Royces. Meditating the Word will give
you such a revelation of God.
You must appropriate the promises of God. They must become yours. It is great to meditate
upon the Word of God but it must become your possession. Whatever you possess by faith is
yours. Faith comes by hearing the Word over and over. You can have anything you want that
God has promised you, if you will develop the faith for it. You do this by meditating the
Word. An essential part of this is affirming what you are meditating is yours.
The spirit of man is a production center. You can produce your desired future if you will
extract heavenly substance from the Word of God and bring it into manifestation. This
process is called meditating the Word.
MEDITATING THE NAME
Great benefit comes from meditating the Divine Name of YHWH (or Jehovah in English).
This Name in itself is worthy of many hours of meditation. Speaking the Name over and over
makes manifest the glory of the Divine Presence.
The Name brings to the speaker all that He is. The great I AM becomes Himself in you as
you speak His wonderful Name. As you say “YHWH-Yireh (YHWH my Provider)”, then He
becomes your very provision. As you speak “Jehovah-Rapha (Jehovah is my Healer)”, then
healing shows up in your body. What He is, you are. This is the secret of the Name. The
Name means “I Am becoming Myself in you” or “I Am cloning Myself in you”. As you put
His Name on your lips, whatever He is becomes your reality. The Name Jesus means
“YHWH saves”. As you call upon that Name Jesus, YHWH saves you from all temporal harm
and eternal damnation.
If you want to know the Lord, you must call upon His Name. He will come and fellowship
with you. When you speak or mutter that Name, you actually invoke His Presence. The
meaning of “calling upon the Name” is to invoke Him. Just as occultists invoke the presence
of nefarious spirits, we invoke the Holy One. It is the occultists who are practising the
counterfeit. Calling upon the Name of YHWH has always been to actually invoke His
Presence. Solomon knew this back at the dedication of the Temple. When he prayed and
16
invoked the Name, the fire and the glory fell. YHWH Himself came and filled the house (see
2 Chronicles chapters 6 and 7).
The purpose of God has always been to fill His Temple. This was done in the Old Testament
by invoking His Name. Now we are in the New Testament and it is still the same. We are the
New Testament Temple of God. He will come and fill us as we invoke His Name. Therefore
that Name must be on our lips constantly. To meditate the Divine Name is to constantly
supercharge yourself with the very Presence of YHWH. As you speak the Name, satan flees
because you invoke the Holy One.
The more you speak the Name, the more you are transformed into His likeness. It is your
part of the Divine cloning project to put that Name in your mouth and keep it there.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
ROMANS 10:17
As you call upon and invoke His Name, you are saved. This is a quote from Joel 2:32 which
says that whosoever shall call upon the Name of YHWH shall be delivered. Here in Romans,
it means to call upon the Name of YHWH and His Son, Yeshua/Jesus. The Greek word for
“saved” is sozo. This means more than being saved from eternal punishment. It means to be
made whole and complete in every area of life. So, as you keep that Name in your mouth, you
are being made whole and complete as His Presence in you metamorphoses you into His very
likeness. You become more and more like Him. The change is His job; yours is to keep
speaking the Name.
His Name on your lips makes you a conqueror in life. Actually, you are more than a
conqueror because He is the One fighting your battles. Whatever His Name represents
becomes yours. If a poor waitress marries a multi-billionaire, she takes his name to be her
own. From that moment on, whatever his name represents, represents her! She isn’t who she
was anymore, another’s name has changed her life! She has joined with a man in one-flesh
union and taken a new name.
Of course, this is covenant language. “He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.”
We are joined to the Lord in covenant union and we have taken His Name. That Name is
changing us. We are no longer separate from Him but are one with Him. His Name on our lips
has the same authority as He has. A woman can sign cheques in her husband’s name.
Likewise, we can use the Name of the Lord to appropriate whatever we need.
It is a glorious truth that because we have His Name, whatever He is, we are. Go and
meditate that!
IN THE BEGINNING
In the beginning was the Word, we are told in John 1:1. The Word was with God and the
Word was God. This is referring to the Second Person of the Godhead, Jesus Christ. He is the
Word made flesh.
Everything began with a word from God. Creation sprung forth by the command of Jehovah.
Words are the vehicle for LIFE. Man was created in the image and likeness of God, which
means that man operates the God-system. Therefore, what we want to create in our lives must
17
begin with words. Speech is a Divine attribute. We know that angels have it and mankind has
it. Speech is a function of spirit-beings. You are a spirit-being. Plants and animals don’t have
speech in the sense of words and languages.
So whatever you wish to undertake, achieve or obtain, you must begin with words. Words
came from God. And the Second Person in the Godhead is the Word, who is God. It works
practically like this: You begin with words. The words come from God (The Bible) and as
you speak forth those words, they are God to you and your circumstances. This is what the
Master meant in John 6:63 when He said His words are spirit and life. He meant God’s very
Presence is in His Word. The Word is alive with God’s Life. When you speak the Word into
your heart, you are speaking God Himself into your heart. When you speak God’s Word to
your circumstances, you are releasing God Himself.
If you will begin your day with the Word and place it at the very beginning, you will frame
your world with the Word of God. Ferrar Fenton’s Translation brings out an interesting point
in Genesis 1:1 where it says in the KJV: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth.” According to Fenton, the Hebrew word translated “beginning” is plural. This word
means “headship” or “first”. Everything you begin ought to start with the Word. The Word of
God should be first in all your undertakings.
Physical reality came into existence because God released something in Him into a spoken
Word and what He said took form. You are no different. If you need healing, meditate
healing. If you need finances, meditate supply. If you need deliverance, meditate verses that
apply. The Word you speak consistently will become your reality.
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

CONFESSIONS ABOUT GOD’S WORD
I live by every word that comes out of God’s mouth. His Word does not depart from my lips but I meditate – speak and mutter – it day and night. I constantly speak God’s Word. I am addicted to God and His
Word. My life is built on God’s Word. Faith comes to me as I speak and hear the Word. His Word is life
to me. It pierces and divides my soul and spirit and even penetrates into my joints and marrow, bringing life to my body and blood. The Word of the Lord endureth forever and, as it is settled in heaven, it is
settled forever in my heart. I am ruled and governed by the Eternal Word of God. I prosper in whatever I
do because His Word is my meditation day and night. I hide the Word of God in my heart to repel sin.
