Train to become a Virtual

Teacher Facilitator and secure

your future online.

The Growth of m-learning

In 2011 many reports supported the growth of

mobile learning as a major driver for the growth of

the e-learning market.

The driver is not one of simple learning

enhancement and support driven by a

requirement for portability and availability made

possible by smart phones and tablet devices, but

also one of learning “additionality”. The PC will still

remain key to many learners for some years to

come.

We are particularly taken with the concept of

second screen learning, in that learners will use

mobile devices i-pads, smart phones etc… in

conjunction with other forms of learning whilst on

the move.

We do not see mobile learning as a straight

replacement to existing e-learning genres, but to

use mobile learning in appropriate additional ways

to enhance the learning mix.

Growth of the e-learning market

The market for e-learning just keeps growing and

growing, according to research and sales figures.

A survey by Ambient Insight Research has showed

that the worldwide market for e-learning products

was $32.1 billion (£20.5 billion) in 2010 and is

expected to rise to $49.9 billion by 2015

Growth of the Virtual Classroom

E-learning has long been recognised as offering

considerable advantages over conventional

classroom-based training when it comes to

training employees and management quickly,

efficiently and conveniently.

"There are online courses that offer recognised

and accredited qualifications in everything from

human resource management and marketing to

project management and software applications

development."

Training through online learning is now widely

available on the internet from flower arranging

and PowerPoint presentations to health and

safety.

Why the new kind of online Virtual Tutor

Facilitator

If you are reading this document, it is because you

have responded to our advert. There is an

opportunity for you to train and become an

independent Virtual Tutor Facilitator and once you

qualify we will send you students and pay you for

your services. Carry on reading to find out more

about this special opportunity and new online role.

The real promise of online education, experts say,

is providing learning experiences that are more

tailored to individual students than is possible in

classrooms. That enables more “learning by

doing,” which many students find more engaging

and useful.

To teach using 21st Century pedagogy, AVPT

educators must be student centric.

Our curricula and assessments are inclusive,

interdisciplinary and contextual; and based on real

world examples.

The students must be a key participants in the

assessment process, intimate in it from start to

finish, from establishing purpose and criteria, to

assessing and moderating.

AVPT will establish a e-safe environment for

students to collaborate in but also to discuss,

reflect and provide and receive feedback. We will

make use of collaborative and project based

learning, using enabling tools and technologies to

facilitate this.

We will help develop, in students, key fluencies

and make use of higher order thinking skills. Our

tasks, curricula, assessments and learning activities

have be designed to build on the Lower Order

Thinking Skills and to develop Higher Order

Thinking Skills.

We will also incorporate different learning styles

which will also take into consideration student

who prefer to still learn in a traditional classroom

Softskills and the role of the Virtual Teacher

Facilitator.

The development of Soft Skills. Soft skills is a sociological term relating to a person's "EQ" (Emotional Intelligence Quotient), the cluster of personality traits, social graces, communication, language, personal habits, friendliness, and optimism that characterise relationships with other people] Soft skills complement hard skills (part of a person's IQ), which are the occupational requirements of a job and many other activities. Soft skills are personal attributes that enhance an individual's interactions, job performance and career prospects. Unlike hard skills, which are about a person's skill set and ability to perform a certain type of task or activity, soft skills relate to a person's ability to interact effectively with co-workers and customers and are broadly applicable both in and outside the workplace. A person's soft skill EQ is an important part of their individual contribution to the success of an organisation.

The seven soft skills. Based on the research findings obtained, seven soft

skills have been identified and chosen to be implemented in all institutions of higher learning here. They are:

o Commercial Skills

o Thinking skills and Problem solving skills.

o Team work force

o Life-long learning and Information Management

o Entrepreneur skill

o Ethics, moral and professionalism

o Leadership Skills

Why are soft skills important? It can be observed that education is an essential tool for achieving sustainability. We all realise that the current economic development trends are not sustainable and that public awareness, education and training are the key elements to move our society towards sustainability. Only a quality future human capital can envision development of its nation to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Therefore, the inculcation of soft skills among the students will be two prongs, to produce quality human capital and to develop their knowledge, understanding, values and skills as well.

Role of a Virtual Teacher Facilitators. The Latin root of “facilitate” is, “to enable, to make easy.” Facilitation is a helping role. Facilitation is a way of providing leadership without taking the reins. Focus on facilitating life-long learning. This will enable individuals to develop the ability to accumulate as much knowledge and skills over the years. The ability to manage information well. To help an individual to adopt the best practices and to make sound decisions. This requires the individual and the Virtual Teacher Facilitator to develop their convergent and divergent thinking.

