How to Laser Target Buyers

Using Flex Targeting

When paying for advertisements on Facebook, you want to make sure you are targeting the ideal

customer—the person who is most passionate about the niche you are promoting. You want to

target people who are so passionate about the niche, they pull out their credit card and

purchase what you are selling.

Flex Targeting:

– Get your offer, what you are selling, in front of your ideal customer

– Narrow your audience down to people who share a highly customized combination of

interests, behaviors, and demographics

– Exclude particular demographics, interests, or behaviors

The goal is to get your offer in front of the right person. The biggest reason paid advertising does

not work is because of bad targeting.

Bad targeting results in:

– Higher ad costs

– Low sales

– No sales

Good targeting results in:

– Lower ad costs

– Higher sales

– Less stress ☺

To zero in on your audience and find the most passionate people within a market, you can use

flex targeting.

For example, suppose you sell a t-shirt for registered nurses that love to drink coffee. If you were

to add them both in the interest box like the example below...

This would serve your ads to the interest for "Registered nurse" either/or "Coffee."

If you look at the bottom of the Detailed Targeting section, you’ll see two additional targeting

options: Exclude People and Narrow Audience. This is where flex targeting comes in.

When you click Narrow Audience, you are able to target people who match both interests.

Here is an example of flex targeting:

Instead of serving your ads to "Registered nurse" EITHER/OR "Coffee," you are now serving your

ads to "Registered nurse" AND "Coffee."

Here is a diagram to show you a visual concept of flex targeting. You will see you are targeting

the overlay between "Registered nurse" and "Coffee."

Your audience size is smaller because it is more targeted.

This is a revolutionary change that Facebook has updated in the Ads Manager.
