We are all raised and trained with a primary focus on our thinking brain, our ‘mind self’. We life in a world of concepts, ideas, methodologies, competences, … the wisdom of the knowing. We have our language and picture based mindset, the world of storytelling, powerpoint and spreadsheet. We have our ‘constructed’ reality in which we plan ahead in a lineair way. But in our organizations we often tend to forget the embodied self. Our body has an embodied mind that thinks and acts dierently. It is present and aware of our social relationships all of the time, 24/24, 7/7. Our body is the source of our awareness and intuition. Our body navigates through our relationships. It knows and understands things, but it just has a hard time telling that to your mind.

Our embodied or somatic mind is 6 times slower than our brain. And our brain will filter out and create stories about it later.

Trust, safety, purpose and belonging are the foundation for self-organized teams. But trust, safety, purpose and belonging speak the language of our body, not our thinking brain.

So in order to be successful in a fast changing world, where self-organized living systems are key to success, one has to integrate the wisdom of the body. This is “the next step in human consciousness” as Frederic Laloux mentioned in the subtitle of his famous book ‘Reinventing Organizations’.

But it is a process the can’t be managed, trained or imposed, it can only be invited by creating the proper context, a quality of being, a ‘holding space’.

A very powerful gateway to leverage this full potential of our body, both on an individual and collective level, is systemic or constellation work and the U process.
