Who is Archie?

Archie is an archiver for FTP sites created in 1989 used to index the

Internet. It was later on closed down to outside access due to the

tremendous amount of traffic going into Canada from the United States.

VERONICA and JUGHEAD

Peter Deutsch, developer of the Archie coined the name to shorten

the word "Archiver"> he detested the creation of VERONICA and JUGHEAD, both indexing software, thinking that the name ARCHIE was derived from

the comic strip.

How fast was the internet?

Internet connection was slow during its early start. It would usually take 20 minutes for a single page to load. One can actually go on a coffee break and return with their screen still loading.

Where the Internet is Headed

Last year, January 2015, an average of 3 hours is spent on the internet via a PC

or tablet. Two hours on the other hand is used up by social media whether on a PC or a mobile device. In 2016 this data is expected to increase as well as the

number of internet users around the world, 3.4 billion users as predicted.

The whole internet world will achieve a total of 3 trillion

Wi-Fi internet access will also grow this year and half of the internet traffic predicted this year will come from these Wi-Fi connections.

A total of 1.2 million video minutes will become accessible to internet users and

would travel the internet every second this year.

A total of 18.9 billion network connections will be achieved, with 2.5 connections for each person a far cry from last 2011’s record of 10.3 billion.
