How to make your own- Harry
potter spell book cover. You can use this to cover any book you are reading
from or simply stick in a diary or bLank pages and
turn it into a spell book
Step 1. Cut out some cardboard, make it 2 inches
bigger on each side than the book you wish to cover
Step2. Use masking tape around the edge to make it
neat
Step 3. Get a stone or a piece of clay and shape it
like a pebble (this is going to be the monster eye) -
you can use a few stones if you want extra eyes,
glue it onto the front coverside of the book.
Step 4. Use kitchen or tissue paper to build up around
the eye- start to make it look like an eyelid. Cover
the whole cardboard in a thin layer of tissue.
This is so that the book looks textured like
material.
Mix a watery glue to spread all over the thin
tissue. all areas should be covered.
Wrap any tissue that hangs over the edge to the
inside cover and glue it down.
Step 5. Leave the tissue to dry- paint the eye in a
white for a base coat (let it dry) and then yellow. If
you have Acrylic paint, you can do just the yellow
Step 6. Mix brown paint and add some black to
darken it.
Mix some green paint and add some black to darken
it.
Start to paint all over your book using both shades
so it looks old and patchy. Do not leave any white
areas.
Paint a red line down your eye and a thin line in the
middle of the thicker red line.
You can use jem’s or foam to add scales and spots.
Leave everything to dry.
Step 7. Turn over the book and paint the inside in the
same way.
Step 8. Both side should be covered and now you
crease the book in the centre to form a spine
These are some examples that Year 4 children did
this week.
Remember you can just fold it over a book your
reading- perhaps with a little blue tack to hold it
on, or you can get a sketchbook, diary or line paged
book to glue in permanently.
