1. Start with a bean shape, which is like an oval with a dent on one side. Draw an oval inside.

2. Add rounded rectangles for feet and two oval shapes for flippers.

3. A beak and eyes finish it. Color the body black, with a white belly and orange neck markings.

Penguins

1. Start with this lumpy banana shape. Put an oval inside it.

2. Add rounded rectangles for feet and two oval shapes for flippers.

3. A beak and eyes finish it. Color the body black, with a white belly and orange neck markings.

1. Start with half of a teardrop shape, or a pointy half-oval. Add a smaller one inside it and toward the back.

2. A rounded half oval on top makes the head. A skinny oval shape in the front does the beak. The tail is a jagged W shape on its side.

3. Add legs, eyes, and color! Use white, gray, and yellow. Seagulls are white-bodied birds with grey wings and dark tails. Try orange or yellow for feet.

Seagulls

1. Start with an oval. Add a W-shaped tail on the back.

2. Two sock shapes, one facing forward and one backward make the wings.

3. A simple oval makes a beak, and two circles finish the eyes. Color white, grey, and yellow.

1. Start with a large teardrop.

2. Add a smaller, pointier one on top of it. Then add a skinny triangle poking out and down to the side.

3. Add an oval for the head and an oval for the eye.

4. The beak is a curved banana shape with a figure-8 above it for the nose holes. Hooked toes show off the feet curled up close to the body.

Parakeets

5. These birds look great in light blues, bright yellows, and lime greens. You can be creative! The beaks and feet are usually pinkish.

1. Eggs come in an amazing variety of colors and sizes. Generally, the larger the bird, the bigger the egg. Blues, greens, tans, and browns are the most common colors. Experiment with different sizes and some spots.

Eggs & NESTs

3. Add 3-5 eggs in the center of the nest. Add more squiggles if the nest doesn’t seem full enough.

4. Nests are usually tan or brown, but they can be green if the grasses are fresh. Put any color of eggs you want in there. Play around with the thickness of the different lines around the nest.

1. Start with an oval inside an oval. 2. Add squiggly lines all around the bowl of the nest.

1. Start with a tilted heart shape.

2. Add the circles for the eye, the triangle beak, and the wavy wing.

Chicks & Ducklings

3. These look best in white and yellow! Make them fuzzy, too!

1. Start with a teardrop and a circle.

2. Add the wavy wing shape and the pointed flipper feet.

3. Finish with eyes and beak. Color them yellow with orange feet and beaks. Try open and closed beaks.

1. Start with an oval inside another larger oval that comes to a slight point on the bottom.

2. Copy the same shape, but in reflection. It should create a divided teardrop shape.

3. Use a diamond for the nose and have parts of ovals sticking out on the sides for wings.

OWL

4. Add trapezoid shapes on the bottom for legs. Finish with the taloned feet.

5. Owls usually have patches of grey, brown, and white to help them blend in. You can also add feather horns at the top of the head. Eyes are usually yellow, with dark pupils.

Cardinals & Blue Jays

1. Start with a tilted half oval with another inside it.

2. Add the circle for the head with a triangle crest. Then add the rectangular shape for the tail.

4. Cardinals are red with darker wings and tails. The masks on their faces are black.

3. Finish with the triangle beak, the circles for the eye, and the feet.

1. Start with a tilted half oval with another inside it.

2. Add the circle for the head with a triangle crest. Then add the rectangular shape sfor the tail.

4. Blue Jays are white-bodied with blue heads, wings, and tails. The masks on their faces are white. Their beaks are black.

3. Finish with the triangle beak, the oval face mask, the circle for the eye, and the feet.

4. The legs are bent rectangles with toes at the end. The beak is two triangles.

Crows & Blackbirds

1. Start with a large teardrop with a rounded rectangle on top.

2. Add two pointed teardrops for the wings. One you can’t see very much.

3. Add the tail and the eye.

5. Crows are almost entirely black. They do have a bluish tint on their wings and tails though.

Blackbirds are smaller and slimmer. They have brighter eyes. They have a whitish shine on their feathers instead. Some even have red patches on their wings.

1. Start with a flattened oval. 2. Add a triangle tail. The neck and head look a lot like a letter S.

Flamingoes

3. Darken the tip of the beak. Add a bean-shaped mask on the face and a dot for an eye.

5. Flamingoes are pinkish orange throughout. They have lighter legs, with darker knees and feet. They have a black beak and a white spot on their faces.

4. The legs are almost rectangles. They have knobby knees and webbed feet.

Ostriches & Emus

1. Start with a flattened oval. Add another smaller oval at the back for the tail fan.

2. Add a rounded triangle for a wing, and another smaller triangle to start the neck.

3. Finish the neck with an S-shape that has a triangular end for a head. Add an eye and a mouth line.

5. Ostriches have dark brown feathers, except on their tails and wings, where the tips are white. Their neck, head, and legs are pink.

4. The legs are almost rectangles. They have knobby knees and wide feet.

To make an Emu, change the colors to light brown. Make the legs and neck light grey instead of pink. Then add a dark beak.
