How to create a Tumblr blog

In this document we describe how to set up and create a Tumblr blog.

Createablog!

1. Go to http://tumblr.com

On the middle of the page is the option to ‘Get Started’. Click on this.

2. Provide an email address, password, and the username you want to go by. The username will also be the domain name of your tumblr.

3. Tumblr will then ask you to confirm your age and that you have read their terms of service. Then to confirm that you are not a robot or bot.

4. Tumblr will then take you to your Dashboard. This is where you can view a stream of content from other accounts that you are following, in a similar style to Twitter. This is also where you create your own content.

5. As you navigate around the page tumblr will pop-up with tips and explanations of the various buttons and tools.

6. Now that you have a tumblr blog, you can choose to change the title, colours, header image, and visual style. When this pops-up click on the ‘Edit appearance’ button.

7. Choose a Theme for your blog by clicking on the ‘Browse themes’ text on the right of the screen underneath the logo image currently used for your blog.

8. This column will then display a number of themes to choose from, for more themes go to the very bottom of the column and click on the text ‘Search waaay more themes’.

9. Click on a theme to see how it looks, and when ready click on the ‘Install’ button at the top of the page.

10. After installing a theme, to go back in for further editing and to add your own images, click on the ‘Edit theme’ button on the top right corner of the page. This will take you back to the editing bar where you can add the title, a description, upload a header images, upload your avatar image, and a bunch more.
