But I Haven’t Been Punched In
The Face?
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
#1 Don’t Have A Negative Attitude
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
We all have something to
complain about at times and
it’s okay to release some
tension and protest your
feelings once in awhile.
Just know this…
Positive Attracts Positive in
everything you do. A negative
or poor attitude repels and
will often receive a similar
negative response from
others making you punch
prone.

#2 Don’t Talk About Yourself All The Time (or even most of the time)
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
How Did You Feel?
Likely Like Running Away
It’s not that people don’t care
about you. They just care about
themselves more. A lot more.
Be sure to apportion your
conversations accordingly.
About 70% them, 30% you is
safe and will show you care,
build rapport, trust and make you
more appealing to be around.
#3 Don’t Interrupt
Interrupting when someone
else is talking sends a
message that what you
have to say is more
important than what they
have to say.
Never good for healthy,
harmonious relationships.
Those who frequently
interrupt are considered
very punch-worthy.

#4 Don’t Look At Your Watch or Your Phone
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
Looking at your watch or
your phone while
interacting with someone
face-to-face implies that
you have somewhere else
to be or something better
to do other than focusing
on them at the time.
Especially important if you
regularly interact with
customers. They may not
slug you but they will have
no problem leaving you.
(Subtle reference to those
punch-worthy lads and ladies)
#5 Don’t Say “Like” All The Time (or over-frequently)
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
Doesn’t it like drive you like
insane when people like say
“like” constantly instead of
like speaking like a normal
like human-being?
ME TOO
Stop the insanity, appear
educated, avoid pummeling.
Use “like” appropriately.
That would be like
awesome.
This amusing ad is fake but the
subject matter is all too real
for many among us
#6 Don’t One Up The Other Person With Your Tale Of Superior Woe
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
Like Plato said, everyone is
fighting a hard battle with
their own share of struggles
and challenges.
They don’t need to shoulder
your burden as well.
Practice Empathy.
Demonstrate Personal Care
& Concern
Save Face
#6 Don’t One Up The Other Person With Your Tale Of Superior Woe
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
Actual Punch-Worthy Interaction
horrifyingly witnessed…
70 or so yr old woman slowly
moseys up to the customer
service counter and says “I was
hoping to get here sooner but
I’ve been in the hospital”.
Service rep responds,
“Hospital? I hate hospitals, I was
in there for a serious stomach
issue recently… they almost
killed me!”
#7 Do Acknowledge Others Good Deeds
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
It is human nature to respond
positively to expressed
appreciation and praise for
good deeds or a job well done.
Appropriately executed,
recognition reinforces proper
behaviors and strengthens the
personal relationship.
When good deeds go
unnoticed, people feel like you
don’t care; undermining proper
behaviors, weakening the
relationship, and promoting
thoughts of punching you.
#8 Don’t Attack The Person
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
It is extremely rare for different
people to share the same
viewpoints and agree on
everything.
Too often those with poor
social skills will commit a
personal assassination,
attacking the messenger when
they don’t agree with the
message.
Remember, it’s not personal
and nothing productive has
ever resulted from this punch-
worthy behavior.
#9 Don’t Wear Out Your Smarty-Pants
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
It is good to be smart but we all
know that “special someone”
that over does it and knows
everything about everything.
They’re quick to “enhance”
your thoughts with their special
brand of facts and figures mere
mortals are seldom aware of.
They typically mean well but
come across as condescending
and belittling.
#10 Don’t Talk Negatively About Others Behind Their Back
HOW TO AVOID BEING PUNCHED IN THE FACE
If someone was all nice and
cozy to your face and then went
and talked negatively behind
your back, how would you feel?
According to a 2011 study
published in the European
Journal of Social Psychology,
people are seen as less likeable
and less trustworthy when they
gossip about others.
Avoid a black eye: Praise in
public. Construct your criticism
in private.
