• Type in the name of your new style. Let’s assume this is for the Research Practicum class and you are required to have 3 levels of headings in your document as well as your table of contents.

• We will call our styles RPHeading1, RPHeading2 and RPHeading3.

• Select the options that you want for your new style.

o For our

RPHeading1 style, we will use the following: Times New Roman 12 pt font, double spacing, bold text and center aligned text.

Note: You can name your styles whatever you want, but my suggestion is to create styles that you will use for multiple classes and name them accordingly, or create styles and a template for specific classes naming your styles accordingly.

• Your new style will now appear in the style list

Using the steps above, create new styles for RPHeading2 and RPHeading3.

• RPHeading2 should be based on RPHeading1, and use left justification.

• RPHeading3 should be based on RPHeading2

o We will not making any changes other than the name of the style.

o We are creating this style for purposes of the table of contents.

Note: Your table of contents will appear if you have already typed text and applied your styles. On the following pages, you will see an example of the table of contents as well as the styles applied within the document. Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac does not support some features in Office 2010. It may be necessary to take additional steps (creating Table of Contents Fields) to have a tertiary heading show in the table of contents if it is inline with text. See page 12 for those instructions.

CHAPTER ONE: The Problem and Its Setting

Introduction

Online courses in high schools are gaining in popularity and use. Approximately

twenty five percent of high schools have some type of distance learning component as a

supplement to regular course offerings (Mupinga, 2005). Due to increasing enrollment,

there is projected to be increased offerings of advanced placement courses (Mupinga,

2005).

Statement of the Problem

In Prince George’s County, Maryland, there is an increasing enrollment of

students in advanced placement courses due to former Superintendent of Schools John

Deasy’s Apple 8 program. This program mandates that every high school in the county

should have a minimum of eight advanced placement courses offered.

Definition of Terms

In order to minimize the misinterpretation of jargon associated with educational

technology and biometric technology a list of terms and concepts will be defined in this

section. This list of terms and concepts are essential to the understanding and accurate

perception of common terms that have multiple connotations or meanings in the fields of

education and information assurance.

want to show in the toc.