Convergent/Divergent Thinkers. Convergent Thinkers tend to be attracted by tidy “correct”

answers. Divergent Thinkers are attracted by ambiguity and by a range of possibilities. For example a person who has developed both their convergent and divergent thinking may have first concluded several possible reasons to a person’s ability to spell or use grammar according to the English language. A Virtual Teacher Facilitators role would be to help encourage extreme convergers and divergers to come back from the brink! This will help develop their communication skills and thinking ability.

Facilitating Thinking. This skill includes the ability to help motivate critically, creatively, innovatively and analytically thinking using both convergent and divergent thinking. It also involves the ability to apply knowledge and understanding to new and different problems as well. For ESD (Education for sustainable development) to be successful, it must give people practical skills that will enable them to continue learning after they have finished studying, to have a sustainable livelihood and to live sustainable lives. The critical thinking

skills, skills to organise and interpret data

and information, skills to formulate

questions and the ability to analyse issues

that confront communities are greatly

addressed in the reorientation of

intermediate education in ESD.

Facilitating E-learning. E-learning is increasingly being utilised by students who may not want to go to traditional brick and mortar schools due to severe allergies, learning deficiencies or other medical or even religious issues, fear of school violence and school bullying, low self-esteem or they just cannot get the time off work. Cyber schools create a safe haven for students to receive a quality education while almost completely avoiding these common problems. Cyber e-learning schools also often are not limited by location, income level or class size in the way brick and mortar schools are.

Characteristics of online Virtual Teacher Facilitator. Online teacher facilitator is the process of tutoring in an online, virtual environment or networked

environment in which teachers and learners are separated by time and space. Online teacher facilitator, as a reflection of the diversity of the wider internet, communities, learning styles, is practiced using many different approaches. The distinctions are in online content and interface, as well as in facilitating and tutor-training methodologies.

Flexible & Blended Learning. Flexible Learning is a set of educational philosophies and systems that we adhere to and is in perpetual development. Flexible learning is concerned with providing learners with increased choice (studying English, maths or assertion skills and facilitating learning according to the subject they have chosen), convenience, and personalisation to suit the learner without cyber learning intimidation. In particular, flexible learning provides learners with choices about where, when, and how learning occurs. One clear advantage of blended learning in education is its connection with differentiated instruction. Differentiated instruction involves “custom-designing instruction based on student needs.” In differentiated instruction, educators look at students’ learning styles, interests, and abilities. Once these factors have been determined, educators decide which type of content and communication style, learning activities, products, and learning environments will best serve those individual students’ needs.

Instructors versus Virtual Teacher Facilitator. What is the difference between an instructor and a facilitator? One big difference is that facilitators are content neutral but a process advocate. You don’t take sides, and you don’t have a stake in the outcome. You are an outsider or third party to the issues involved. However, you are there to help individuals and groups work through a process—a process that is fair, inclusive, and provides a space for every member of the group to participate fully. The facilitator encourages full participation. One problem is that people don’t say what they are thinking. It’s hard to take risks and it is particularly hard when they expect the group response to be hostile or dismissive. Comments

like “Hurry up, we’re running out of time,” or, “Impossible, won’t work, no way,” or “your grammar is not right” discourages people from saying or writing what they are thinking. To protect themselves, people constantly edit their thinking which is then translated into them editing their writing before they speak or type. The virtual voice of the participant is greatly enhanced in the world of online content which is delivered mainly in the form of typed text. An instructor focused on convergent thinking can discourage full participation of a student online interaction.

Mobile Learning Tools and Phrases

There are a variety of Mobile Devices to choose from that can be used for Mobile Learning. Some of the more popular ones include: Blackberry, Notebook, Palm Pilot, Apple iPhone, Galaxy Tablet, Apple ipad, Apple iPod Touch, and many other up and coming tablets and notebooks. The terminology for systems which integrate and manage computer-based learning has changed over the years. Terms which are useful in searching for earlier materials include:

"Computer Assisted Instruction" (CAI)

"Computer Based Training" (CBT)

"Computer Managed Instruction" (CMI)

"Course Management System" (CMS)

"Integrated Learning Systems" (ILS)

"Interactive Multimedia Instruction" (IMI)

"Learning Management System" (LMS)

"Technology Based Learning" (TBL)

"Technology Enhanced Learning" (TEL)

"Web Based Training" (WBT)

" On Demand Training" (ODT)
